No I'm not playing devils advocate. IMO Connors was poor yesterday and with Moore Thursfield coming back he would have to be under some pressure to hold his spot even though he had played well the previous 2 weeks.

Yes its about zoning and rebounding, but when your opponent has kicked 2 of the first 3 goals and 3 in the first quarter and a half you need to play man on man for a while and forget about kick chasing which is what Connors kept on trying to do. If he wants to truly become a very good player then he needs to realise that sometimes you need to sacrifice your natural game for the good of the team.

So as long as he gets 30 odd touches most weeks and gets torn a new one every know and then its ok and he doesn't need anymore development. Connors has been good in his rebounding role, my point is he'll be better when he learns when to go and when to stay and the sooner he learns that lesson the better.

i think we just agree to disagree, i think the two in bold will not not take his place, in actual fact it will enhance it, we are on the wrong page here, if it were 2 weeks ago with Thursty, Moore, Cotch and Jackson playing then id say yeah thats poor by connors if we got smashed and it was his man that he lost and had 3 goals kick early, but yesterday Delidio was tagged out of it, Newman has his hands full so where was the drive going to come from and the whole idea about Zoning is six Backs play regulary together to zone space and cover each others man and Connors, Newman,Delidio, Thursfeild, Moore Astbury and Farmer have done that well in the last 6 to 8 weeks, it was just to hard yesterday when the ball was like a flood in our defence.

i think we wait and see when the side is selected though i beleive Connors is safe.

You're probably right in that Connors will be safe, as Hardwick loves him, all I'm doing is voicing my opinion on what I saw yesterday.

Andrew Browne might be the worst player I have ever seen play for Richmond.

OUT: ANDREW BROWNE

IN: WAYNE THORNBORROW

Dunno about the worst Tiger ever but gee his effort on Saturday was ordinary.

Now, I don't get to see any Coburg games but by all reports he had been rolling along well with a couple of really strong games so I was looking forward to seeing how he went.

FFS, that was a rubbish game by the big dog. His efforts at ruck-work in the centre were just embarrassing, not to mention costly with the regular free kicks to Jolly because he was just going in with his knee cocked.
Around the ground he looked slow & unco & unlikely to make it to any contests at all.

Vickery has copped some flack around the traps and fair enough too in some cases but he shits all over Browne IMO.

I'm not normally the type to jump into our young players but I will be astounded if Browne 'makes it'. For a developing young ruckman he looks to have zero technique & I'm battling to find any attribute he actually brings to the table.

Sorry, but when the commentators said he reminded them of Crackers Keenan that just about did it for me!!!!

:DWayne Thornborrow ... who could ever forget!!

In all seriousness, it goes to show that either recruiting an emerging out of contract ruckman or drafting another one is a high priority.
Serious doubts over Vickery and Browne appears a long way off it given Saturday's game was no better than his first, 16 months apart.
Vickery's poor form left us wth no option but to play Browne.

Outs: Nahas, Polo, Browne
In: Jackson, Taylor, White

Hopefully Taylor and White add some much needed pace and excitment.

Browne will not be dropped. He's been dominating the VFL, and he comes up for (essentially) his first game, and you want to send him back already? Give him the rest of the year to develop to AFL level. He's not going to learn much more at VFL level, having already beaten the ruck combinations of Fraser/Wood, Roughead/Cordy, and even Hampson/Warnock.

Gee, we really do eat our own.

Nah, Jeremy Humm was the worst. He only played one game for us in the end, at Subiaco IIRC. He was absolutely useless for WC but Wallace in his infinite wisdom decided to put him on the rookie list. :thumbsd:

Agreed. Would give more games. He was in and straight out last year, he's been in the best form out of anyone at Coburg by all reports beating quality opponents. I thought people were ridiculous calling Vickery a spud in only his 2nd year still 10-15kg undersized, now we have people calling Browne a spud only after his 2nd game. Looked off the pace for sure but please get realistic. Beanpole rookie ruckman. I remember all and sundry calling Sandilands a spud when he first started out. Was apparently very tall, slow, cumbersome and couldn't do much at all.

Been thinking about the changes for this week and this is what I've come up with:

Ins: Gourdis Moore Jackson White
Outs: Polo Nahas Collins Martin

Line Up:

B: Moore McGuane Newman
HB: Connors Astbury Deledio
C: Edwards Jackson Morton
HF: Nason Post Cousins
F: White Riewoldt Gourdis
R: Graham Tuck King
I/C: Browne Webberley Farmer Rance

Against the Crows we're going to need some harder bodies, so I've brought in Moore Gourdis & Jackson who all have mature bodies, White comes in to add a bit more pace as well and he has a stronger body than Nahas. I'd like to see Post play the lead up CHF role that Griffiths was playing and have Gourdis sit in the square with Jack, with Goo playing the leading FF and Jack sitting back in the square as the long option.

Down back Astbury has looked quite comfortable at CHB so he stays there with Deledio and Connors on either side. Newman to revert back to the generals role from the back pocket, while Moore comes in to provide some added KP strength.

Edwards and Morton play the linking wingers role in the middle getting the ball fed out by Tuck and Jackson, King to play a run with role on someone like Thompson. White starts forward but plays the defensive forward role on Goodwin(if he is back from injury).

Browne gets another week as it was a bit hard to judge him when the side is getting belted. Rance provides flexibility in that he can go back or forward as needed. Webberley and Farmer provide the run off the bench.

Before everyone jumps up and down about Martin, Hardwick said a few weeks back that Martin would be having another rest in the second half of the year. With that in mind I'd give him this week off and then have him line up for the last 4 games of the season.

He wasn't a ruckman though. Way to ruin my joke.

We've had quite a cavalcade of dud ruckmen in our time!

Robert Schaeffer was hopeless, Brad Smith, the 'gloved one' Adam Slater... And who could forget premiership hero Ben Marsh!

The worst player ever surely has to be Michael Laffy. He was diabolical.

Let them call them spuds, and then when they jump on the bandwagon remind them and make them look like f**kwits

All Good. Keep Martin in though. You said we needed harder bodies. White stays out.

Sorry to intrude, but Jackson got 3 weeks. Because IIRC, he challenged and lost, losing the right to an early guilty plea. And on Martin, I would of thought you'd need all your best players available out there this week, we aren't exactly a shit side that you can afford to rest players against.
