Suspect Pies might going hard at trying to trade into an earlier pick than where Kelly goes today. They could grab some one pre Kelly and then take the hit next year.

Very interesting. How do we do it though with limited picks this year and an inability to trade any future picks?

Carlton took their full five minutes to use pick 1, did they not? What’s that about?

Oh, SOS... nevermind.

AFL dictated that clubs had to use the full 5 minutes didn't they?

Yeah clubs had no choice but to use all 5 minutes even if they already knew who they were going to take after 5 seconds.

Is this going to happen again today for Part 2 of the ND? I note the starting time for ND is 12pm and the Rookie is not until 5pm!

How though?

We are unable to trade our 2019 2nd round selection owing to the Beams trade.

Uh oh. We might be at risk of this year's draft overlapping with next year's.

We'll get both boys anyway.
Kelly our long term key back (like daddy but more skilled and athletic)
Quaynor.

It's happening regardless of speculation.

If you recall Craig Kelly, and Will got to his levels, we'd be thrilled I reckon.
If Quaynor is a more skilled and smarter Lumumba we'd be very happy indeed.
That would make Quaynor an absolute champion

Yes exactly. They were obviously all told to take the full time even though it was not needed in moist cases

I think the flaw here is two fold.

Carlton will be relying on two things.

1) Their own improvement v Adelaide decline.
2) the player Stocker being of real high end talent

Hence this is why to me it’s really a poor (smart Alec move).

Carlton is going to finish low again in season 2019. They played woeful this year and were badly thrashed on various occasions.
Sides that have scooted up the ladder usually show promising form the season before, “honourable” losses, being really competitive etc.
Carlton was woeful.

Stocker? Pre this draft did anyone talk of him in that mega elite group?
If Carlton had pulled the coup for Lukosius, a King, Rankine, that level, then sure great coup.
But they’re getting a player in the next level top talent.
So that for the likely 1,2,3 pick?
To me weird and very dumb.

Those early picks are the greatest gold.
They better hope stocker is an elite star.

Doesn't that depend upon where clubs rank him? Broadly considered to be in that 2nd tier 11-20 group, considered an elite inside mid with an explosive burst out of stoppages. Can't be that bad.

I enjoyed the presentation of the draft last night and didn't feel bored at all.
I think we laugh at the 5 minutes that Carlton used.
But no doubt the AFL wants it to be a bit of a drama.

The most silly looking thing was Gil walking up each time; just seemed very weird.
Also they should use a more presentable reader of the names or even return to clubs reading it out.

Gil is a toxic bore.

Uh oh. We might be at risk of this year's draft overlapping with next year's.

Let's hope they revert back to the previous years timings for Part 2 and the reason the rookie draft is so late is so that clubs can have a few hours to prepare post ND!

Plus it’s Carlton, Stocker will probably turn into a plodder.

He actually looks a quality player, even if Carlton finish low but he turns out to be a very good player then it can be somewhat justified.

I think Walsh over Lukosious or Rankine or B.King was questionable as well. It's a safe pick to take him imo, on talent the other 3 are better and in years to come they could have another pick 1 who isn't the best player from his draft year.

He likely is a good player.
If they rate him genuine best 5 talent then makes sense.
If not, it’s an awful risk.

Let’s be brutal here, Carlton are finishing bottom 4 next season and I’d be bold and say bottom 3 or worse (Gold Coast and St Kilda their companions).
They are an awful footy team.

If this stocker guy was like a Rankine or Bailey Smith makes sense.

Time will tell ofcourse.

Don't think it rules us out, as we will still have later picks, but it would cause us to go into further deficit next year if he was bid on before 56 I think.

Cheers, just thought there might have been a rule about matching additional bids after you go into deficit.

Walsh v Lukosius

Might be like Luke Ball v Nick Riewoldt.

Then again might be

Walsh (like L Hodge / D Swan / T Mitchell)

Then that’s fine.

Lukosius (like N Riewoldt / W Carey)
yikes! Equally what if he’s like Josh Fraser....

It probably depends on how long Kelly stays on the board and we are targetting with our last pick.

I think Carlton will be 1 of the surprise packets in 2019. They've got some really talented kids who are all another year further advanced in their development.

agreed, I think they have top 17 aspirations that are entirely achievable.

There is always surprising teams, agree.

But the thrashing’s they copped eg by Freo says to me the blues will not progress much.
I might be wrong and you right but they look a rabble to me.
Don’t see Bolton do anything but be annoying to the playing group. He could not possibly talk that home spun goody two shoes stuff to them all the time. Drive me insane.

That, and I can’t stand them.

I enjoyed the presentation of the draft last night and didn't feel bored at all.

Besides Carlton taking the full five minutes for the first pick I enjoyed it also.

I'm not sure how their improvement in 2019 will be reflected in terms of ladder position. Look at the Bears this year, very competitive, but still couldn't manage any more than 5 wins. Will be a very even comp in 2019, GCS the only team that you'd comfortably rate as a battler.

Very fair point.
Brisbane is a good contrast to Carlton.

I could be mistaken but they seemed very competitive at times and Carlton rarely.

Carlton would min want to become at least competitive. Hope they don’t.

20 mins boys and girls
