I dread NFL preseason, only bad things can happen. :(
It's where all your fantasy stars get injured ruining your season before it starts

Jimmy Garoppolo (foot) passed his physical Sunday and is expected to be fully available for the start of training camp Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Garoppolo spent the offseason recovering from left foot surgery, and there were some concerns about his availability to start 2023. The Raiders included a clause in the three-year deal Garoppolo signed in March that would allow the team to terminate his contract if he failed a physical. However, that conversation can likely be put to rest when the veteran quarterback is back on the field next week. If healthy, Garoppolo figures to be the frontrunner for the starting gig, while veteran Brian Hoyer and rookie Aidan O'Connell compete for backup duties.

What 'Stars' are playing preseason games anymore beyond a series or so in game 2?

players go down in practice all the time. it just happens. it also means dumb players wont get hurt doing dumb things away from football or playing backyard sports and breaking or popping something.

Preseason should be about getting excited because the regular season is just a few weeks away.

Normally happens in training I guess.

Yes, this what I meant by it, training camp injuries to stars happen far more often than you get in an AFL preseason. Absolutely deflating.

An injury to Bryce Young before week 1 and I might cry.

Jets had a couple of practices already, decent catch by some guy who will be cut...

The kind of highlights that will keep you getting opportunities on PS around the league at least though if he doesn't make it.

God, I love it when TC footage starts to fill up social media.

Weather starts to turn, the business end of the AFL and local footy. One of the best times of the year.

Really bad for Hines]

Maybe bills back in play for dalvin.

Doubt this makes much difference to their thinking around Dalvin Cook. Hines was there for his special teams value more than his running back value.

They still have Harris and Murray on the roster for early down work (as far as im aware).. If they were going to add Dalvin I think one of them would need to be the RB to go down.

Raiders signed CB Marcus Peters, formerly of the Ravens, to a contract.

A union between Peters and the Raiders felt inevitable after the two sides spent the last several months speaking with one another. Peters, 30, has spent the last four seasons with the Ravens but missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL. When he returned for the 2022 season, the two-time All-Pro appeared in 13 games and earned a PFF coverage grade of 69.5. Peters allowed 44 receptions for 519 yards and five touchdowns last season and forced just one interception. He should have no trouble earning snaps in a secondary that allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game last season.

And there is your replacement for Hines, a RB who is a return specialist....

Bills signed RB Darrynton Evans, formerly of the Colts, to a contract.

The signing of Evans comes hours after it was announced that Nyheim Hines (knee) would miss the 2023 season. Hines entered the league as a versatile playmaker when the Titans drafted him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s bounced around between the Bears and Colts but has seen little playing opportunity. Like Hines, Evans also has experience as a return man, and could compete for a return role with the Bills.

SMH, glass man, walking injury....

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney is “to miss some time during training camp” after aggravating an old knee injury.

Schefter notes that Toney “underwent an off-season cleanup procedure on his knee” but re-aggravated his knee on Sunday while fielding punts with the team. The oft-injured receiver will miss a portion of training camp as he looks to rebound from this early setback but is expected to be ready for the start of the season. Toney’s ADP is likely to fall in light of this recent news, providing his truthers a lengthy buying opportunity in drafts.

Sounds like he got lucky...

ESPN’s Field Yates reports an MRI on Lions S C.J. Gardner-Johnson showed “no structural damage” to his knee.

Gardner-Johnson is officially considered day-to-day after Monday’s injury scare. The Lions safety was carted from Monday’s practice following a non-contact knee injury, but reports since the injury have been all positive. All things appear to be trending toward Gardner-Johnson returning to the field after a few days of rest

Some more surprising and good injury news for fantasy players....

NFL Network’s James Palmer reports Broncos RB Javonte Williams (knee) will avoid the active/PUP list to begin training camp.

Huge. It had been trending that way since organized team activities, but it is now official. Williams did enough in his rehab from a torn ACL to avoid the PUP list coming into camp, meaning it is likely we see him begin the season as the starting running back for the Broncos, though he could still miss a game or two. What this means for sure is that the Broncos believe Williams will not need the four games mandated by the PUP list. There is still the distinct possibility that the team brings him along slowly once the season starts, particularly considering the offseason addition of Samaje Perine, but avoiding the PUP is an excellent sign for the third-year back. He should be considered more likely than not to be active for Week 1.

Pretty whirlwind off season for him. Glad he's not injured.

Josh Jacobs will not report to training camp for the Raiders and was spotted on a flight out of Las Vegas on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Jacobs, who has yet to sign his franchise tender, intends to hold out of training camp beginning Tuesday. He and the Raiders failed to reach an agreement on a long-term contract by last Monday's deadline, and because he hasn't yet signed his franchise tag, the team will not be able to fine him for practice absences. That gives Jacobs, who led the league in rushing and yards from scrimmage last season, leverage to hold out until Week 1 before he starts facing significant financial penalties. To call the 2019 first-round pick integral to Las Vegas' offense would be an understatement, and the team will need to divvy first-team reps between Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden until he returns to the practice field.
