After last week ......Crouch was always getting another game .....not sure why people are surprised

I'm also not surprised Cook is going back to the SANFL ......but very happy with Keane, and Max back .....and Schoenberg retained for his pace, to match it with Butters / Rozee

And have waited all week to have another look at Nankervis

I couldnt give a fxxk if crouch got 50 posessions, 10 clearances, 15 goal assists and kicked 5 goals in some freakish one off best game of his life..

He still should not be fxxkn playing this week..

He shouldve come in last week to cover Laird and gone out the second Laird returned.

Then been delisted at seasons end.

Now.. we’ll play him every game for the rest of the season and sign him up for another year.

And he will continue to be the same unflushable, list clogging garbage he has been for a few years now..

The AFC not being able to make tough calls with an eye to development is why we are 27 years down the track without another flag.

We might win, but it will be despite a completely sub standard midfield, somehow in the midst of a rebuild, we've got worse.

My views on Sloane are also well documented ....but I also advocated last year, his days in the midfield are over

Now, that said .....we are correctly trying to win games ....it is critical to the messaging from Nicks, that the players believe that too
After 4 years .....it's selection on merit, building connectivity & chemistry within the team ......that's far more valuable than experimenting .....and that's what some want

Remember, we viewed Cook on stats, and a few nice things with ball in hand ......I really don't think many from their lounge chair, can view his defensive efforts & positioning

Cook defensive efforts should not be why dropped when we have Crouch in team and Milera in defence , not mentioning old damaged legs that can't get there to create defensive pressure .
Hell the kid has more talent in his big toe than Murphy and McHenry and performed well after couple dodgy moments early.
Right through all postings on all parts of crows big footy I read how badly we need mids , but when have we given the talented young players a real go.
How good would it bet to see a mix of Soligo , Pedlar ,Schoenberg and Berry teamed up with Laird with bursts of Rachelle and Dawson when needed but played on wing where believe where could be more damaging and less man handled for rest of year to actually find out who can become the mids we want.
Instead we will have Crouch a injured Laird , a slow moving slow thinking Sloane and Kamikaze Keays with Murphy thrown in for luck .
Boy I am looking forward to this showdown .

That's the biggest load of horseshit I've ever read from you, which says a lot, because you've produced quite a bit of it over the journey.

The messaging is that Nicks doesn't trust the younger players. Pure and simple. So if you talk about him trying to build a winning culture, what he's effectively saying is that the kids aren't able to produce that.

I don't mind the selections.

Keane debut is a tick. As I posted the other day, only 2 debuts for the season for a rebuilding team is a bit low so this is good. Couple more before the end of the season would be good. Borlase has been good I thought in the SANFL, somewhat surprised Keane got the nod but I assume its a size strength thing more than anything and Borlase should get a go soon.

I actually thought Crouch had a claim to be our second best mid last week. Dawson and Sloane were pissing me off. I know Crouch has been asked to work on getting the ball on by foot rather than by hand and he hasn't seemed to have adjusted much when I watched his SANFL but in this game he was the best out of him /Dawson and Sloane. Dawson and Sloane (yes I've seen the ratio of kicking to handpassing, still think I'm right) took to long, did extra unwarranted disposals whereas, when he had even half a chance and when it made sense, like from a center break or a fast play, not a slow play, Crouch just banged it forward and more often than not it worked out as good if not better than the faffing about efforts. That said, the club said last year he and Laird are both accumulator players and they couldn't have both in the same team. They better hope we have massive ruck dominance or we're gonna be in trouble.

Which brings me to the ruck contest. Lycett out helps. Hopefully ROB has skilled up on how to beat ruckmen he can easily beat (like Silvagni) and the coaches get us to play an attacking setup at times, that should nullify Ports mids speed to an extent. That plus when we are not attacking if we can force it to the contest we should be able to gain superiority there, remembering port are pretty smart with this and will play a knock on Richmond style game to try and open it back up if they can. Twists and turns. Should be a good game for these reasons, to see whose tactics win out.

Great that Nank stays in.

Thought Cook was unlucky to be omitted. He and Nank both ended up with 16 disposals to be equal 5th highest disposal getters for us (though there were lot of equal second, third and fourth highest getters). Did some great kicks.

I am worried about Schoenbergs consistency and ability of opposition to get under his skin. Port are really gonna try this. Be good for him to put together a second good game this week whilst some of our other mid options are absent or battle weary. That's another plus for Crouch, should be pretty fresh after a season in the SANFL rather than crashing in at AFL, hopefully compensating for a few of our tiring players.

Soligo damn unluck to miss out.

It’s amazing that you post this and that your thoughts are your own in the one night.

All you’ve done is frame an argument to support Nicks again.

Trying to win games doesn’t mean you need to pick out of form senior players and other duds like Murphy. Does Sloane slow ball movement and fumbles help us “try and win”. How about reverting to a midfield that failed in the past to “try and win”.

Murphy dropped, plays and average game and is now considered a player needed to “try and win” even though McHenry was picked ahead of him and only dropped out due to illness.

2 weeks ago Nicks didn’t have Nankervis in the side he picked to “try and win”. Now Nankervis after fluking being picked, is now considered a player to help us “try and win”.

How Soligo doesn’t get a game after being rested and dominating in a game when he also had crook guts, is crazy.

Facts are Nicks despite some positives has shit for brains when it comes to team selection, there are just too many examples now not to question his judgement. But hey you won’t

This leaves just a couple of midfield spots (one in the center square, maybe a few others around the ground) for everyone else and severely limits our ability to rotate players through the midfield.

It means that guys like Schoenberg will be played out of position. It means Dawson is likely to spend some stints at half back. It means Pedlar won't get a look in. And that's not even factoring in what we do with Sloane and Keays, if they're getting midfield time too it's even worse
