Don't understand the McKernan love here, the only taps I've seen him win are always "defensive", always tries to tap back over his head meaning we are behind the eight ball immediately giving the opposition a straight run at the ball!!! The given with McKernan is he will undoubtedly give away more "clumsy" free kicks than any other ruckman in the AFL.
I.E. the more game time he plays = more frees against!!!

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane!!!

The only advantage I see in playing him for a stretch is maybe, just maybe, our coaching staff and supporters will finally come to the realisation he is a dud and the AFC can move him on and trade for someone that will have a decent impact!!

As Brown looks likely to play.

In: Crouch
Out: Petrenko

Too early to chop Jenkins.

Not saying he was bad, but I still think Shaw is the better long term player and looks better than Otten at this stage. Unfortunately for Otten I'm not sure that he can make the side in place of Reilly or what other small defender we pick (who I assume next game will be Tambling).

Shaw needs to string games together.
Both could play in the same team. Shaw has more speed and a decent kick he could play as a flanker.
Geelong did it with Milburn and Mackie as those sorts of players.

Could Otten play FB? Strength could be an issue, but he has a good spoil.

Truck was woefull. Needs to find form and dominate the SANFL for a few weeks.

Agreed. I dont think he would need to play Full Back. Talia would do that.
Otten would play on the lead up CHF which he is more then capable of.

Good point. In 2009 he was quite good at CHB when Bock was out.

The Issue would be when we play a team like Port who go with 2 KPF a Ruck and a second Ruck. Ie. Shulz Butcher Lobbe and Redden Even Westhoff as well.

Talia v Shulz
Otten v Resting Ruck
Shaw v Butcher????
Westhoff v Reilly????

Not that we would struggle against Port but trucks extra size does help against teams of theat mold.

Thank goodness for some common sense as for crying out allowed ,Smack has had ample opportunities and has bombed every time .
He has nothing to offer apart from frustrating supporters etc with feeble efforts.
And drugs are bad Mackay that was a top post covering Crows review and preview extremely well and even void of sarcasm.
Hopefully Sando and co realize that our team game and selections that worked well last year are exactly that -- LAST YEARS.

I was tempted to say leave Petrenko in and get Tambling and Riley into the side so we can actually harass and tackle, but then I thought we just need to harden the **** up.

We definitely need better tacklers. We certainly need more of Petrenko's hard-at-the-man style of play. The problem is we're not getting anything else from him. We don't just need guys that can tackle, we need guys who can win possession and use it well. Pets can't even get near it at the moment. I'd say Tambling and Riley can both win their share of the ball but there are serious questions as to whether they would use it to the teams advantage.

The rest of his game will come......Pets was still underdone, but forget disposals he had a profound "POSITIVE" impact on the game with 6 tackles and 4 kicks

Now .....Brown gets plaudits for his game of 3 kicks and 3 tackles as a defender
Ben Rutten ...2 kicks
Talia ....3 kicks

Now i am not saying (apart from Rutten) ...that these guys played badly ....but in the same vein neither am i saying Petrenko played badly ....Fairs Fair !!!

BTW Rutten started last season off just as badly .....seems to take longer these days to get into form

You are not comparing apples with apples though WW. One player is a forward and the other two are kpp defenders. There jobs should be to stop their players, Talia did that and Rutten to a lesser extent did.

If the only output we are expecting from Petrenko is tackles then we are wasting a position in the forward line. There are numerous small forwards in the league who tackle, get possessions and kick goals.

If Petrenko is underdone, he shouldn't be playing. Get him match fit in the SANFL. This was a selection error.

But Petrenko's game is as a defensive forward to slow down and pressure the ball out of the oppositions defense

He's doing that well .....and we have no other player with exception of Riley who could do that role
Small forwards have nights where they'll kick goals and others where they'll be zip ......gee davey had 3 kicks only for 3 goals and 2 of those were from our turnovers and not his good play

Just think all his great work is being overlooked by some in favor of marks, kicks and goals??

100% agree, I noticed a lot of times where he was all over the opposition's defenders to the point where he caused a poor disposal. I think you need someone up there who can cause turnovers.

Davey had 12 disposals, Petrenko 5. 3 goals to 1. You can't compare the two games.

Petrenko has been on a downhill slide since mid way through last year. He shouldn't be a lock especially if he is underdone.

I agree his season tapered off ...like a few others after a very long & hard campaign

But lets not judge him or anyone on last year ....that season is dead & buried

On his game on Friday ....he'll certainly be a lock for the game against Brisbane

Really? List them.

Can't see us going wit 3 talls or moving Johncock back to defence

Sadly you're probably right, although Sando has hinted that he could play an extra tall up forward and I thought I saw Stiffy in the defensive 50 late in the game...

The main reason I understood Johncock was shifted out of defense last year was because he was grossly unfit. Supposedly he's in the best shape he's been for years now, how about we put the gun back pocketer in the back pocket. We need someone like Johncock back in defense to create some drive, someone who is a cool head under pressure and can hit targets consistently.

Out: Wet weather

In: Kick it long

Don't think there needs to be wholesale changes at the moment, I mean the whole side played really bad, so bad that I'm not sure they could play at that level again. If Brown is out and Smith isn't back then bring in P Dog as we can use more tackling strength.

Really not a fan of bringing Tambling in, you can't have him and Hendo in the same team with their scattergun kicking, one or the other but not both.

Think the drop Jenkins calls are ridiculous, he isn't Tippett and he will still make a good player but wanting a 200cm player dropped after one game in the wet just doesn't make sense, Leroy will find his feet and contribute on the scoreboard.

Do believe we need more pace in the defensive 50 so hopefully Shaw can put some games together in the magoos and put his hand up for selection but maybe not next match.

Yeah, I don't think we'll see Petrenko dropped, 6 tackles and a goal, he's not too far off what I'd say is "par" for him, compared to a number who were well off what you'd class as a "par" performance. I think he suffered a lot due to the fact that we just couldn't work the footy past the half back flank for most of the night.

How does LJ keep flying under the radar? It frustrates me he doesn't get more games. A key forward who I would like to believe would work well with Tex. sigh.

Guys... Tambling? o_O

Agreed that calls to drop Jenkins are ridiculous, the blame lies with the coaching staff IMO for expecting that a 12 game "veteran" of the game could just walk into a side and play the role the Tippett did. It was a luxury that we could play Tippett as both our 2nd KPF and our 2nd ruck, Jenkins does not afford us such a luxury. At this stage he just isn't that good and its unrealistic to expect our forward line to function with just he and Walker on a consistent basis, especially when he has to ruck for 20-30% of the game.

IMO we need to bring in another tall to help us replace what we lost in Kurt Tippett, whether that's McKernan to assist in the ruck or Johnston/Lynch as a medium forward I'm not fussed, but it is required IMO. Hawthorn boast the best key forward combo in the AFL, yet they still see the benefits to playing Jack Gunston. Sydney play 2 ruckman, plus Goodes, Reid and often LRT up forward. Far too much responsibility on Walker, who turns merely 23 tomorrow and a guy with 12 games and only recently started playing the game.

Would love to see him given a run and not just a token "dominate or you're back in the SANFL" game, a decent 5 game run to settle and see what he can actually offer us. He's natural forward, who is quick, agile a solid set of hands and rivals Walker in foot skills.

Posted some nice stats in his sanfl trial game this week end. Such a shame he returned 1.3 on the scoreboard.3.1 and it had the look of a best afield display.
