Today was the first official preseason training session for the Cats. Did anyone go to training (not sure if was even an open session?) or hear much about it?

There's a good picture of Brad (Movember!) Ottens on the Herald Sun website;

Looks like he's about to nail a wide receiver.

I am always astonished at the size of those hands. And i bet there is a select group of females who were astonished at the size of something else.

Good to see the boys back in training.

Wonder why Scarlo is on leave though, hopefully he's not injured?

Linga...lol...what are you doing son?

I hope the club puts some stuff up about when open training sessions are on...I'd love to go see how the boys are going.

He had surgery on the elbow he injured in the Saints game in the middle of the year.

I never heard what the final injury actually was - He played a few weeks in long sleeves to hide it but pretty much toughed out every game with it and still played well.

He's got scaffolding on there what, 2 months after post season surgery?

He tore the ligaments from the bone as I understand it. Click the "Source" under his photo for some info. Looks like he's progressing well.

The Cats yesterday held their first pre-season training session with senior players, although there were a few absentees. Veteran full-back Matthew Scarlett has been given extra time off, Mitch Duncan (hip) and James Podsiadly (hip) are on modified programs after surgery while Jimmy Bartel, a candidate for the captaincy should Ling be overlooked, had his left arm in a brace after elbow surgery but was able to take part in running drills.

Rebounding half-back David Wojcinski is on the mend from an ankle injury, hurt in Ireland during the international rules series, but exciting forward Travis Varcoe, who has required shoulder surgery since returning from Ireland, will be out for three months.

Look after Pods Scotty, we want him kicking goals in 2011!

(and all our other injured players too...seriously, love em all)

Premierships have got to start somewhere, and they started yesterday.
I can feel it, its pure detest for those who doubted us.
Buy a membership, surf the wave, mock those who stand in our way.

The Cats havent yet begone the era...

You did state your preference for men over women but the moderators wisely removed it.

After all this is a family friendly footy site.;)

You keep saying that but the main reason some of us hang about here is the - now forlorn :(- hope BDP will post some of his [strike]porno[/strike] [strike]racy[/strike] exclusive pictures.;) Where is BDP, BTW?

This might be a stupid question
What does happen on pre season training?
Is pure slog the body training? or some skills.
In the pics they had the footballs out so early.
Maybe the new conditioning coach has not arrived yet so they are having some fun.
Im really curious about pre season training and if other clubs spy on each other to get some kind of advantage.

These days training with the ball from an early stage is pretty mandatory even at local level, you have to able to dispose of the ball well even when you're fatigued, so it's not uncommon to be doing skills practice after heavy running sessions. Though i'd imagine at an AFL club training 5-6 days a week, they'd be training everything from running to weights and plenty of skill sessions from day 1. Everyone is assessed personally and depending on their strengths and weaknesses, given a program accordingly. The running early on is designed around obtaining an aerobic fitness base, before they move to a more anaerobic phase where their is shorter rest to work ratios, and their repeat sprint ability is harnessed. The second half of the pre-season is probably geared more toward the implementation of the general game plan and strategies.

I'm sure I heard that opposition clubs had already been spying on the Bomber's pre-season training recently, so I'm assuming that most clubs would have a bit of a look at one another!
