Averages, averages.
Cotchin has been disappointing this year. Connors is ahead of him.
Don't focus on the averages tugga, focus on how they are being achieved. One bloke is training 1 day a week while the other is pretty much doing full training. Given that Cotchin is comfortably ahead of Connors for mine.

Fairt enough. I still reckon Cotchin's output has been below what I expected.

Given him a taste of it, has alot of work to do, bring vickery back in imo
Read below. And 'a taste' is not what we want. We want them to KNOW what they have to get to.
So after the outcry of "play the kids" we all want Post to be dropped after one game? One smashing?
Sounds like Wallace, bring him in for a game, get rid of him the week after.

Keep the young guys in for 3/4 weeks at a time so they can find their feet and see what they need to work on. Post and Browne will/should stay in for the next month...hopefully

Long term thinking.

There is an old saying in footy and that is you're only as good as your last game and today Connors was amongst my 3 worst players. With Jackson Tambling Moore Thursfield all a chance to come back in next week, Connors would have to be under some pressure, given he isn't exactly established in the 22 just now.

Cant agree with this sentiment. He has had some awesome games and really has reinvented himself and deserves more grace than just one poor game.

Outs:
Polo - papers were stamped today IMO.
Nahas - just too small too easily brushed aside
Connors - needs to learn how to play defensively first before he worries about getting a kick.

Ins:
Will update after Coburg plays tomorrow.

Polo i agree nahas i agee, but Connors if you had your way would be an alcoholic again by thursday night. i mean really thats showing the young boy alot, well done boy served your penence turned your life around, almost best on in every game since returning but you played a game that lacked a defensive pressure while we picked the youngest side for the round against the flag favourite with out our arguably three best Mids in Foley cotchin and Jackson, oh thats right also our best two tall defenders as well.

oh please excuse tucky he just turned it over all day and lukey who against used a lack of brains and fumbled all day.

I mean Really!!

OUT: Nahas Polo Macgaune Webborly(Tuck Maybe instead) Browne

In: Jackson white Gouridis Thursfeild Moore

Post will play second ruck, he played in the last quarter there and i believe the club want him to play a L. Brown type role.

DH has already stated that Post gouridis will play at least 3 to 4 games before the season is over.

The first rule of playing backline is to ensure that your opponent has as little impact on the game as possible, not get as many possessions as you can while your opponent also kicks goals. That wasn't happening yesterday and sending him back to Coburg for a week or 2 will reinforce that. If he can't handle being made accountable for a poor game and has to turn to the bottle to deal with it, then you really have to ask has he turned his life around at all.

You must be playing Devils advocate on this RT.Hes had ONE poor game.
Because if you are not you are clueless.

Really ??
Been the first tagged most weeks and at the start of the year if someone told me he wouldn't miss a game up to this stage due to injury I'd have had difficulty believing them.
Disposals ain't everything !

We missed midfielders yesterday so there's not much we can do about it apart from adding Jackson. Our defence did as well as they could considering the amount of ball coming their way. Our forward line is where we have to make the change and our lack of small forwards is the problem. Nahas isn't good enough and really should be delisted. I'd love to see Taylor back and maybe bring in Hicks. We'll have 2 small forwards now compared to none yesterday ;)

Out: Nahas, Collins(rest), Polo?(he may have to make way for Jacko)
In: Taylor, Jackson, Hicks

Why would you drop Post. It was his first game back and we played the best team in the afl currently. He should be left in for the rest of the season to get his confidence up and start taking marks and kicking goals.
We can't afford to have short skinny players in the team. Nason and Edwards need to get on the weights this preseason

I believe when Didak really hurt us he was playing on Newman.

King initially lined up on Ball, had a crack at Swan at one stage and probably Pendlebury as well. To be fair to the midget, it was a case of shuffling the chairs on the Titanic today, so you can put your King bashing away for this weekend as he was far from the worse out there today.

Barnzy bagging king.....who would have thought.....

but nahas polo and browne out for me

i dont really want webborly out, more about team balance id prefer tuck out but we need strength around the ball while Cotch is out and until foley's back, next year if foley is fit and we keep cousins there is no room for Tuck but Webborly has a future for how long thats up to him, but he needs to develop when our side is in a lot better shape yesterday week side side is not for development for players like post etc when they are finding there way in the afl.

Oh connors is a huge talent compared to Webb and was suspended for 8 weeks then we have to dropp him because our lack DEFENSIVE BY PRESSURE Because our undermanned mids couldnt stop the flow of ball going to our backline and 1 bad game.

2 different stories and read my post properly it was more about connors and remarkable turn around and the effect it could have on him and inevitable to the RFC.

I agree Tug ... Cotchin disappointing!!

As a top three pick, Deledio and Martin (in one season) have been way more productive and influential!!!

As for Connors being dropped .. some seriously deluded people here. Cotchin was crap v the Roos .. do we drop him after one bad game???? First poor game for Connors in about six weeks!!!

In the modern Era its about Zoning and rebounding and as a springboard to attack from defence, it doesnt help that for when we were winning we had Jackson and Cotchin applying clearence's and defensive pressue up feild and Thursfeild and MOORE and who also play small and cover each other when we attack from defence and white tagging from our forward line yesterday when almost a quarter of yr side is out.

And finally if you think that our coaching staff havent seen flaws in his game and havent addressed when playing in the twos and then picking him in the seniors then yr kidding yourself. He wouldnt of got a picked if they beleived in what you were saying, its the modern game.

Season is over, Hardwick now needs to experiment more and must play the kids at all costs. Connors, Browne and Post must continue to play.

Must think long term instead of the result next game.

On this years performances i would have Connors ahead of Cotch easy.

That is one of the most ridiculous things ive ever read

Surely even part time watchers cant seriously suggest theyd take a bloke who missed 8 games through club suspension comes back and plays unaccountable back flank footy (although does it well)

Against a bloke who every club reconise as our best midfielder assigned the number one tag every week and still has been our best full time midfielder this year

Cmmmmmon

I can't understand the sense of comparing Cotchin and Connors. (Both excellent up and coming players who have completely different roles.)

As for bagging Connors for his game yesterday, is it really surprising that an attacking half-back flanker was made to look ordinary when our defensive structure fell apart? (Or is it being suggested he was responsible for that?!)

The really interesting question for me is what philosophical approach Dimma takes to another game against a strong-bodied extremely disciplined team next week. Will he shore up our experience and strength and drop Post and Browne, or will he abide by the approach he seems to have adopted for most of the year - giving the newbies at least a couple of games before making the call?

I'm tipping Jacko and Hicks in, Polo and Nahas out.

I can't believe people potting Cotchin. He's our No. 1 clearance player, copping a tag each week, in the Top 10 in the league for clearances, all this with no preseason, and yet he's been disappointing?

His outside work hasn't been as good, but that's because of the gameplan. He's been instructed to bomb it long when he's not a great long kick, but is a deadly accurate 30 m pass on both feet. As the coaches learn and improve our structures and how they use our players he will get better and better.

No I'm not playing devils advocate. IMO Connors was poor yesterday and with Moore Thursfield coming back he would have to be under some pressure to hold his spot even though he had played well the previous 2 weeks.

Yes its about zoning and rebounding, but when your opponent has kicked 2 of the first 3 goals and 3 in the first quarter and a half you need to play man on man for a while and forget about kick chasing which is what Connors kept on trying to do. If he wants to truly become a very good player then he needs to realise that sometimes you need to sacrifice your natural game for the good of the team.

And finally if you think that our coaching staff havent seen flaws in his game and havent addressed when playing in the twos and then picking him in the seniors then yr kidding yourself. He wouldnt of got a picked if they beleived in what you were saying, its the modern game.
So as long as he gets 30 odd touches most weeks and gets torn a new one every know and then its ok and he doesn't need anymore development. Connors has been good in his rebounding role, my point is he'll be better when he learns when to go and when to stay and the sooner he learns that lesson the better.
