Discussion bounce down is now!
SYDNEY SWANS 150TH YEAR CELEBRATIONS

The Sydney Swans will tonight wear a specially designed guernsey to commemorate our 150th year. Our South Melbourne heritage is represented through the iconic V pattern repeated through the top half of the guernsey, while the core of today’s home guernsey shows the connection with Sydney.

An on-field ceremony to mark the occasion will commence at 7pm.

MARCH TO THE MATCH

To celebrate 150 years, Sydney Swans players and coaching staff will tonight March to the Match from Sydney Swans HQ. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and join our guard of honour to the SCG at 6:25pm, with past club greats to join us in welcoming the team into the stadium.

TICKETING

Tonight’s match between the Sydney Swans and Melbourne at the SCG is officially a sell-out.

JESSE BAIRD AND LUKE DAVIES TRIBUTE

A tribute to AFL Goal Umpire Jesse Baird and his partner Luke Davies will take place prior to tonight’s match. Both clubs and umpires will come together pre-game at 7:27pm to pay tribute to Jesse and Luke, with clubs and umpires to also wear black armbands as a mark of respect.

RON BARASSI TRIBUTE

Tonight’s players and coaches will also wear black arm bands to pay their respects to the great Ron Barassi, who passed away in September 2023. Barassi’s impact on both the Sydney Swans and Melbourne Football Club was profound – having played and coached in a total of 374 VFL/AFL matches for both clubs.

TEAM SELECTION

The Sydney Swans will have two club debutants tonight. Brodie Grundy and James Jordon have been selected to pull on the red and white for the first time against their former club.

I predict Swans comfortably in this game by 4-5 goals. Melbourne forward line is decimated by injuries and will struggle to score again. Swans is top 4 team for me this year.

Swans have had a happy and healthy off season. This time last year we had 25 fit players and this year we have 40.

Unhappily the Dees have had some behavioural and injury issues.

Think this will be the first entertaining season opener in years.

Bloods By 30+.

Maybe I was a bit dramatic. What do you think went wrong for Sydney last season?
2nd worst injury tally, only West Coast had more.
Injuries to KPPs
Amartey - injured for 9 games
Ladhams - half the season
Tom McCartin - 9 games
Paddy McCartin - 20 games
Logan McDonald - 4 games
Hayden McLean - 2 games
Melican - 16 games
Rampe - 9 games
Sam reid - 24 games
Hickey - 12 games
Buddy - 11 games
Thats a pretty significant injury tally to the Swans talls! There was also a normal amount of injuries to the medium/small players. Hard to win when the best two tall fwds, best two tall defs and the best two rucks are injured.

Reckon the Swans are primed for a big 150th birthday year.
Will beat the dees by 40+

Swans by 35
I’m heading up to the game and closer it gets the more I think what on earth was I thinking when i organised this haha but I love footy and I love my team so why not!
Also love watching the swans and been a few years since I’ve been to the scg.

Just happy footy is nearly back!

The talent is there but you'd have to be worried about their current mental state, with everything swirling around.

I'd be thrilled to be getting them first up at the moment.
This.
We will soon find out which way they come out. They will either crumble and miss the 8 or fire up and win the granny for me. I can’t see any other way. For me, we miss the 8 though

i cannot see the demons winning this one they have one of the worst pre seasons you could imagine, the saga with Oliver, the drug issue with Smith still not finished, Brayshaw's retirement and the Barlett saga that will not go away.
