The Australian Open will be here again shortly from the 17th January - 30th January 2011. I assume that most of the top players will be here in Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and many other top players. I am hoping Rafael will win here!!!

Top 100 players are required to play all slam events. Unless they have an injury, they have to play.

Thats the reason I said assume meaning injury. I cant wait until the event is here. My favourite player until Rafa won the 2009 Australian Open was Haas. I doubt he will come because he is getting married and hes fiancee is pregnant!!! I hope he comes I really do. As for the others I hope they come next year too!!! I like the other veterans too but they might think why come to get beaten first round!!!

Same here.

I havent been in a few years. Can someone please post about the new facilities at Melbourne Park??? They really good- wheres the best spot to go if you're tired of walking around the courts.... and yeah is there plenty of room on the new oval + big screen.

Re: 2011 Australian Open!!

I've got day 4 tickets for centre court, considering its the second day of round 2 we're hoping to either Hewitt or Stosur (I've never seen a top drawing aussie at AO). I might go day 1 or 2 if it isn't hot as well.

Re: 2011 Australian Open!!

Got Rod Laver 2 days, hisense one and a bunch of ground passes. Should be good, to be honest though I prefer the ground passes on a good day wandering around taking in the atmosphere.

Re: 2011 Australian Open!!

For the first time in years, haven't got a series tickets, usually i go 4 days in Hinsense, and then maybe another 4 in RLA. Might actually just get ground passes for the first few days and got to a couple of the later RLA sessions in the 2nd week as well. There always room in hisnese so if worst comes to worst, can also upgrade if it is going to be a hot day or rainy day

Re: 2011 Australian Open!!

Will tennis australia be stupid enough not to allow foxtel to cover the open this year. I wonder if they have learn't from their massive mistakes

I'm sure the massive money they get from Seven is not a massive mistake. Doesn't actually have much to do with TA, more with seven and Fox having an agreement.

Re: 2011 Australian Open!!

I really wanna check out Roddick. Think he'll get through this year?

Re: 2011 Australian Open!!

In terms of what round? I think he is a chance to get to the quarters then it becomes difficult, you have the top 4 who are clearly better, then the returning Del Potro on a surface that should suit him and there always is a surprise packet. I have tipped him all things being equal to get eliminated in the quarters.

The day the series packages were released, I jumped on as soon as they were available. Took hours to find a decent seat for 4 straight days, eventually I settled on a reasonable seat for Mon-Thurs. Lower section, directly behind the court. Would've liked to be further down, but it's passable.

When I couldn't find a decent seat I was tempted to just go the ground pass for the first week but I guess having the option to avoid the heat/wet is always a plus. I'm also going Friday and Saturday but haven't got a ticket yet, will probably just get a ticket on the day because as you said, there's always room in Hisense.

Yep, that's what I basically did for a few years, usually managed to get great seat, lower section, behind the court and usually a couple rows back from the players boxes. The rows start from O or P or something like that. Great view at a world class stadium that i found myself not using too much as I was outside most of the time (apart from that first monday when we had the rain). I may regret that decision come January time...

Probably my biggest goal for 2011 AO is to get to see a Hewitt match live, I know his career is almost towards the end but as a massive fan watched many, many matches of his over the years, would like to see him live before he retires (although i hear he's playing Kooyong next year), seen practically everyone else, so that would mean a RLA ticket on one of the first two days/nights. Will it be possible to get one of those on the day or am I pushing my luck?

I'm the same. It's funny because I always end up stressing about which seat I get and yet realistically, I'm probably only in Hisense about 25% of the day, the outside courts are the place to be early. It's a nice fallback plan though, when I'm stuffed and can't be bothered walking all over the facility I just retire in Hisense. :p

Love seeing Hewitt matches in RLA, the atmosphere is great, with people actually supporting Lleyton! :p You could always just buy a single session ticket to RLA now for the Tuesday, very rare that they open with Hewitt on the Monday as they know the crowds will flock in on Day 1 regardless of the OOP. I'd say you'd be able to get a ticket, finding one single ticket shouldn't be impossible, I guess just be prepared to wait a while in line. The night sessions seem to be a bit harder. I once had a ticket to a Tuesday night I think, saw the OOP was Venus and Federer, gave it away. :D

BTW, does anyone know whethere there's been any progress made to the Melbourne Park site yet?

Yep, which is why I decided it to be against going for a series ticket, outside courts, MCA etc. are the place to be in the early rounds.

Tuesday for Lleyton for sure, just a amtter of the day or night session.

They have started but I don't think anything significant has happened, supposedly it won't affect running of the Open at all but isn't meant to be completed till 2015. Just had a re-look at the roof for MCA, it actually has changed my mind about it, looks like it will keep the imitacy of MCA even witht he roof on it, the first propsed roof for it looked awful.
