This is an important point. Johncock's best football has and always will be, as a defender. It seems the selectors disagree and he's now just fat that needs to be cut from the forward line. And he will be, because he doesn't offer as much up there as some others.

Ps - what about Tambo?!

Well.... Bling is my favourite player hence i find it difficult to be objective ... but he definitely would be in my side.... offers pace, run, carry, hard at the ball and knows how to tackle

Yeah, all those on the outer had ripping finals series and sublime seasons last year... some people need to just log out of BF and wait for the game to come, take your frustration out on booze or something.
What an utterly redundant post.

Sorry, I thought we were logged onto a football discussion website? Are we not allowed to share ideas and opinions be it positive and negative? Do I have to wait for a game day thread and add some bland commentary whilst watching the game?

There's a reason Crows supporters are frustrated over selection. We see other teams who finished around us last year improving their sides, making tough calls on declining or out of form players and introducing young talent into their system. Meanwhile Adelaide treads water by dropping their 30 year old veteran for their underdone 30 year old who failed in all 3 finals. If I and other fans have concerns about the team of course we'll share it on here. Don't tell me to drink booze instead wtf, gtfo.

Good call on Stiffy by the coaching staff imo. He became ineffectual in defense a while back and you could see it was terminal. As a forward he has repeatedly coughed up set shots and not done enough at important stages to justify the spot. His goose is nearly cooked.

Didnt think it would come this week, one of my favourite players too, but could see last week he may be in trouble. Got a lot of the ball, but did not capitalise on his chances. Is probably the most "like for like" player to drop out for Nutter given he is no longer part of our backline.

I can't see Brodie Martin ever being a full time AFL player with us.

Hope that Crouch is not the sub, would like to see Vince get that role.

In a game we lost by 35 points. And he kicked a solitary goal. He's had that terminal, slowing look about him for a season now, I've been worried, really thought he would retire last year. Not surprised they've put the acid on him, even if as you rightly point out, he wasn't our worst last week.
Still offers 1,000% more than Jaennsch both now and into the future!!!

Sam Shaw injured again, looking like Otten will get a serious chance to show his stuff.
I really hope he grabs this chance and proves his doubters wrong. He might not be as mobile as Shaw, but he makes up for that with a much better disposal and ability to read the play.

I love Nutter as a footballer. He's clever and damn skillful. BUT he's just not up to it at AFL level. Watch last year's AFL final series and our games against good opposition. He was a liability. He's too small, slow, doesn't tackle enough and doesn't get enough of the ball. We can't keep carrying all of these inconsistent small forwards who each have one strength but multiple weaknesses. Would much rather a tackling machine, bull-type player like Riley who can play up forward and relieve in the midfield.

I'm probably in a minority here but I'm a fan of Martin. He's got something our side lacks which is run and dash. Would like to see him given a run of non-sub affected games on a HFF/Wing to see how he settles.

We are god damn awful once the ball hits the ground in the backlines, I cannot believe Stiffy has nothing to offer there.

These selections reek of Craig

As for Petrenko I guess the less you get of the ball the less mistakes you make. Also gives you more chance to tackle being 2nd to the ball. Truly a mind numbing decision as to why he remains in the side. Clearly though if he keeps his tackle stats on par with his possession stats then it means he keeps his place.

Callinan may end up with 5 touches only also, but he is a chance to kick 4 goals

Question, if Taylor Walker was underdone, would he come straight into the team?

Yes, because he has a glorious, glorious mullet. :p

I think this side has an excellent record for not losibg 2 games in a row, and its this record which fuels Sandos faith in the group and a reluctance to make changes after one loss. It's almost a team gold pass rather than individual gold passes.

With that record you have to back in selection. 2 losses in a row and the pressure is on.

Whole season.

Really besides the Hawks game. Most of our team didnt show up for finals. No need to pick on Callinan alone.
That's not true. We had a couple who contributed in all 3, some in only 2, some in only 1 but some in none. Callinan falls into the latter and I'm not picking on him. I don't believe he's a walk up start that gets a game with limited match fitness.

Callinan 4 goals last year at the Gabba. Horses for courses. Stiffy has obviously been stamped as a forward only. I actually would pick Callinan over Stiffy in that case. I hope he is fully fit though.

After his abysmal finals series he should be a depth player, not an automatic inclusion.

i'm really dissappointed Martin has been dropped. maybe it's my double blue coloured glasses but he always seems to have a positive impact with the very limited chances he gets. he seems to be earmarked as our best sub player, then that costs him the following week because he needs match fitness.

this week, i'd have him in the side in front of Jeansch, Johncock and Callinan. (any other week Douglas but i'll concede he was ok last week)

while many here are angry with Johncock being dropped, there were a stack of people that had him in the gun for retirement or delisting last season. i'm not saying it's the same people now defending him, and i'm not going back to check. The point is he's borderline now, and he's been dropped. it's really not that surprising.

what is surprising is that he's been dropped for the only bloke on our list with less room for improvement.

Martin is really hard done by as well - as an attacking wing/HFF he's got weapons and deserves an extended run. Drop Vince or someone to give him a go.

Callinan will probably have a good year than go completely missing if we make the finals. He was also one of our worst three tacklers last year!

Petrenko and Jaensch both incredibly lucky. Bring Kerridge or Tambling to play that role - they'll get just as many tackles, and they might actually be dangerous enough to force the opposition to bother manning them up.

Meh.

I had concerns with our selections for most of last year - I still believe it undoubtedly cost us a grand final spot last year.

Only round 2, but if this is the direction we're going in, again, I'll be extremely disappointed.
