Collingwood premiership ruckman Mason Cox has apologised for shoving Giants ruck coach Shane Mumford out of the way as the rivals prepared to begin their pre-match stoppage drills on Saturday night.

The AFL issued Cox with a “please explain” after the incident, which occurred in a transition phase as the Magpies were finishing their own centre-bounce warm-up and the Giants moved into the area.

Cox, who turns 33 on Thursday, pushed an unaware Mumford from behind, before jumping up and running away with the ball. A Collingwood official holding a ruck bag was backing away from the circle and Magpies midfielder Nick Daicos was leaving the area.

Mumford – one of the AFL’s most imposing ruckmen during his 2008-21 career – and Giants players, including Stephen Coniglio and Callan Ward, looked on in bemusement at Cox’s antics.

Cox needs to go to specsavers if he does know the difference beetween orange and black and white stripes

I love watching the Giants play. Great game last night good to watch. Both teams are awesome

Giants look set for a big year.

They look settled.

Fit.

Loaded with talent.

And hurt and hungry.

When a team builds that level of experience, is loaded with talent and has the recent pain of a grand final defeat they are ready to take the next step.

These guys are ready to go all the way in 2024 IMO. No weaknesses anywhere.

Any opportunity to pot Cox.

It’s actually a great system based game style.

One soldier out, next comes in and does their job.

They’ve got some handy players to return too.
