Hi all, pardon the intrusion. Just wondering if there’s any word from those in the know regarding who you guys have in your crosshairs for your first pick?

Looks inevitable that Jackson is gone at 3. Nobody really knows what GWS are up to, but lets say for argument’s sake that they take Ash. You’ll then clearly bid on Green, and they’ll match. You’ll then have a choice of Young, Flanders, Stephens or even Robertson. Replace one player in that list with Ash if GWS don’t go with Lachie at pick 4.

Any word from insiders as to who you rate the highest of that bunch? Most phantoms seem to link you with Flanders, but I’m not so sure about that - just doesn’t really feel like a Swans pick to me.

Cheers
None of us have any idea. At different times all the players you mentioned, plus Serong, have been suggested.

No one has a clue, and if they say they do they’re lying.

Thats how close the club are keeping their selection.

As said before NFI.

Agree on Flanders not being exactly what ee want in terms of need.

Been linked with multiple players. Only on That most are not hugely keen on is Ash. Is very outside and we need grunt.

Who is the youngest player in this year's draft? I know we picked up Tommy Mc won was the youngest in his draft year and I'm pretty sure we've done it with someone else aswell. Seems like an extra year of development is something we value highly
Isaac Wareham is 24 Dec and looks a likely later pick. Good size, Vic Country so less gone home and looks pretty quick.
No idea if he can play but apart from that slight issue he looks good.

Hewett was another.

Dawson looks to be set for big midfield time next year, at least by his running results on return and the time is right, career wise to move into the midfield, if that is how he wants to make his mark.

So That role of precision kicker and playmaker off defence that he filled this year could fall to a few others but I wonder if the swans will bolster it with their 2nd pick in this draft - thus choose a strong, rebounder with a decent kick - Gould might be one at pk 25. So a midfield pick at 5 (Stephens, Serong, Robertson, Kemp ) and 32 (Rantall? Or Schoenberg, Dow, ) and mature ager at 44 to round it off - could be a strategy.....
Dawson's too good to be wasted as an inside mid. There's a reason why disposal skills are less important for them. We need his run and delivery on the outside. I'd like to see Hewitt given more time as an inside mid. Clarke can play as the tagger in games where one is needed.

It’s funny how so many of “us” can have such strong views based on a 3 minute highlights package. The apparent meltdowns, cringing, and toy tossing that will happen after a seasoned, proven professional in Dalrymple makes our choice will be quite entertaining.
Agreed. Highlight footage is next to useless in assessing a players ability. You can sometimes get an idea of their athletic abilities such as speed, leap, etc but when it comes to skill, reading the play, etc it's such a small sample size that it's misleading.

If you want to watch full matches.

There is a Bigfooty thread with links to replays of the U18 championship games. Though a few of the replays require you to have Kayo Sports.

Nab league has a youtube channel with full match replays though most won't have commentary.

Need to grab the player with the best clearance numbers, but not the dodgy clearances, like a handball to a teammate under pressure but a player capable of clean clearances.

I am in two minds about that (assuming best clearance player is majority inside... and we can’t get Green). We should be able to get a couple of good players with 25/32 that are good on the inside.

One of the reasons I like Stephens is I feel he could play inside/outside at AFL level once he has the physical size. He is quick and his kicking seems pretty good.

I certainly understand that but I also think Robertson is less of a stretch at pick 5 than Stephens. Also we need an inside player more than an outside player at the moment, though we do need both.

In an ideal world at the end of the first two rounds the Swans will have Devon Robertson and Cooper Stephens. That would be perfect in my eyes.

Robertson and Stephens are in a similar range from what I’ve seen.

Around 5-12 could almost go anywhere.

That is true. It is such a hard draft to guess.

One more benefit Robertson has over Stephens, which most would see as a down side but I definitely see as a benefit is that Robertson is rather one dimensional. He only plays one position, and he plays that one position very well. Should we draft him Longmire can't put him in the team and have him play as a forward or defender, or even outside midfielder. Robertson in the team can only be put in one position and that is his natural position.
