Sides devoid of experience get hammered each week. I want us playing the kids this year at every opportunity, but not without some experienced heads in the team.
It's a fine line between having it to help the kids, and having it take kids spots

I'm not contesting that it is important. I'm contesting ours are capable of being that guide. This is the group that downed tools last season and we saw that again on Saturday. Right now, when the going gets tough, our experienced players fold.

We desperately need to get older, experienced players from a Collingwood, Richmond, West Coast this off-season. Whereas once our group would have been well suited to lead a rebuild, the last few years have rendered them incapable of it.

The issue with Lynch is developing our new forward structure. Ideally we would be playing 1 of Himmelberg or Frampton with Fogarty & 1 of Walker or Lynch... so we have a decent back up ruck option. We can't play the 4 taller players.

We may be able to get by with just ROB against some sides with the shorter game time, but not when the opposition have 2 genuine ruckmen.

Also, if Himmelberg comes in, it allows us to swap him with McAsey back/forward as needed
Sorry, but I have zero faith in either Frampton or Himmelberg. Neither are, or are ever likely to be, AFL standard.

I don't know how close Worrell is, but he's the next tall I want to see playing in our forward line.

Feel for David Swallow - he’s given his absolutely heart and soul to the Suns and then misses out on last night.

He be smashing in against our mids next Sunday.

We really need to move beyond the Crouch x 2 & Sloane combo at centre bounces. The evidence that it doesn’t work is overwhelming.

Agree about the Crouches. They are not the solution and I certainly wouldn't be offering Brad an inflated contract.

In fact I'd offer a contract that I knew would make him leave.

We need the courage to cut our losses, the sooner the better.

No what we need is to get older, experienced assistant coaches and now is a good time to start lining them up.

I agree. that's another need. Nicks is set up to fail off-field.

We need both, desperately.

Calling someone a "barometer" is such a nice way to phrase downhill skiers.

Generally, if you perform well when the going is good, and fall apart (either through being unable to get the ball or you routinely cannot impact the game with the ball due to lacking certain skills), you're a downhill skier. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, as having a couple of players being able to capitalise on momentum is useful, but lets call a spade a spade here.
If someone's effort doesn't vary between our good & bad games, then they're not a downhill skier - and by your own admission, his effort levels do not change. A downhill skier is someone who only bothers to put in the effort when the team is winning, which is categorically not Lynch.

By all means criticise his efficiency, his kicking skills and his habit of handballing to the feet of his teammates - but do not call him a downhill skier, because he's the antithesis of that.

Atkins, Milera & Seedsman are downhill skiers. Lynch is not.

And hasn't Seedsman gone to shit since actually looking like a footballer last year until that mystery knee injury.

Same with Milera and his shoulder.

Had several cases of short steps syndrome last night. Was not a good look at all.

Brodie needs to pull his finger out too.
Laird is still prepared to put his head over the ball and go hard, I actually gave Laird a pass mark last night.

The hack kick though.....

I'm all for a bit of experience to help tje youngsters but players like Mackay, Hartigan etc cannot lead on the field. They have got their own selection drama to worry about. Our team is not that young and we have plenty of experience already they are just average.

If it was Mcleod or Goodwin past champion type who still contribute sure but our experienced players out of the team would not be adding anything.

Well when there's nobody breaking to space ahead what else is he supposed to do when mostly he was under pressure? Hang onto it until he gets nailed or concede ground and go backwards to someone likely also under heavy pressure? How many times did we switch play to bring it in from the other side compared to Port who had options there that we didn't? Mate it's almost singularly all about work rate.

Unlike Atkins, Seedsman, Milera and Smith most of the game Laird at least had a decent crack.

He did yeah, but like Lynch there's no point getting it when you give it straight back.

Schoenberg must play every game. Get him in now and get as many games as possible into him.
Would like to see Poholke get a bit of an extended run. He is big bodied and a point of difference compared to out other mids. I still hold out hope for him.

186 cm/86 kg. Biggish but not a size that's a point of difference as B.Crouch is 186 cm/85 kg.

You're looking at 189 cm/89 kg as the cut-off point.

yep, we're going nowhere with the crouch bros in the middle but I dont think nicks will be brave enough to drop at least one of them.

imo we must let brad go otherwise we're going to continue being shit in the middle.

Better overhead and up forward than both, just needs to find the pace of the game

I agree. I'd be comfortable with us giving Myles a good run at it. Whilst I don't think he'll make it, anything is better than what is happening now.
