Sloane should be on the wing, not in the middle. So we have lost both wingers. Who have we recruited as a winger?
We dont have 1 replacement let alone 2.

Hamill
Hamill was recruited as a defender.Hamill
Or HBFSloane should be on the wing, not in the middle.
That would be just like us. The one player who showed a bit of dare out of the backline to move up to a wing to be replaced by Gibbs who will play lock down again. So he can stand on the wing and wait for the 50m bomb to a pack from our backline players. Of course he'll be crap, so he'll get dropped, but Gibbs was great with his 8 disposals in a lock down role, so he'll stay. You can just see it happening.

Shows how players are like robots now days. A punch out of the ruck makes it unpredictable. That's structure/coaching, our rucks have done this for years.
That’s when players could play on instinct and their natural game, now it’s so regimented that if it doesn’t come off it’s a complete failureShows how players are like robots now days. A punch out of the ruck makes it unpredictable.
absolutely correct, just wanted to play a thought experiment. I know that the way carlton and the suns have gone about it has hurt their development I am just wondering if there is a better way to progress, that doesnt involve insipid senior players like GibbsThere are arguments for both sides, it’s hard to make a call unless you know the makeup of he young player involved, some can make the transition unaffected some struggle, it’s not as simple as just give them a game, that’s where good development coaches come in
Good leadership from senior players with the right attitude who care about the sides development, as we know cancer can spread quickly, “ the best football department in the land” would also play a strong partabsolutely correct, just wanted to play a thought experiment. Sholl, Butts and Davis were all around the mark in the preseason. Not sure why they aren't even in consideration now.
I don't mind this idea...though for what Hartigan would offer in the ruck, you may as well play Berg up forwardThe only way I'd be happy to see Hartigan in the side is if we've been developing him to play 2nd Ruck. Then we can plonk McAsey in the forward line and bring him back as a swingman when needed.
Not totally correct, played predominantly across half back for the Dandenong Stingrays but also played some decent midfield at times and I suspect given his height and potential to fill out with maturity I think long term Hamish and the team had bigger plans than just defence for Will into the future. I think we were lucky to take Will where we did because the Saints were reportedly pretty keen on him with their next pick.Hamill was recruited as a defender.
Or HBF

devils advocate, what damage does it do to younger players to be surrounded by "no bruise" footballers who arent able to get themselves to elite standard of fitness and aren't prepared to do the hard work on the field. would it make more sense to trust in the younger players to create their own culture, under guidance and support of coaches (not that we bloody have any)and allow those players to struggle but when they slowly rise on the other end it is something they created, as opposed to being nursed until they are ready.
Our midfield plans is best described like this;
Guys, I'm going to try to drop the ball at my feet. Hopefully we will manage to then hold the ball in a pack so we can re-set and have another ball up. Then I'm going to try to drop the ball at my feet. Hopefully....
This is the time to throw magnets around. Be inventive. Reinvent players. Revive careers. Work out who is worth retaining.
Whether that’s throwing Tex to the half back line, playing Murphy as a small defender, trying Berg as a key defender. Anything. something.
And if the club does anything at all, stick Jones on the ball and BLOODY keep him there.
I’m starting to sound like a jaded old man at 37. This club will do that. Thanks for listening.
