Pretty sure Maxwell has a shield score of 280 odd.Head would have played a lot more shield games then Maxwell.

At North Sydney Oval sure…

Head is a better bat despite you thinking it’s some vendetta to keep Maxwell out of the side.

Yeah, that's pretty irrelevant considering his score was higher than either NSW innings.

It’s still at NSO which shouldn’t even host Shield games. It’s a joke it does. That’s been the only positive the last 12 months not having Shield cricket there

Who gives a damn where it was. He made 278. He nearly quadrupled the next best score and outscored all 11 bats from the opposition in both innings.

It's like saying Jason Gillespie's double ton "was only against Bangladesh". It's still a test double ton. Where it was and who it was against is irrelevant

You said Maxwell can not play a long innings and I do not care where it is,278 is a long innings even at NSO.Maxwell was very unlucky to be dropped from the test team in the first place and perhaps you are judging him on his T20 and 1 day form and really that is the only form we can judge him on these days.Chances of playing test cricket again just about zero but financially he must be doing well.

He wasn’t unlucky to be dropped like everyone around the time wasn’t consistent at all and was dropped. Consistency is everything in test cricket

So what about all the other in consistent players around him you mentioned.Year 2017 his last appearance as a test player on difficult batting wickets in India and Bangladash his scores 104,2,8,45,23,14,38,25*.Surely he should have been given a chance on Australian wickets in 17/18.Also one of the best fieldsman in the world and a handy spin bowler.

Hopefully someone steps up in the Shield, but we're not any closer to figuring out our top order. Warner and Khawaja is probably our best bet, and at this point I have more faith in Khawaja than Warner.

Hard to believe but Maxwell,s last shield game was Oct 18,2019.Reports say he still has ambitions of playing test cricket again but I think highly unlikely with all the T20 and 1 day cricket commitments he has.

based on that he isn't in the frame.

he has just turned 33 - could he have one last chance with tours to pakistan, sri lanka and india coming up ? afterall all of his test cricket has been on the sub continent.

he may even be worth taking as cover as a squad member as it will be hard to displace green if he is the real deal.

you'd think at this stage lyon/swepson/agar would be taken.

possible examples:
5.head 6.green 7.carey 8-11 either 2 quicks/2 spinners OR 3 quicks/1 spinner
5.green 6.maxwell 7.carey 8-11 either 2 quicks/2 spinners OR 3 quicks/1 spinner
5.green 6.carey 7.agar 8-11 either 2 quicks/2 spinners OR 3 quicks/1 spinner

I don't get the Maxwell talk, he's barely been a consistent performer in Australian colours at any level of cricket.

Probably unlucky not to play a home Test but I really don't think he's ever been in out top 6 pure batsmen and his spin would be useless on our pitches.

Unlucky to perhaps not get a go over someone like Mitch Marsh but I can't remember him ever knocking the door down for Test selection.

In other news, I hope they consider Khawaja over Harris. Seemed to have turned a corner against spin last time in the UAE and with tours of Asia coming up I'd prefer play as many people with SC experience as we can.

Harris is just a total dud, I'd honestly rather play 10 players plus a specialist sub fielder given he dropped a home series Ashes win over in England right after contributing **** all over multiple Tests with the bat.

Ussie has to play, he should be opening for QLD because he is the best choice outside Warner for opening. If not opening he should be picked before Wade and Head in the middle order, he is a far better player than either.

On the subject of Maxwell he had some great shield form in 18 from memory? Should have been picked then but wasn't so highly doubt it now. I find it amusing that people harp on about being able to play a long innings but none of our batsman outside of Smith, Marnus and Warner have been able to play a long innings. I would take a quick 35-65 from Maxwell over a painful 35-65 momentum killer from Wade or Head etc

If you do not think Maxwell has been consistent at T20 cricket for Australia then can you name some one that has.Important to remember he usually bats in the last 10 overs where it is basically hit out or get out.The important thing is his SR,if he faces 20 balls he usually makes 40 plus runs.Just look at the recent IPL where he made about 4 50,s in a row and I think his team won all games. Some interesting figures 30 innings or more for Australia in T20.Finch Av.37.47 SR 150.24,Maxwell Av.31.79 SR 158.93 and Warner Av.31.46 SR 139.73.As for SR Maxwell has the best for all countries with players that have batted 30 innings or more and has to usually bat in the last 10 overs.

It might be a logistical nightmare and be inconvenient as tickets have already been sold and it would also effect things like the BBL scheduling but starting the Ashes in Sydney might be a good option. The England players and family won't have to quarantine in Sydney on arrival.

Then they'd have to quarantine mid series if they still wanted to play in WA and SA

Did you pay the little extra to get the refundable option? If not, you’ll struggle to get a refund

I ticked that box last summer and still never got my refund for a BBL game I had to miss. They’ve never responded to my emails either!!!

I missed Boxing Day as well due to being crook but didn’t tick the box so didn’t even bother trying.
