They are different players. Battle is a genuine key forward.
He wouldn't be at AFL though and would play that third leading target at AFL imo
With his tank and explosive power could be turned into a defensive weapon

I like Battle, just not sure on how well he'll stand out at AFL level. His three goal burst in the third quarter in yesterday's game were all due to turnovers from the Allies leaving their defenders out of position and scrambling to find their match-ups. He was then missing for the fourth quarter. He's a very good set shot and his running power is obvious, but I dunno. I still like Kerr more in terms of size, body work, presence and staying in the game longer.

Man, I just really like this draft. Not so much for the talls, but just good footballers. Perryman didn't have the biggest game, but with people talking up Bowes as the Pendlebury of this draft, I'm more inclined to think it's Perryman. Accumulation of the ball in the under 18s doesn't faze me too much (maybe Ben Jacobs left me cynical to possession numbers), unless it's someone like McCluggage who somehow seemed to find a teammate every single time he had a disposal, under pressure or not, and still racked it up. Then I'm impressed.

If it hasn't already happened, I'm kinda thinking we bid on Perryman at whatever our pick is. GWS will 99% match, but hell, you never know. SPS will be gone by our pick for sure, Venables will hopefully be there. SPS, Brodie, McCluggage, McGrath, Bowes, Ainsworth, Perryman, Venables, Scharenberg, Taranto, Gallucci... I think so many players projected first round/second round should become good to very good AFL players and then there's just others I like.

The one everyone seems to talk up but I'm not seeing it yet is Macreadie. Not saying he won't be good, but I haven't seen what makes him so highly rated. I mean, he was on Battle when he kicked those 3 goals in the third - not entirely his fault, of course, but still.

I think there are 4 standouts in this draft (Brodie, SPS, McLuggage, Bowes) then theres a blanket over the next 10-15 guys who have the potential to be really good AFL players as well. We'll end up with the 9th or 10th live pick and end up with what should be a really good prospect for the future.

Kerr is an interesting one. Had such a good champs. Looked almost Tredrea like on occasion. 4 goals in a quarter to win it against SA and had some real impactful moments against the Allies and WA. All the hype has been around Marshall and Battle, he's kind of flown under the radar. Interesting to see where he falls at the draft and what his combine results are like, but in terms of pure football impact, he couldn't have done much more and was the best key forward of the champs.

I really like Taranto. I dont think he'd be the right player with our first pick but would love if we could snag another top 20 pick and he falls in our lap. Nothing overly special about him but hes smart and has an impact. #1 in score involvements across the champs is a great effort and he had a huge part to play in Metro's win over Country in that last quarter.

Macreadie seems to have fallen away a bit. People talking him up as similar to Weitering in his ability to control games, I dont think we saw that at all. Looks like a really solid key defender though.

Taranto/ella.

We need someone to fly the Italian flag. With Timmy and Jimmy (and to a lesser extent Jared) we'll have our ethnic bases covered. Fully sick m8.:thumbsu::pizza::coffee::italy:

This is AFL.com.au's first Phantom Form Guide for 2016, where we rank the best 20 players for 2016. Remember this is not a mock draft, and does not take into account where clubs are placed on the ladder or where the players might get picked. It is purely a ranking of the best players this year in our eyes.

I must admit i've not seen SA play this year however i watched yesterdays games and there were some impressive kids. From what i did hear, we gave the game away against VIC metro in the last quarter and could have won the comp had things gone differently.

Is it surprising that not one SA kid got named in the rankings above or are we just a better even spread of good players and not great players / stars.

We've got a few quite nice players (e.g. Scharengberg, Graham, Villis), but they've all got a bit of a question mark over them for one reason or another. That's not to say they're bad or unreliable, but in a reasonably even draft pool they need to find something to stand out even if it is just improving some deficiencies.

not sure if i should take this seriously, Jack Graham, the guy who was awarded best player of the U18 tournament and in the U18 All Australian team doesn't get named in the top 20 best players ?

There are legit queries over graham and his ability to transition to afl. I think he not being top 20 is fair enough

I like the looks of the W.A. Ruckman English . Very tall and grew up as a midfielder until a huge growth spurt turned him into a ruckman . He might go a bit high for us but he and a good mid for my Xmas list at this stage

It's an interesting draft. Barring SPS, Bowes, Brodie and McCluggage, all of the other top 20 have significant enough knocks to see them go anywhere in the top 25-30. Past drafts have a relatively set 10-15 and then more variability thereafter. There are also a number of players who haven't really shown much but are stand outs and others who have perhaps shown more but don't have the rating. Marshall and Kerr being prime examples. But maybe I am just over calling it.

Does Venables get enough of the ball to be successful at AFL? Can English's ruck craft transition to AFL where he won't have a height and weight advantage? SPP may tear through packs but is his disposal good enough? Etc, etc.

I'm still a bit surprised people are suggesting he may go top ten, even top five. Not sure he has thus far shown enough or that clubs are adventurous enough to take a ruck that high.

Im still not sold on English's actual ruckwork. Incredible athlete though.

If we had a proper ruck coach he'd do well with us.

Yea he's an interesting one , I guess we'll see how the rest of the season pans out for him but I'd love a tall ruckman , I'm a bit over this ruck problem we've got , Paddy is a great second ruck in my opinion . If there's one there with ground skills as well and can be involved in general play , I guess they need to be able to mark and kick a goal otherwise they can't rest anywhere but the bench

I'd give up all our draft picks for Rory Lobb in a heartbeat and he's a shithouse ruckman.

I guess that would be the hope of the club who pays a top ten pick for English.

More and more I am hoping that we trade into the first round to get that extra pick and draft two out of Todd Marshall/Tim English/Josh Battle.

Get back into the second round to grab an inside mid.

The more you look over his stats and footage, the more Andrew McGrath stands out. Super athlete, good kick, takes the game on. Right now he is that rebounding defender but seems versatile and his clearance numbers suggest he may be able to rotate through the middle.

I am not sure he will be there at pick 9-10, but wouldn't be disappointed if we took him.
