There is some element of difference in the pretrade value of D Jarman and Crocker/Keays though.

The original point was that they were discards who would never amount to nuthin.

That wasn't quite the Hawthorn's opinion of DJ.
No fair point, I probably contradicted myself where D Jarman and Eddie Betts are concerned.

Most of the others I named in both posts probably belong in that category though.

Haven't heard that the NAB League's been called off anywhere and that's where most of the top prospects will come from again, local lads here all still in training and it kicks off here next Saturday week with the GWV Rebels vs the Dandenong Stingrays here in Ballarat....already penned into my diary.

2020 NAB League Fixture.

I'm not sure if the number of people at those games is enough to constitute a "mass gathering" - even if the AFL season gets cancelled / delayed / empty stadiums / whatever, these smaller games might well go ahead. I think the definition of a mass gathering they go on is something like 500 or 1,000 people? Ie a major sporting event, concert, etc. Amateur / junior stuff might still go ahead? Although I guess all you need is one player to get a confirmed case then all his team mates have to self-isolate for a couple of weeks, so those games get cancelled anyway.

Do you think if by some miracle we finished up with a fit and healthy Baldwin and Thilthorpe in the draft people would stop coveting Lucosius?
Personally I'd still love Luko if the opportunity arose, but he wouldn't be any kind of priority.

He'd make an absolutely elite intercepting half back, or if kept on the leaner side, a wingman.

Tbh I'm not sure why obsess over him currently, he plays for GC and that's that until something changes, if it ever does.

So Lyons, delisted by the Suns and was picked up by Brisbane; by your logic any club that takes a DFA is wasting their time and will never be in premiership contention as long as they have these kinds of duds on their list.

Where did Brisbane finish last year?
No Lyons was best 22 and Crows and GC. He wasnt surpassed by a group of kids and playing a whole season in the neafl.

Jarryd Lyons agrees to sever ties to Gold Coast despite having a year to run on his contract.
"We added real depth to our midfield during the trade period and as a result Jarryd understands that his opportunities would be increasingly limited," list and strategy manager Craig Cameron said.
"With that being the case, the club and Jarryd have had a mature discussion and agree that another club may offer him greater opportunity to play in the midfield in the future."
Lyons is expected to be picked up by Brisbane as a delisted free agent following this decision.

Jarryd Lyons joins Brisbane as a delisted free agent on what is believed to be a three-year contract.

So a bottom team cant fit him in but a top team where Keays cant get a game can. Surely you can read between the lines.
This is that hard to work out.

Lots of people talk about gut running, massive tank and speed, speed, speed. Personally I’d like to see blokes with a lot of polish and good footy brains. You don’t have to 2-way run as much if you don’t continually turn the ball over and kick the goals you should. I don’t think a Dusty Martin, Patrick Cripps, Nat Fyfe would be in the huge tank or super speed category and look what type players they are? 🤷‍♂️

One with super speed like a Cameron would be nice however.

absolutely.
people are kidding themselves or delusional if they think they are part of the next rebuild

Collingwood and Brisbane didnt think they had any trade value says it all and the fact we didn't offer a packet of chips says more.
they are there to help the sanfl team as we lost so ma
Good point, as well as one D Jarman

Gary Ablett Snr seemed to go alright after his failed Hawthorn stint.

Yes, and Hawthorn had a great team at the time that played in 7 grand finals and won 5 of them after Gary Snr left. Worked out for both parties.

If this is the case, be interesting to see how would they would handle the future pick swaps from this year’s draft?

On iPad using BigFooty.com mobile app
true, but then again, teams like Geelong who have a bunch of aging stars now see those players another year older and that might push them right out of contention so it will affect different team in different ways

Say we finish 14th. Pick 5.
Let Brad walk. Pick 6.
GWS finish 3rd. Pick 16.
Dogs finish 7th. Pick 30.
Hamish/Reid trade 2021 1st for Pick 10.

Pick 5 - Thilthorpe (ruck/KPF)
Pick 6 - Baldwin (KPF)
Pick 10 - midfielder
Pick 16 - points for Edwards
Pick 30 - best available
Remaining picks - Borlase and Newchurch.

Would set us up.
This would be great ..
But our genious football department would more than likely split picks 5/6 into a scatter of late or future draft picks ... for reasons that the rest of us just wouldn't understand 🙄..
This fascination the crows have with future draft picks is floored .. we traded out of a super draft ffs...with all the player movement and drafts now in play it is becoming easier by the year to get a player you need.
Take your pick and back yourself in !!

Future pick trades usually look good (in our favour) at the time.

They they get diluted with academy picks, compo picks and priority picks (thanks AFL).

Then there's the fact that the can has been kicked down the road. We traded Lever at the end of 2017 for two first round picks and three years later we're still yet to use one of them.

We ask that you please advise all players, parents and staff of the following:
- Attendance at games is restricted to players, officials, umpires and immediate family members. Please limit the amount of family and friends coming to watch the games. Ideally only parents and dependant siblings should attend. Please discourage all other family members and friends from attending.
- Only players, officials and umpires are to enter the playing arena at any time including quarter breaks.
- Only players, officials and umpires are allowed into the changerooms.
- When at the game look to spread yourself out so that there is at least a 2m gap from other people.
- Where there are multiple games involved at the same venue please leave immediately after your game.
- If you have any symptoms of a cold or a cough, please do not attend the game.
- A precautionary perimeter between attendees and the players and team staff is encouraged.
- Players and staff to continue sanitary practices at all games during this time to minimise the chance of exposure.
- Communal use of water bottles should be avoided at all times. In the short term it would be prudent to have all players be in possession of their own drink bottle.
- If manual therapies are deemed an absolute necessity, additional time per player should be allocated to complete cleaning with appropriate surface disinfectant of all equipment.
We encourage all future club functions to be reviewed and look to be rescheduled so to protect all players and staff.

We ask you to adhere to these protocols to ensure that we can continue to run the competition into the future. This week will provide a litmus test on whether this will be a possibility.
We will continue to provide clubs with protocols to assist with the health and safety of players, clubs and supporters.
The situation is fluid and further protocols will reflect this.

Wowee
Go back 40 years and what part of 23 yo thats been in the system for 5 years with great work ethic and great trainers who played 30 games and got surpassed by younger draft kids applies to Gary Ablett SNR?
Hint! None

It's simply my observation these two won't make it and if they do the crows will be not winning finals and for all your hope and wishful thinking every other clubs recruiters agree and so does Hamish
We are going to have a very young sanfl team and these guys are paid peanuts to support the younger kids.

Seems a sensible approach to it

Hamish has never been afraid to back his picks in, and pick outside the norm.

Reid does the pick trades. I'm sure he has a conversation with Hamish about it, but it's his call

I think it’s more a list management committee decision. Reid is then charged with getting best result at the negotiation table and Hamish and his crew to get the best talent with the picks we end up with. Even then, list committee may decide a certain type at a certain pick, so not necessarily always pure ‘best available’ for the talent ID guys.

We're probably going to be looking at a reduced season once a player gets the virus and entire teams are put into isolation. Early losses could be very important to get an early draft pick.

Its not about moving on its about given a fair go and being surpassed.

the closest example you gave was McKernan and the point i made was these guys wont be in the side tilting for a flag because if they are in the side it means the youth havent come on and its a crap side the fact essendon havent won a final for 15 years says it all. Is that what you want?

what this list highlights is Adelaide's poor list management under Reid

we keep mackay, wilson while letting Lyons and henderson go should be the red flag

heres maybe a better way to put it show me a 23 yo who played 30 games was best 22 with great attitude and work ethic who isnt injury prone, got drop to state league for a whole season then got delisted, go on and play in a side that had a serious tilt at the flag?

It’s Pyke and Campo who provide player ratings to the list management committee that results in guys like Lyons being offered crap money and Hendo delisted outright. Reid just tries to get the best deal possible. But the decision is not made by him in isolation.
