Granted Brodie works on whatever it is he needs to work on, I think it's a no brainer for him to come straight in. We saw what he could do last year with the same midfield mix. He was first in the team for clearances, and 2nd in tackles behind only Brayshaw. And is still second in the team for average clearances this year. The issue to me was that he and JOM were very similar players. Love Ras but I'd back in Brodie for this game.

Even in the WAFL Brodie is averaging 29 touches and 4.7 tackles vs Ras 20 touches and 6.5 tackles.
See, I see Ras as a more like for like with JOM who has been preferred for his defence as much as his clearance work. We have Fyfe for the pure clearance role that Brodie had last year. From what Ysaye said, Brodie was terrible defensively in his last WAFL game, so much so that they shunted him to the forwardline so I think Ras was ahead of him previously and don’t think anything would have changed since then

To be fair I haven't seen Brodie play WAFL since that first game, but I just refuse to believe that he could have regressed so much this year that he can't get a game in the midfield. Even in the pre-season games he was looking very good.

Dam was gonna post this and you beat me to it.

I like first option best

I'd like to see Brodie sub as he coming on and attacking through the middle will help provide a chop out for a few of our mids and could distribute to the outside nicely

Erasmus to start and hopefully play as good as he did against Sydney

Sturt wasn't effective as sub unfortunately
Hmm, I’ve done that wrong, Sturt should be in the 22 for Kuek which will be interesting if Walters gets up because they will need a bit more height than he offers

Probably as much he’s regressed a little bit as Johnson and Erasmus have made massive gains and caught up to the level he’s regressed to and Fyfe is not injured. The more I think about it as well, current Fyfe AND Brodie in the same teams seems very risky…

Is it that much different to Brodie and Mundy last year in terms of two way running though?

Probably similar but, what many wouldn't say or see last season was how terrible Mundy was defensively. He was bad before last season and last season was terrible. I am not sure we should go for that set up again (or similar with Fyfe in).

Dockers seem to setup with the idea of getting O'Meara coming out the front of stoppage and using his foot skills to hit up a target. I have faith in neither Brodie or Erasmus doing that. Wouldn't mind MJ playing O'Mearas role for a week

Maybe slightly on roles given Mundy seemed mostly to be a receiver by the end and Fyfe and Brodie are both see ball get ball but if Brodie got back to where he was last year it’s probably similar defensively- might not necessarily be a good thing though as poshman said

Yeah, that’s probably the correct way to think about it

I don't think it would necessarily be a good thing, but I don't think it'll be all that bad either. Think it should be trialled this week, and then back to what's been working when JOM gets back.

Seems like that’s just squeezing in Brodie for the sake of it which is 50-50 to be better or worse for the team as a whole. Will stick with thinking it’s best for the team if Ras plays (and most fair on the player who was dropped while playing well). I can’t lie, I’d be disappointed if Ras missed out.

The forwardline structure is probably even more interesting to see what they go with given the Jabies structure was working so well but Walters might be fit

Correct but it would be definitely be better for me (huge will brodie fan).

Walters will have to come in if fit. It'll be the same set up from the last few games before his injury, but I assume we'll just need another tall to replace Jackson. I don't think Sturt is the right guy.

But then someone else is getting dropped from the starting 22 if we add in a tall with Walters and whoever replaces JOM or am I think about it wrong

No you're right but this whole sub thing gets so confusing. I wonder if we'll try and play fyfe more forward then.

Out: Darcy, JOM
In: Walters, Ras/Brodie
Darcy to Walters means a lot of role changes and we end up undersized.
Darcy > Jackson
Jackson > Treacy
Treacy > Banfield
Banfield > Frederick
Frederick > Walters

Leaving Amiss, Switta and Schultz in their current roles.

Resisting the urge to move Fyfe to 3rd tall forward because without Jackson (midfielder) and JOM, think we need his bigger body in the middle, MJ could probably go through more often to allow fyfe to rest forward, but it would be for short bursts.

Darcy out means Banfield will play tall again, which in turn will cause the "Hughes and Banfield?" thread to get bumped back to the top of page 1.
True, which I would not prefer. Although think banners had to play 3rd tall last week after Darcy went down and did ok. Was making a contest and crashing packs, but probably not ideal for him

His leap over Gawn was gutsy to watch. But it’s tough on him to do repeatedly.

Could well see Fyfe forward for Darcy, and Treacy using ruck duties. Kuek has to have a chance or Reidy otherwise

I'm going to go a bit left field. I reckon we might bring Worner in for O'Meara and play Aish & Johnson more mid.
I think having 2 genuine wingers in NOD and Worner would really help with transition.
Worner has been getting some wraps from coaches lately, he's close to next in line.

Of course it makes far more sense to bring another mid in and Brodie would be stiff as would Erasmus and I'd be happy with either.

Walters comes in for Darcy and we go with the Treacy/Jackson Ruck.

We've proved that pressure and fast transition is what wins games for us. They will look to keep that going.
I suppose it depends how they think they can best try to maintain our clearance momentum in the absence of Dary and O'Meara.
