Does anyone else find it's almost impossible to lose by more than a goal to the AI? If I'm ever 5+ goals down in the last quarter, the AI will just kick it out on the full, stop chasing me or do helecopter kicks inside their defensive 50 until I'm back in the lead.
Are you always playing against the Crows?

Credit where it's due, the guernsey creator is one thing in the game I'm actually satisfied with. It's nowhere near BA Cricket's level but it meets my standards for a first effort. It's something I've championed for a long time and glad they actually put it in. It's very limited and the shorts not being a separate individual colour is stupid (or even defaulting to the predominant colour), but I'm happy with it as a first crack. Honestly I can make most things I want with it. The custom logos like BA Cricket would be a super addition but for a first up go I don't mind it.

If they were going to patch something, the colour selector needs an overhaul to allow grey. And I doubt it's patchable but separating the shorts to have their own colour selector would improve it immensely.

I feel like it's an almost there effort. To me, it appears to be more than it actually is. Mainly due to how it restricts you to colour certain areas the same. For example, there's a chevron jumper that would suit early 93-96 Bears, but it also includes side panels that default to the same colour as part of the chevron. Separate them so you can do different colours and make the side panels the same colour as the main guernsey, so it's all solid, would be great. It's like it's almost there in so many ways.

A lot of choices, yes. But just these little things that make things about 95% of the way.

The Switch version is a disappointment for sure, bad frame rate and not as fun to play as a portable game (too many players to keep an eye on when they all look like ants on the screen!).

Had a good game on the Xbox earlier. Hawthorn v Brisbane, I shot off to a decent first quarter lead. Which Brisbane fought back and overtook in the second and kept dominating in the third quarter. I mounted a fightback in the final term, to lead by a few goals. Being Brisbane's home game I knew they'd mount a challenge and they were nearly unstoppable in the final few minutes. I'd blunt a few of their attacks on the half back line, but the ball would end up coming back even faster than before. They cut the lead down to 3 points with just seconds remaining, they got it down to their end AGAIN.... I thought oh crap, I defended it away, only for the ball to be bombed long yet again. The ball gets grounded, they soccer it off the ground twice as the seconds tick....... the ball rolls along the ground right to the goal line, siren sounds..... ball rolls through. I got out of jail massively :D

There’s so many bugs, can’t deny it, but it seems like I’m one of the few enjoying the game. Never had any frame rate issues at all, standard settings on a regular PS4. Love my camera setting (side, mid, 35, 55). Can play kick mark all day long, switch, even on the highest difficulties I’m having really fun matches with the CPU. Lock on works a wonder, radar is useful. The queue handball and kick feature is terrific, allows for some great scoop up and handball to a bloke running past situations. Clear cut best footy game for me, doesn’t even come close.

Wish the opposition didn’t boot it out on the full for no reason. Wish there was a decent stats menu. Wish the presentation wasn’t so shit. Wish they didn’t send my back pocket into the ruck every five minutes. Suspended players shouldn’t still be able to play if you’ve got it on manual. Duplicating players or deleting them accidentally is a massive issue. Can’t believe they didn’t record 18 variations of a line, or 10 lines per team. Yeah they’d get old, but much better than “And.....WEST COAST....line up for goal”.

It’s by no means perfect, I’m not even sure on it’s best day it scrapes into the technically good category, and yet I’m having a ****ing ball with it to the point that I’m worried any patches will drastically alter my experience. From a bug perspective it’s a shit show, and yet every game I have is really fun and filled with satisfying footy moments. If they can squash the bugs and not change a thing about the gameplay experience I think I’d be the happiest person in the community, but it sounds like I’m in the tiniest of minorities.

No, I'm definitely enjoying it too.

What blows my mind is that even though it was delayed by what? A year? I'd say another 6 months of development time was needed.

I actually don't mind the Switch crowd. It almost looks stylized. The PS4/xbox crowd is atrocious in an attempt to look like a real crowd.

I've thought before that in sports games if you can't do an amazing looking crowd like say MLB The Show or NBA 2k then you could try for a more stylized effect, maybe similar to crowds back in those old Wii Sports games.

Maybe WW should do the same for the players, at least on a Switch version. That's pretty awful looking.

And yeah wow, that gameplay...

Oh god, I know they had to change engines but I shudder to think what the 2018 version looked like.

Well, it looked better obviously, because Kennedy and Shuey were on the cover, but you know what I mean.

:p

It's fun but the frustration of the frame rate and the annoying bugs (one that annoys me is when a free kick from a deliberate rushed behind is taken at an angle from the boundary line.... instead of directly in front of the goal square!!) ruin the experience a bit.

I am clunking marks left and right though (same as Evolution), no problem with playing the game. There's many frustrations with it.

I'll add that, like many of you, there's so many bugs in all areas of the game, you really need to just workaround them as much as you can. We shouldn't have to do it, but it's the reality.

I love the customisation of teams. Not for shit teams that people seem to love uploading, thinking people actually want to download their crap (like IDGAF if you make a Hawthorn team with Patrick Cripps and other opposition players in it, it's just trash). I love the effort gone into making State sides, the AFLX sides (genius, btw), and historical sides. Kudos to anyone who has put that effort in, I've grabbed all that I can, it's great.

But damn, the bugs... seem to be able to download copies of players with face scans from the community but you can't copy them yourself in the game. At least there's a workaround.

If you delete a side or player, sometimes you can't re-download it. That sucks.

Can't duplicate downloaded players. This is dumb. I'd like to, say, have Glen Jakovich in an AFL Legends side and also in a WA Legends side. Can't duplicate him. I can't even re-download him. If someone makes him again, I can download a different version. But that sucks. If I download a side that he is in and move him to a different side and then delete that first side, I maybe can re-download him. But I also maybe can't. I won't know until I delete said side. Such a gamble.

Guernseys, while numerous, are restrictive. Can only use them on custom sides. Seems stupidly restrictive that you can't add a custom guernsey to an in-game side. So many cool custom jumpers people are making that can't be used unless you want to make an entirely new custom side.

The guernsey creator, while having a fair selection, isn't as numerous as it appears. No option to change short colours seems shortsighted. Can't customise in-game guernseys is annoying. I get licensing plays a part but sometimes I think they're just overly restrictive.

As for the game, tbh it needs you to tweak the sliders. I've been tinkering and just finetuning as I go. Again, we shouldn't have to do this, but at least it is there to customise as needed. And I've had some great matches against the AI. The real value is multiplayer. I don't do online, as I imagine that'll get old fast. I play my 11yo and we've had some great games. I try to share all the little tidbits I learn so he can improve with me as well. Encourage him to play possession football (he's impatient and just wants to bomb long and mark). Use the kick modifiers. Only use certain buttons at certain times. I love the triangle hack kick so much... pretty much restrict myself to it in the forward line when it's crowded and loose... often goes out of bounds but sometimes I jag a goal. Makes the game more realistic.

I reckon a lot of people just want to kick/mark and expect the game to be good as a result. It's a complex game and you need to actually train youself to play it properly, rather than play it as a video game to win. Those who are getting the most out of it are exploring its features and customisation. Those who pan it seem to be pick up and play complaints. Just the way it appears to me, is all. Each to their own, and yep, there's a HEAP of bugs, but there's still a fun game to be had in there. Just requires a bit of user effort.
All well and good to say the fun is in explaining the customisation but the customising in mainly aesthetic. The customisation for the actual gameplay is bare bones at best.

I'm enjoying it.

I'm also enjoying laughing at how bad it is.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

This is pretty much me. I'm still having fun, more so online against actual opponents, but the bugs are mindblowing.

The more you play, the more you laugh.

But it’s still fun.

I have a question for the more "seasoned" types on here. I've only ever played Career Mode on Evo 1 & 2, and even then just as a rookie because I basically just like playing the one player. My question is: If I play the coach career, do I have to play the whole team or can I just play as one of the players in the team and let the rest of the team do their own thing?

I know that I could actually just try and find out myself but I want to save some time.
I had a look in Coach Mode last night and couldn't find anywhere to only control one player.
When you go into Be a Pro, you have the option of selecting a listed player, rookie or coach. So if you just want to use one player you can select the first option but I don't think you can do it in coach mode.

Bit sus on the handful of accounts created recently just shit canning the game in this thread. Pretty poor effort.

Also BigAntStudios it's all well and good to say the game sucks and like posts about that narrative but no one here gives a **** about you telling us how you could do it better, we want a better game not a development team telling us how bad other ones are.
If you were so certain you could do better than your company has let fans down by not being compelling enough to keep the games rights. Don't really give a shit what the reason is either because if it's money you still seem to be certain you could do it better at the same cost anyway.

Tru Blu wanted AFL Live 2 done on the cheap. The number I believe was < $1 Million.

Big Ant, showing some integrity that they wanted to make something of relative quality, said it wasn't possible. So Tru Blu went with Wicked Witch.

Pretty simple. It's not a case of trying to let fans down. Letting fans down is putting out something absolutely awful (which AFL Live 2 was, Evo 2 is a bit better) knowing it'll still sell because it has the AFL branding.

So they are the big heroes because there wasn't enough money? But then they still critisize the competition knowing the budget restrictions on a game they refused to produce at that price because it wouldn't be good enough?

If the choice is between BigAnt making nothing and telling us about how they are moral heroes and between wicket witch actually making a ****ing game I'll take the game. Don't really give a shit about hearing about how things could be better with a company who ain't doing anything about it.

I reckon the Evo 2 code must look like my "Ps get degrees" Computer Science assignment efforts from over a decade ago :$

if (oval=optus && hometeam=westcoast) {
crowd=awayteam;
}

derp

if (hometeam=westcoast && awayteam=sydney){
play.freoheaveho.mp3
}

doublederp

if(firstruck=tiredaf && secondruck=tiredaf)
ruck=fu**itidunnobackpocketiguessthey'retallright?
}

:drunk:
WTF... If I hear the old heave ho... Then I'll heave up.

That's so wrong.

Your not into politics... ?

Simple game of points scoring.

Not sure anyone is claiming any heroes here.

AFL Evolution 2 is the Joe Biden of video games. Everyone knows it's not very good, but it'll still get sales because of the label attached, including by people who recognise that (e.g. myself).

I don't understand what point you think you're making
