Didn't the Crows have that cycling coach for a while?

Yes Charlie Walsh. I think he was just there to watch their cycling technique and pat them on the bum saying Good style lad.

Then tell the media how some of the players could compete in the Tour de France to get them fapping.

I'm probably getting a bit esoteric here, but I wonder if a really good coach in another sport could transfer to a football program. Obviously they would have to learn the specific tactics, but that's not out of reach.

Back in the day would a Pat Mickan or Jan Stirling have been able to transfer their coaching skills to football? Pat Mickan as I recall was keen for a long time to give it a try, and became a specialist skills coach with Adelaide for a while.

Sometimes a coach's person-management skills are so good they could potentially be brilliant leaders of sportspeople in different settings.
It could work at women's level which is still in it embryonic phase but I don't think it would work at AFL level.

Ric Charlesworth probably got the closest with Freo, but left because as a strong willed coach, he wanted to do more than what he was allowed to do, so he walked away, as he knew he wouldn't/couldn't go any further.

Charlesworth. That's the other one I was trying to remember.

Thanks. It was bugging the s**t out of me.

PORT ADELAIDE marquee signing Erin Phillips has been selected to take part in the AFL’s Women’s Coaching Acceleration Program.

Successful applicants will be employed by their AFL club for at least two-years between now and 2025 and will work toward achieving a level 3 AFL coaching accreditation. As part of the program, Phillips will be involved in a formal mentorship with Port Adelaide men’s head coach Ken Hinkley, who is also working closely with women’s head coach Lauren Arnell, to support her professional development. Port Adelaide Head of AFLW Juliet Haslam is pleased the club can support Phillips’s development.

AFL general manager women’s football Nicole Livingstone said the committee was impressed with all nine applications and the club's presentations. “Pleasingly, all nine senior AFL coaches were not only in attendance, but genuinely spoke about their desire to have women coaching in their AFL programs,” Livingstone said.

"Today's announcement is a major step towards the AFL's Women's Football Vision 2021-2030, where we want to see 50 per cent of AFLW senior coaching positions held by women."In season seven, Bec Goddard, Natalie Wood and Lauren Arnell will all hold senior coaching roles. "The Women's Coaching Acceleration program will expedite the development of the industry's best women coaches and increase the number of women in coaching roles across men's and women's programs."

I believe Erin's coaching wage and the other 8 women named today is paid by the AFL. Choco a couple of years ago was asked about AFLW and women coaches and Choco in a rather blunt way said said that you can't say women are the best people for the job, but then further expanded on it and said, but that's because they haven't been given opportunities in the past, so the best way to fix it is appoint an experienced male who has 2, 3 or 4 assistant female coaches, whose job is also to mentor and prepare the female assistants to take over after 3 or 4 seasons. Basically he was saying the club have to take affirmative action and train women up so they eventually take over. That's basically what the AFL is now doing.
