Because it costs money to run a club and more money is usually considered a positive thing. So if you are being paid money to do something that then increases how much money you have to run the club.
Remember money can be exchanged for goods and services.
It does nothing to help us one bit, clubs are here for one thing in the end-to win. You need access at the top end. The two pick rule fixes nearly everything. Clubs now have to make calls whether they pay market price. You can always pass like we did with Carmichael
