I know many on here don’t rate Kelly high fly, but I reckon losing him last night messed up our defensive structure and forced Doedee into more of a lockdown role.
I had Kelly as an out as injured.

However, we also need to get the balance of our defence right. Need to have enough quality ball user options as well as lockdown types.

Poholke and Gallucci are 21 and we have absolutely no idea what they can actually do in the AFL.

Poholke is one of the very few who has played at a top level consistently in the SANFL, Gallucci had shown bursts of excellence amidst long periods of nothing or being out of position.
We do know what they have to offer at AFL level - very little.

Dots has played well in the SANFL, but that's his level. He's the next Mitch Grigg. He just doesn't look like it at AFL level.

Gooch was openly criticised by Godden, earlier in the year, for his lack of consistency. He has a mountain to climb before the selectors will (or should) even think of naming him in the senior team.

The time has come to cull the dead wood, and unfortunately that 2016 draft class is a complete write off. Time to focus on players who may have a future at AFL level - and I'd be starting with Schoenberg & O'Connor.

I thinking Harto in for Kelly. McAsey just needs to play along side some bigger bodied players. IMO he plays every match.

But then we've got Harto, Talia and McAsey as key talls with Doedee a medium tall. Getting scored against isn't just about bad players in the back half, it's also about the volume of opportunities that you give the opposition to push into their 50. In my opinion, before we worry about how defensively poor we are, let's look at how we can reduce the amount of pressure that they're under. That's a midfield issue and a rebound 50 issue. We need to be better in both areas, but bringing in Harto for Kelly is more of the same on the latter.

But, I will say that Harto is up for having a crack at pinpointing passes and attacking by foot. It's just that he sometimes bites off more than he can chew. I don't think we need more aerial power, we need gun legs that can defend a bit, like Sholl or Hamill.

I think we should play Butts instead of Kelly in that structure.

McAsey was hung out to dry and looks like a player who is trying his hardest in a team with virtually zero structure or system.

Adding another genuine tall could help him out a lot. Kelly just isn't the player you want in order to shift McAsey into a third tall role

All these knee jerk reactions. The last night was expected. I expect Port to be pushing for the flag this year. People need to remember the crows will not play finals as it’s a transitioning year however they need the right balance of experience and non experience players. Some of these experience players will not be in the next crows flag however have a significant factor in mentoring players through afl games. Play to many rookies it become bruise free footy and becomes a habit. No young player should play because they are young and give him ago.

Crows have some high end talent which should be playing every week along with experienced players. Such are Jones, McHenry, Schoenberg, Fogerty, McAsey, McPherson, Sholl, Stengle and Butts. Firstly they need to develop a new style of play that fits the current group and not of 3 years ago, this questions Lynch value to the team. In a top 8 team he would be valuable hence he needs to be traded this year. Experience players who dis not play last night. I would play Gibbs and not Mackay and hartigan. Gibbs would have been handy on the wing, half forward and half back as a role player.

So changes from last nights team, I would move tex to deep forward, Sloane onto the wing and Brouch rotating through mid, wing and half forward. Then I would use fog in the guts as well but only occasionally as his fitness will improve. And remember roo did not have express speed either. Atkins is out and would trade should be valuable to a top 8 team as he is cherry on to the cupcake type player. Then I would keep smith HB and Milera on a wing not HB. Seedsman misses out cause he is not the right type of player crows need atm as Smith plays his HB role.

Team this week...

Brown Talia Butts
Smith Doedee Laird
Sloane Mrounch Milera
Brouch McAsey Crocker
Murphy Tex Fog

R- O’Brien McHenry Jones

B- Gibbs Schoenberg McPherson Sholl

Out- Kelly, Lynch, Atkins, Keays, Seedsman
In- Butts, Sholl, Schoenberg, McPherson, Gibbs

Basically rotating Gibbs, Jones, McHenry, Brouch, Mrouch, Fog trough the guts.

1st up Ncks has to make Changes the players need to be accountable
The Crouch Bros win the ball but don't hurt the opposition
I think Walker and Lynch are at the end of the Road
Laird , Brown, Tallia can't play together in the B/Line. maybe Brown, Laird should be Traded along with the Crouch Bros.
This year we should be Pushing young players through so this Wk my Side
Butts,Tallia,Dodee
Laird,Walker,Smith
Milera,Schoenberg,McHenry
Davis McAsey,Crocker
Keays,Fogarty,McAdam
Obrien,BCrouch,Jones
Brown,MCrouch,Lynch,Oconnor
In...Schoenberg,McAdam,Butts,Oconnor,Davis
Out..Kelly inj Sloane inj Murphy,Atkins,Seedsman

If I was Nicks I wouldn't make many changes but eyeball the senior lads (Atkins, Seed, Crouchs and even Smith) and say you dish that up again and thats it. Only 15 games left this year and Im not going to waste them on you if you dont want it.

At this point its Moose/Hamill for Kelly. Give the group a chance to respond.

I think they have had more than enough chances.

It’s so weird and like goals somehow don’t really matter for Dixon as he’s ‘aggressive and crashes packs’
Yep, Port fans always overlook his poor goal returns and quiet games as he is 'aggressive' and shows the true 'Port Spirit'

Looking at Dixon and Tex's stats side by side, Tex is so far in front it's not funny.

Remember a couple of years ago you and I fighting that good fight. Not normally much support for early calls around here, I think most are conditioned towards the, “but he’s best 22, you don’t want to be the next Carlton/Melbourne”. Well, if you don’t strategically refresh your list with talent, you’ll get there anyway. It wasn’t hard to see that losing Lynch wasn’t going to deplete our forward line as we’d just drafted Fog and re-signed JJ.

It is always nice to have company on a hill I'm willing to die on.

It's a call that I feel has aged very well though. It also wasn't hard because Lynchs role really was just a bandaid to try to mitigate an underperforming midfield/whatever else we were trying to do.

Have mentioned it before downhill skier, and that was being bias, never been a fan

I can't believe how unwilling some players are to be physical when it's their turn to step up.
Seedsman and Atkins in particular, (Milera not far behind) we just need to weed out those type out. Gibbs will be an inclusion and he suffers from the same affliction. You can always carry one or two of those type but not as many as we have.
If we are in rebuild mode then go the whole hog.
Bring in Hamill and Scholl.
Hamill adds pace and has a nice left foot, Scholl kicks both sides and showed promise in the SANFL.
I would risk Worrell, has height and pace and is a lovely kick. Looks a really good player who could play both ends so blood him. Back our judgement and play these kids.
Half forward flankers in my opinion are there to kick goals first and chase hard second not the other way around. We are getting no production from that position.
Stengle looks the best option at present but he is suspended so try McAdam who has some tricks and can take a mark.
We have to get pace and different looks into the midfield.
Schoenberg is a must, Poholke, Gallucci, O'Connor, should be in the mix but whoever it is we need to find some goal kicking midfielders to take pressure off our forwards and put pressure on their opponents.
Having said all that this would be my line up:

FB - Brown Butts Scholl
HB - Doedee Talia Hamill
C - McHenry Jones Smith
HF - McAdam Walker Sloane
FF - Laird,Fogarty McAsey
R - ROB B Crouch M Crouch
Schoenberg,Worrell,Lynch, Poholke

Throw some caution to the wind, we need to blood players and shake things up.

Disagree. That group has had 18months. They have failed at every turn. Time to draw a line in the sand. Nicks needs to back up his words with actions.

Not sure I agree with that.

He had enough ball to have a huge impact last night. He did, just the wrong one.

Nah, Lynch is a downhill skier. He gets a lot of the ball even when we lose, but the story is always the same. Low impact, lots of turnovers and getting a lot of the ball in the defensive half in the field.

The only thing you could argue is its an indicator of our work rate dropping off, and that causing the drop off in skill. Still, it's been a long term trend.

I'm not sure that makes him a downhill skier, it just makes him past his best

Not only that, but this is still the group that downed tools last year. More heads need to roll to snuff that attitude out.

This was common 3-4 years ago. Lynch is a downhill skier.

Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that per se if we were a good side. You do need a balance of people who will help capitalise on good play as much as you need people who can reverse it when things are going wrong. Lynch is a fine (albeit very overvalued) role player.

It's just showing up more and more now we're not because Lynch doesn't have it to be influential in this kind of side.

The only grace Im giving them is the long break between r1 and r2. The only reason. Atkins/Milera played decently r1.

I could be wrong but I think thats how it plays out.
