Carlton have got some talls up forward too - Casboult, Curnow, McKay (the good one). No way Otten goes out this week.

Will be interesting to see what we do if our Mackay comes up and Kelly is available.
Last year Carlton gave their kids a rest and they didn't play over here. If they do that again things will get seriously ugly.

If there are any concerns with Tex, he should be rested for Fog. We may need a replacement tall to push Gov back at times if Blues 3 tall forwards.

Polholke will be the 1st to make way for a returning player if Sloane, Betts or Kelly are available. I expect 1-2 will return this week but not all.

We may choose to "rest" Mackay if Kelly returns.

All our injuries have been described by the club as very minor and only precautionary when they happen
In Tex's case, I believe them. They didn't even bother icing his hamstring.

Interesting, because Milera made three key errors last night by slightly underkicking the ball. Each was a turnover.

The closest folks can get to a Mackay error was a kick to a contest, without discussing whether that was still the best option to get us a stoppage.

Now, I think we'll be able to tidy that out of Milera's game and Mackay has years of history on the errors front, but I still think it needs to be acknowledged that Mackay is probably having a career best run over the last 25 games.
Admittedly with Milera, those 3 glaring mistakes (I'm thinking of the two in the back 50 which resulted in a goal and the one missing Lynch on the lead) were part of alot of kicks throughout. He hits a man on all of them and he has kicked at near 95% efficiency.

Jenkins often didn't move at all for him and a clanger would result due to his man waltzing past him and chopping it off.

I think Milera has the foot skills to start taking longer options, but for now we seem to be holding him to a higher level than others when it comes to hitting targets. Laird will have a similar amount of disaster kicks, but he too is racking them up across half back.

As for Dmac, there were definitely bombs to contests, 1 to a 3v1 gold coast's way. Also some lack of awareness/time when he had players around him. He had a decent game but I would suggest he was taking significantly lower risk options (I.e. high kicks not low passes) which makes the mistakes look significantly better.

Yep. DMac has a free target on the wing at one stage but bombed it into the middle of the ground for a turnover. Was baffling.

Selective reading it seems, I've already stated one above where he flat out kicked it to the wrong option and he had a wide open man on the wing spreading for him to kick to.

And FYI, 4 clangers to Milera's 2. He's no longer invisable for most of the game which is a big step up, but he really doesn't do much with the ball by foot in my opinion.

I wondered if Mackay was still affected a bit by the concussions, seemed baffling a couple of times.
I think I said many times during that first quarter... who is this player? He was taking the game on, throwing his body in fearlessly (to be fair he normally does that, but generally bounces right off again). Apart from a couple of poor decisions - and hell, no player is perfect - he has had a pretty good run of quality games since he came back after being dropped last year, but he really does seem to be playing to a different level again this year.

Yeah, I am also worried about that. I saw him break some lines, bounce the ball and take on Tom Lynch in a fight.

Who comes out for Betts? If you say CEY you're an idiot.

*btw, I do not want to drop Knight. I'm actually a big Knight fan. Hence why I said he would be "unlucky" in my initial post.

When are at full strength, CEY won't be best 22, but Knight will be. We would have too many inside midfielders.

For now CEY deserves to stay in as playing well & we have plenty of injuries.

I actually don't disagree with anything you've said here.

But you still haven't answered the original question. How do we get Eddie back in the side next week?

I have Knight, CEY and Douglas fighting it out for the last position in our best 22. I tend to agree that with the ability to be a pressure forward Knight is needed in the 22, but I dont think he has performed consistently enough yet.

My best 22 now has Mackay ahead of Kelly for that extra small defender. :) I am being serious as well. He covered there last year and played that role this week. I think he gives us more than Kelly and he is a pretty good defender. People are not giving him credit that he is a better player now than he was a few years ago. My best 22 would be:

Brown Talia Doedee
Milera Hartigan Laird
Seedsman Gibbs Atkins
McGovern Walker Lynch
Betts Jenkins Gallucci
Jacobs Sloane M. Crouch
B. Crouch Mackay Greenwood

Plus one of Knight, CEY, or Douglas

Next: Kelly, Fogarty, Murphy

CEY was in a side that had all 3 of Gibbs, Crouch and Sloane and he's had 2 strong games in a row so he'll remain for now.

Long term you wouldn't think he'd remain and he has some poor decisions at times but as long as he plays how he is, I don't see him coming out.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, it really depends on our injuries as to who is available. I don't expect all of Sloane, Betts & Kelly to all come back in at once. Probably only 1 or 2 as there is no need to rush them all back at once against Carlton, particularly given the form of the team.

Imo, Polhoke will make way regardless, as can tweak the side around.

If Kelly is one of at least 2 changes, then imo Mackay will make way, as Milera has shown to be a better option. Mackay also has injury concerns.

Walker may be an out & we don't bring in Fog.

B: Brown, Talia, Doedee
HB: Milera, Otten, Laird
C: Seedsman, Mrouch, Atkins
HF: Lynch, McGovern, Knight
F: Gallucci, Jenkins, Douglas
R: Jacobs, CEY, Gibbs
I (from): Kelly, Greenwood, Mackay, Sloane, Polhoke, Walker, Betts, Fogerty

Select the best 4 fit players from the extended bench. Greenwood is a given.

Time to give Gibbs a rrest. He's took the load from our injuries
We can rest him up forward like we did with Douglas last night after big game against Sydney... or if Kelly & Mackay both unavailable, then across HB.

Crazy not to give him a game against his old team.
