I am somewhat surprised i am saying this but i quite like the look of Dayle Garlett. He isn't exactly the type of player we need but i would not be upset if we drafted him.

Why are you surprised? The guy is a gun but off field issues are the worry though.

I'm hoping with Jake Stringer obviously not at full fitness after breaking his leg last year that he might slide quite a bit.

KPP's in every position would be nice. Prioritizing backmen, then forwards and then a project ruckman (Or trade up and get Grundy, wouldn't happen though :()

We would be looking to draft a key forward before we draft a key backman or ruck surely.

Mumford is around for a while to come and Pyke is coming along nicely while Seaby will be gone by year's end so I agree a young ruckman would be nice to have on the books but I wouldn't be using a high pick for it. History shows very few ruckmen who are drafted high become the superstars they are feted to be. Personally, I'd be scouring the VFL, SANFL for a young guy looking for a shot.

Nah our back stocks are way way too thin, Richards and LRT are both 30. As much as we might fight it their time is coming to an end, then we have Grundy who will hold us in good stead for a while to come. But after that there is nothing. Johnson is still a good couple of years off becoming a genuine KPD, unless we put White, Walsh or Spangher in the backline :( Unless the club looks at trading, we need to get some genuine young KPD's into the side while Richards is still around so they can develop.

As shit as our forward line is at the moment, it has far more depth than our backline.

Mitch Brown (WCE) would be a handy pickup if he was available and seeking a new opportunity. This is not for vonn's benefit, he's proving a fringe player in their side but I believe could play a role for us well

He'd have to be cheap 2nd rounder at best

I'm pretty much against the club drafting ruckmen at all.

While developing they essentially waste a spot that you could use to turn over 2 or 3 players in the same amount of time. They're also more hit and miss than other types of players. If a ruckman isn't up to standard then it's not like they can generally be used elsewhere, the same way you might put a sub-par midfielder on a flank or a wing, or a poor forward into the backline.

And given how speculative they are, other teams generally have a surplus on their list, and discards can be picked up rather cheaply every year. Look at Carlton... they recently offloaded Jacobs who is an excellent ruckman and will most likely do the same with Warnock at the end of this year. We managed to snag both Mumford and Seaby relatively cheap in the same way.

I believe our club have basically said they don't draft based on need, they just draft the best possible players available and trade to cover any deficiencies. I think it's a great approach, especially with the introduction of free agency.

If we want a developing ruckman I'd rather see us try and trade for one who's either been in the AFL system for a few years and has had limited chances or as you suggested... draft one from the VFL with a late pick. At least this way we're not wasting valuable list space waiting for a player to develop.

IF WE GOT MITCH BROWN FROM WCE I WOULD LEGIT GO TO EVERY HOME AND AWAY GAME EVER AND EVERY CLUB FUNCTION IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE EXISTENCE OF THE UNIVERSE I LOVE MITCH BROWN

Bit of a fan are we Vonn?

Anyway championships done and dusted and I am a huge fan of jaksch still, versatile KPP looks more suited to forward. Billings and Calvert also look good later options in the draft. Shaw seems to have slid a bit many due to mid fields and KPD's showings but he is by some miracle at our pick I'd be very happy.

Good KPP draft which is great for us. Can see use maybe picking up a ruck as a rookie pick, less risk considering our luck with using draft picks on them

I know nothing about junior footy but they showed some highlights of Tim Membrey on AFL360 the other night and he looked a bit like Luke Parker. On that basis alone I saw we draft him.

DOES HE FILL A NEED?

Asides, I love Parker but do we really need another of his type of midfielder? Currently our pick sits at 16-21 depending on position etc. Membrey seems a mid first rounder

Tim Membrey has a harder name to manipulate than Good Lukeing.

I disagree entirly. We have been most fortunite in recent years to have got Ball, Jolly and Mumford all from trading and sadly our ruck development has been poor, bar Pyke.

But we dont know when the luck of the trade wheel will stop and Im a big beliver in the ruck as part of the plan. All our rucks are mid twenties and up. While we will have two next year the succussesion plan needs to be looked at in the draft and a ruckman needs to be looked at if a trade for a younger ruck fails. Ayce Cordy at the bulldogs is a young-ruck target as Minson is in form, Roughead and now young Tom Campbell are pushing for spots squeezing him out.

I think getting a young ruck from trade or draft is imperative in this draft.
