Somebody mentioned he had the shits about Venkat being made captain. Boycott was seething about Mike Denness captaining England here in 74-75 so it was a time for opening batsmen to be cranky about captaincy appointments.
Boycott didn't end up touring here in 74-75, neither did John Snow.

So that's their (probably) best batsman and best bowler at the time each sitting at home while the Poms were getting flogged.

And South Africa had won 15 of their previous 18 games against Australia - doesn't mean much if you can't win the ones that really count.

The more matches you win, the closer you get to a loss

Its amazing watching India and their fans just completely and utterly give up. Soft head *s.

Haven't even tried anything different to win, they're happy to just witness the greatness like the rest of us
This is so apparent - even with 100 to win India haven't really tried. If this was reversed you would have seen part timers, field up, different tactics. India have given up way too early.

Lost in all this will be the selectors and I bagged them for this, playing two rocks at 4 and 5 has worked. It allows your 3 sloggers to tee off knowing you have the stability behind

It would probably be a liability if playing on the 350+ pitches that we saw for a lot of the tournament. The two finals matches being low scoring with 210 and 240, and those two at 4 and 5 become a strength being the guys to see it through

Do we have bragging rights over India since 18/19?
World Cup and Test Championship vs 2 away Border Gavaskar wins.

As good as Head has been, the team bowling/fielding performance set this up.
incredible given what India have been doing this entire tournament, right up to this final..

He was also the fielding performance that set it up. Sharma catch is the game.

100%, ideally find someone that can do both but they are so rare

Sunny referenced this when Maxi hit his 100 off 40, he said I took 170 balls to make 36, he's made 100 in 40.
I looked at the scorecard 010203 posted, it was 36* off 174 balls and the team made 3-132 off 60 overs (as one-dayers were back then).
