Analysis At what point is it the coaches?

Do you guys think getting James hird as an assistant would improve us?
Seriously think he’d do us good
he deserves another chance.

James Hird absolutely does not deserve another chance. I’m happy that he seems to be in a better place mentally now because it sounded like it got pretty scary a few years ago but he should never be allowed to return to coaching.

Aker has a great football mind. Just don't let him talk about anything other than football. To be safe don't let him talk to the players either, just have him talk to the other coaches and they'll relay it. And definitely don't let him talk to the media.
Interesting that he remains a good friend of Dale Morris. Dale credits Aker with extending his career due to diet recommendations.

Aker was sacked from an Ovens and Murray club..... I'd rather Ryan Gardner as an assistant coach.

MD suggested Matty Boyd back as an assistant, which I 110% agree with. I'd also like to get a number of PT development coaches with specialist knowledge (ie. how we had Cam Mooney and Matty Scarlett spend a day a week at the club when BMAC was around.)

Defensive coach: Matt Boyd
Mids Coach/Stoppages coaches: Joel Corey, Steven King
Forwards Coach: Someone new. Roughead would have been great. Steve Johnson? Adam Schneider?
VFL coach: Gia
Development: Rohan Smith, Dale Morris (PT)

In: Moyd, New Fowards coach, PT development coaches.
Out: Maddocks, Russell, Hansen

I would move on the three you mentioned plus king, he has been there for a long time and is currently the senior assistant apparently.

The people I would look at bringing in as assistants are Scott Burns, Matty Boyd, Dean Cox.

Have a structure like
Senior coach: Beveridge
Senior assistant/Forwards: Burns
Defensive coach: Boyd
Midfield/stoppages/Ruck: Corey and Cox
Development: Smith and Morris
VFL: Gia

Also whoever is our opposition analysis coach needs to go and needs replacing

The issue we will have is that the soft cap which covers coaching staff is reportedly going to be reduced which will make it harder to change coaches

We need a rejuvenation in the ranks and a major one so in a perfect world I think we go with something like this and I think it’s also realistic

Senior coach: Beveridge
Senior assistant/Forwards: Kingsley
Defensive coach: Corey
Midfield/stoppages/Ruck: Boyd and Hudson
Development: Morris and Johnson
VFL: Burke

Deer Park : Gia

Must move on - Gia, Smith, Hansen, Maple

Others coaches I’d be looking at in some role

Burns
Voss
Solomon
Lade
Hayes

When he admits he was part of deliberate cheating his redemption can start but that will never happen so he can stay in the wilderness where he belongs

I get we all want coaching changes but considering we’ve had to fire a few coaches already what makes you think we’re going to add new good assistants?

Would Tory Dickson make a good forward coach, or would we be better off getting someone from outside the Bulldogs bubble?
No. He couldn’t even explain clearly how his accurate technique worked when interviewed.

Even if he does turn out ok we have had too many in-club appointees to coaching positions. This inhibits our ability to improve through cross fertilisation of ideas and the importing of knowledge and experience from other clubs.

New coaches need to have spent significant time at other clubs.

Do you reckon Ross Lyon would come on as an assistant? I honestly think he'd have been the one to turn things around for us. Not sure if there would be a bit too much personality clash with him and Bev though.
If we could get him we should go for it. He's gotten St Kilda to multiple grand finals and actually had the best win percentage in St Kilda history as coach. Put that with a Bevo who has actually managed to get one of the no-hopers (us) to a granny and also win it.

Sorry to bump this one but did anyone hear Bonts wrap of Joel Corey during the medal count?
Simply cannot understand how he was let go.
You never know what goes on internally, but my biggest fear is he was let go because he was the one that challenged Bevo the most.

You get what you can afford

Sorry this excuse doesn’t rub with me

There are plenty of assistants out there now, they will take jobs for less than they used to.

We could have got rid of our VFLW team like the tigers did also.

The priority is and always should be the AFL team as without it the rest doesn’t happen anyway

Agree we need an annual assessment of all departments
Money could be found if they are inclined to make changes

I like the idea of a new experienced senior assistant / forwards coaching role. You would like to think the opportunity to come in and mould Naughton, JUH, Weightman, VDM (I think he’ll still play mostly forward in 2021/22) into a cohesive structure would be relatively appealing on the spectrum of assistant coaching roles and we could get someone decent.

Hard to judge without being in the inner sanction.

Hvae heard and worked with.during various coaching qualifications a few we have. They all add something.

Would like an external review given the current restrictions.

However in line with this thread not jsut the coaching and development but recruitment and trading need to improve.

I do find interesting the negativity on this forum.

We lost a final we should have won by 3 points. We are literally 2 to 3 players from a serious crack at another flag, yes another one, yet in this forum we are still so negative.

Whether it be an 2 meter Pete and a key back or small forward we are close and never underestimate a united front

The problem isn't our list though, Lachy.

We have had what should have been a top 4 or at least top 6 list every season since 2016. Our problem is the continued mediocre management of that list.

Not so bad that we bottom out, just bad enough that we continue to piss away promising seasons.

Over the 2019/20 preseason it was hard to see how we could fail to make the top 6 with the list we had, but we found a way.

We keep picking Luke's personal development projects, rather than our best 22.

We do it year after year. When will it stop?

We need to bring someone into the football department who will save Luke from himself.

I wouldn't mind seeing Monty back, he seems to have had a big impact at Port, and he was with us in 2016.
I doubt he would comeback or that Luke would have him but we need someone like him who will stand up at selection committee meetings and push back at some of the stupid s**t we see week after week, year after year.

If we got those extra players you suggest, chances are either we wouldn't pick them in the seniors, or alternatively would drop other deserving senior players to make sure we accommodate the development projects and still end up back where we started.
