AFL Grand Final 2023 AFL Grand Final: Collingwood vs Brisbane

That was a great game between the two best sides all year. Pity about the rubbish advantage call at the end, would have been called back against us.

Darcy Moore does like the sound of his own voice, I was thinking he was going to filibuster half the night away.

That whole kiddies in costumes dancing thing while KISS sang a song basically about getting laid was just a bit creepy. But given the choice of Boys Light Up for last year's Brownlow, a hardly surprising tone deaf AFL decision.

But hey, Victoria!

Billy Brownless once asked Mark Seymour if the holy grail was written about the AFL premiership.

Imagine if someone came up to you today and said that Craig McRae will get sacked before Hinkley.

I’d believe them in a heartbeat.

Wonder if they'll have an enquiry into the Victorian dominance of the competition? Like they did in the early 2000's when Brisbane, us, Sydney and West Coast won flags.

The competition stinks, always has and always will.

The advantage call at the end took away any chance of an epic GF having the ending it deserved be it a Brisbane mark or a Leo Barry moment.

The poor standard of umpiring is a stain on the on field product. That was the worst umpired GF for a long time.
You also have to remember West Coast in the early days was basically a WA state side playing in a club competition.
We would have been much better off getting in early but the good old SANFL fkd that up.

Record equaling? **** your vic state league flags
Lol its not even vic state... they dont count VFA because if they did they would still be behind...

They are the equal record holder if you specifically only count the exact competitions which make them look good and conveniently ignore the competitions they didn't win.

Its like saying we are undefeated this year in games that we won.

You're forgetting all the fringe players Ken has brought under his wing and nurtured into star players within his brilliant system.

You’re forgetting Neade just won a b&f for Portland…

The AFL is more an entertainment these days than a competition, similar to WWE.

The AFL is solely driven by money and what makes money is (1) big Victorian Clubs winning and (2) expansion clubs being successful as that opens new markets to make more money.

Today we saw objective 1 and objective 2 come into conflict and Brisbane came off second best.

The fixture and umpiring all the serve the above.

Everyone else hanging around are just there to pad out the TV rights and not get in the way of the endless drive for more cash.

AFL HQ treat the punters as mugs, and if we are still hanging around to accept what they offer, they are probably right.

Why does the norm Smith medal panel need a chair lol
Is Luke darcy the one in charge of the counting and collecting?

Let's be realistic here. It was only a great game because Daniel McStay and Taylor Adams weren't playing and Nathan Murphy went off injured in the first quarter. Imagine someone actually contributing and being a threat rather than Frampton's carbon rod bullshit.

In other words, Brisbane weren't even playing Collingwood at their best and they still couldn't get it done. They are still well s**t at the MCG and will never win a flag with that list. Collingwood > Brisbane for mine - at least the Pies haven't relied on bullshit concessions from the AFL and then pretended that they are some hot s**t side.

To be fair lions were missing Ashcroft and Payne and had Eric Hipwood playing for them.

It could be seen as compelling.

VICS whinged a lot when there were only 5 VIC flags in 15 years 92-06.
Yeah but in that time period you had some pretty unique circumstances.
West Coast was basically a state side in those days playing in a club comp and also in that period you had most probably the best side ever to grace a football ground.
Those things will never happen again.
The competition has been adjusted so it’s basically impossible for an interstate side to win multiple flags in a row.
Yes an interstate team can win the flag but they are going to need a lot of factors going their way.
I reckon an interstate team winning the flag twice in a 10 year span would be about the odds with the way it’s set up now.
