Good game by both teams, very equal in efforts just one was a little more effective forward. Not sure why they pulled Chol though ? especially with other key forward struggling today.

Catching up on the highlights, not a fan of Sicily but watching him sit McGrath down when he was trying to be tough was very very funny. #SicilyDidNothingWrong

Got put on his arse earlier and didn't get the reversal free. He's just umpired differently.

Ah well. Lots to like but * me that was frustrating. We aren't a good enough side yet to kick 11.17 and win a game.

Lewis, Newcombe and Sicily all had one of the worst games I've seen them play all on the one day. Mitchell had a mare at selection.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

Don't think Moore is going to get enough credit for his game.

To be able to produce that effort in 30 degree heat with everyone else cramping after glandular fever is nothing short of extraordinary.

Shame his other teammates couldn't follow suit.

Ben McKay ! Cheers norf ! Goldy as the steak knives. Mmmmm.

kicked ourselves out of it in the first half.

Yeah the Saints have been guilty of that plenty of times, outplaying the opposition in general play but not making it count on the scoreboard.

Frustrating to watch as a supporter.

It's the worst way to lose IMO. Maybe a kick after the siren is worse but at least with that it's out of your control.

We should have won this game easily with the opportunities we had. Essendon couldn't miss. Fair play to them. Their conversion was awesome today. Even the difficult shots 50m out they nailed.

Growing up I perceived that the bombers had an annoying tradition of being accurate (against the Eagles anyway). Still get those chills when they mostly kick straight and haven’t been completely put away yet, and even some of the defeats are rendered annoyingly honourable.

17.5 defeat 11.17, been there, feel you

One thing I'd like to point out though is that Essendon dominated centre clearances. When Hawthorn scored, Essendon immediately replied.

But Hawthorn had the better game for 3 quarters so I can see where the frustration comes from.

Will take the win given we were missing our 3 best players plus hobbs and shiel not quite ready yet and reid injured before half time. Hopefully we dont have so many players fumbly and down on form next week. Good cobweb duster
