Option B is what most other teams do... though they generally try to time it so that the B-ruckman is up against another B-ruckman, which is not what Fogarty faced last night.
And Adelaide have used it with Hartigan/Otten in recent years with minimal negative results.

I agree Fogarty was definitely dropped in an unwinnable situation, but Walker's stint was just inept and both rucked as if they were competing with equals. It suggests to me that it was a late/poorly considered strategy, or the two's perception of their own ability was inflated by practicing against the likes of Himmelberg/Frampton in training.

We dont think outside the square. We dont look to take advantage of any postive attributes players have.
Oh, so your a mid young fella? Look we want you to have a go at being a HFF/HBF while we groom you for the midfield.
Its a failed path that gets
trodden over and over with the same failed outcomes.

Hes a forward who sadly needs the ball to be in his half for more than 20 minutes a game to have an impact.

I would not be against putting Fogarty in the midfield from time to time. After all, we are going to have periods where a forward line is starved, and someone of Fogarty's size and aggro can potentially change a game in a midfield burst.

Brad was recruited as a mid, we play him in the midfield. The only one failing Brad is Brad.

He's now 26. His body has failed him with injuries but he is not the dominant midfielder he should be and the type we need.
He panics and his disposal efficiency is average. He just doesn't hurt teams.

This isn't a question about how many mids we need for a game its about the mids we have.....and what we have doesn't cut the mustard.

Time to move on.

He’s the mid I’d keep if we could only keep 1. Sloane goes in a heartbeat if it’s a choice between the 2.

Yes it was wrong for Fogarty to ruck. I did see some glimpses while he was there, that having him attend centre bounces could have a positive effect.
Not a full time roll yet, but bursts in there wouldnt hurt.
I only rember him in one CBA, he didnt even compete for it but roved it and got the clearance.

Works for me!

Wouldn't do his fitness any harm either

The lynch conundrum. Could he play straight out full forward..he leads well enough. Maybe run fogarty out of the pocket and rotate walker / himmelberg at chf? Then maybe mcadam sloane and crocker as the 3 mid / smaller types? up there. Then just give good minutes to jones ned and poholke in the middle

There you go. How hard is it to change up our midfield. To try it all you need to do is give Poholke a game on a flank on that well worn path.
One of crouch crouch sloane in with them and its a totally different dynamic.
Try and extract something out of what we already have.
ROB, Fog, Myles and Rory/Matt/Brad.
I'm sure the latter 3 will like the attention taken away from them every now and then.
It only has to work once and the opposition is statring to double guess themselves as to who is the real threat.

B: Laird – Talia – Brown

HB: Smith – Butts – Doedee

C: Milera – Sloane (Poholke) – Seedsman

HF: B Crouch – Fogarty - Crocker

F: McAdam –McAsey - Davis

R: R O’Brien – Jones – M Crouch

I: Walker, McHenry, Hamill, Lynch (but prefer to see play back)

Out: Murphy, Atkins, Kelly (Concussion), Keays

I think I've discussed it before, but earlier in the thread I said I would do

OUT: Kelly (inj) Sloane (inj) Seedsman
IN: Sholl, Poholke, Gallucci

There are more candidates to go out - Atkins for example but he won't be dropped for his 100th, Lynch, Smith.

Myles Poholke, Jordan Gallucci, Harry Schoenberg, Ronin O’Connor. They should be in the team now.

Also, before the Showdown I introduced to you Deaneus the professional sports gambler...

and showed you the bets that would take Deaneus! to the stratosphere.

None of them came off. Tex briefly fumbled the ball at the head of the goalsquare but it was not meant to be, which is some sort of message I'm sure.

So, I was down straight away. And I thought, but what's the story this week? I looked up the betting against our opponent, who i thought was Brisbane.

Turns out, it's Gold Coast. And they're slight favourites. And then i referred to this table:

This will be their 200th game in the AFL, against the one team they've never beaten, who suck. So i looked at the team from last week, and thought, no Swallow, no Ellis. And I compared it to the rabble we are.

And I thought, there are match-ups that are pretty even. But there are some lopsided, and not in our favour.

And then I saw the $1.83, and I realised: WE ARE DESTINED TO LOSE THIS GAME. LOAD UP AND MAKE HAY.

So, $20 on Gold Coast to win @ $1.83

Account Balance = $2.19

If Lynch plays another game like Saturday night then there wont be much of a conundrum anymore. I've never seen his skills look so bad before.

I wouldn't be against Nicks taking this as an opportunity to send a clear message to his playing group by dropping some of the "untouchables"

OUT: Lynch, Laird, MCrouch,
IN: Davis, Sholl, Hamill

Finally have a coach with the balls to put some selection fear back into the top echelon of players at the club.

Lynch is in no danger whatsoever of being dropped. There are at least 8 players ahead of him in the "must drop" queue, and that number rises to at least 16 if we include youngsters with a free pass (e.g. McHenry and MacAsey).

Lynch was one of the few players we had who put in consistently, and who didn't go MIA for the entire game. That alone puts him in the top 1/3 of our players from Saturday night, and players who get dropped don't come from the top 1/3.

Feel free to question his efficiency and execution, but he won't be dropped while literally half the team couldn't be bothered trying hard enough to even break a sweat.

I'd prefer he sent messages to the lazy bastards who couldn't be bothered trying.

Deal with the issues of execution later, once the players are putting more than 20% effort. Lack of effort trumps poor execution every day of the week.

Who is on your "couldn't be bothered trying" list?

Mine consists of Milera, M. Crouch, Smith, Seedsman, Atkins, with B. Crouch borderline.

Keays had an absolute mare, but at least looked like he was trying.
