Being a Jed Head is better than being an Orazio Bro or whatever the equivalent is because Jed Heads actually get to see their man play games of football sometimes.
Ironically if Jed couldn't get on the park due to persistent injuries it would actually make our side better because we'd stop wasting a spot on him every week.

As far as I'm concerned the KPIs in order of importance are

1. 100 minutes on the ground
2.100 contests
3. Hold Obrien to his ave of 30% hit outs to advantage.
4. Win more than 30% hit outs to advantage.

I will back Hayes in the KPI I'm least concerned about.
When your first two KPI's don't have the slightest thing to do with football ability or impact whatsoever, you might want to consider changing your KPI's. By your logic we could bring in a Kenyan marathon runner who's never seen a football before and he'd be a better option than Teakle.

You'd play the Kenyan marathon runner over McEntee.

I’ve been as big a critic of McEntee as anyone but he’s massively improved this year and has played his role most weeks.

Not best 22, but becoming handy depth.

I do wonder if we could play two genuine ruckmen, Collingwood do it and neither is used much as a forward.

With our list that would be yet another passenger. We would be carrying more passengers than a Ford Fairlane. We are struggling to find one genuine fit ruckman so I am not sure where the second one is coming from.

If we had two viable tall options I could see merit in the argument but we don't. Most of the second ruck options around the AFL can take a mark up forward or in defence if needed. Collingwood may not have used Mason Cox forward last night but over the season he has taken an average of 4 marks a game, kicked 15 goals and had 14 hit outs per game. Those figures are better than a certain spud small forward that Hinkley insists on selecting week after week.

With all players fit our rivals in Melbourne, Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon and Brisbane all have a two ruck option if they choose to use it. That second ruckman often proves useful up forward or marking around the ground.

Farrell should be nervous this week, to laconic in the last marking contest and based Collingwood 2 frees inside 50 both ending up in goals.

Can I suggest people watch the SANFL game before coming to any conclusions?

Starts in 14 minutes.

Unfortunately there is an element of “we are what we are” and we shouldn’t be making wholesale changes.

I would be tinkering around the edges like dropping mcentee for Fantasia.

But I certainly wouldn’t be replacing wines with Jackson lol

Hayes does the least amount of running of any player on the field, but also looks the most stuffed and plays the least gametime. Give it up, hes done.

Witts is like-for-like but played 20% more gametime. lol.

Witts is one of the established premier ruckmen of the competition. Also he's not on our list and not available for selection for us.

Hayes gets involved in a higher percentage of ruck contests than Lycett or Teakle, that's statistical fact. He also wins more hitouts and gets more of them to our mids. The increasingly ridiculous knock on him is that he doesn't do enough outside of the stoppages.

You can not honestly have watched any of Teakle's games this year or Lycett's last fortnight and tell me that they're doing more than Hayes. We're allowing opposition ruckmen to absolutely annihilate us at the stoppages for no gain around the ground.

Darcy Cameron and Tom De Koning just had the best games of their careers against us. Witts had a fairly standard game for him against Hayes. Imagine if we'd gotten another 15 games at AFL level into Hayes instead of him having to face Witts having been stranded in an SANFL forward pocket for a season.

Yes but we are reminded every week these stats mean nothing when somone gets 60 hitouts in a loss.

Our only good quarter against GC was the 3rd, when Dixon led the ruck and Hayes spent the most time on the bench.
Lycett 'lost' the ruck contests yesterday but that didn't stop JHF, Butters, Rozee and Drew from playing great games.
JHFs best clearance game was against the Saints with Teakle in the ruck.

Ruck contests are mostly just a mess with no clear winner or loser. You need to add more to be a good AFL player.

You sir are a hater.

Hayes still brings more than any ruck we have. People can complain about his ground work but wtf does Lycett or Teakle do?

And as is consistently pointed out to apparently deaf ears, none of our available ruck options do that. May as well play the one who's good in the ruck contests and shit around the ground over the ones who are shit in ruck contests and shit around the ground.

Lycett has won a Premiership and has played high quality games against Melbourne, Geelong, Bulldogs and Brisbane this year. lol.
And the others he’s been a liability “lol”. Did he win that premiership with us? No.

Funny how Lycetts pass is just being average (sometimes) while Hayes has to be perfect to get some respect.
