Couldn't possibly do any worse Amiss. I'd back teams fifth best defender to beat Amiss these days
That’s harsh. If Jye was given even half the protection other forwards get it would be a different story in terms of the number of possessions and opportunities for him to kick goals.

His confidence is clearly down with respect to taking his shots at goals. The more possessions he gets the more chances he has to nail a goal.

The difference between Voss and Amiss is party expectations as well. Amiss kicked stacks of goals as basically a teenager in the AFL as a top 10 pick, whereas Voss is a DFA.

Voss imo is actually still pretty poor at one important as aspect of the game for a key and that is at least halving contests. Not only does Voss not take contested marks (0.5 per game) he conceeds them to his opponent. In fact his stats are more like a small. He is far above average in ground ball and tackles, below average in marking related ones. He is elite for pressure for a key forward, but if you reclassify him as a small suddenly it's average in the mattis117 sense of the word.

Amiss is in poor form but I don't think they think Voss can hold down a genuine key forward spot yet. For the moment the are probably thinking the team is better off with Amiss at least commanding an opponent that has to stay on him.
"party expectations"??

What sort of party was expected, pray tell, Paracleet my friend?
And was the Freo BF board invited to any of them?

Lots of talk about Amiss beating or not beating second and third opposition defenders.
That’s not the problem!!!

The problem is he can’t kick the goals from the chances he is getting. The missed set shots at key moments from point blank range have nothing to do with what defender he is playing on. It doesn’t matter if he’s playing on Stephen silvagni or Matthew Scarlett - he’s missing routine set shots from 15m out at critical junctures in big games that is costing us momentum and keeping opposition teams in the game.
We barely hung on v North when he missed a routine round the corner shot from 15 out midway through the 4th, to put the game to bed effectively, and they immediately got a run on us and nearly snatched the game.

Then last weekend the miss from 15m directly out in front, an absolute soda, cost us the chance to get within 2 points with 10 min to play and they quickly went downfield and put us away having been let off the hook yet again.

Every miss from now piles on the pressure in his mind. The anxiety is written all over his face every time a clutch moment arrives for amiss late in a game nowadays.
I’m not sure what the solution is but it’s directly hurting this teams chances of winning games at the moment.

In fact it’s starting to approach Nat Fyfe areas from a couple of years ago when it was almost a comedy show everytime he took a mark in front of goal and he appeared to momentarily almost lose all ability to kick a football, in the ensuing set shot. It was borderline uncomfortable to watch as a fan.

It’s not that bad yet for Jye, but if he misses more easy shots this weekend it’s bloody well getting close.

A lot of our players don't have the cohunas and/or skill to kick it to him. Let's face it when they do it's either too high or in the dirt or to the defender's advantage..

Or they hit him on the chest and he drops it, which is what has been happening all year.

Nobody had the cojones to correct you?!
Maybe you were referring to the Big Cohuna :)

because then you lose your best clearance middle.

Hawks have already won the battle.

The best option I can think off, is to get him to tag another Hawks player.

If Serong is still getting tagged, then it means two hawks are close together leaving a fremantle player in space. It would also upset the Hawks setup in the middle, and may allow us to get some damaging (straight out the front) clearances.

Obviously, it only works if we have other mids who can do the job, so then it is up to Erasmus, JOM, Brayshaw and Bolton to lift from the get go.
Just seems like if we commit to supporting Serong if he does get tagged then the Hawks are pretty much anticipating that and have a plan to suit. But I could be overthinking it.. I'm more concerned about their small forwards more than anything.

Isn't the real answer he isn't 100% fit as is regularly confirmed by regular training watchers? They are forcing him to play through it as might be something you are expected to push through as an AFL player, but maybe he doesn't have the
experience or mindset to cope with it yet

So it would look something like this ?

On the smaller Sydney ground prob should have run with one less taller player if that was Amiss or Darcy out then so be it. We were too tall.

At the bigger Optus no issue plus Hawks have been running with two rucks Meek and Ramsden. Ramsden some chance to get dropped and replaced with Mitch Lewis. Regardless I’d roll with Darcy and Jackson.

Switta in for Dudley
JOM in for Ras
Ras to sub

I’d like to see Banfield replaced by Brandon Walker but doubt this will happen as yet.

We have all picks plus an extra 3rd rounder from Richmond.
Assumed the Richmond pick would be the first pick of the third round when the season started.

Think they are the worst team in the league currently but West Coast are shite enough I can't see them beating literally anyone else. The two games gap probably won't be closed.

Dear will come in for Hawthron. For Ramsden?

I would think so. Ramsden has been playing almost entirely as a KPF. Averaging 3 hitouts over his last 4 games. He will get dropped for sure when Lewis/Dear are deemed ready (which as you say might be this week).

I know Darcy has been doing better in hitouts than Jackson, but I'm worried about going in too tall against Hawthorn. I think Jackson would lose the hitouts comfortably against Meek, but it's up to the mids to plan for this, and Jackson could make up the difference around the ground.

Meek is coming off a club record 59 hitouts, v Marshall. Absolutely not taking Darcy out.

Hawthorn are going tall as well. Dear/Chol/Gunston with Sicily/Battle/Barass

Some of those guys are not genuine talls. Sicily is the same size as Worner. Gunston is the same size as Chapman. With Darcy we have 7 at 195cm+. Hawks would only have 5 (which includes Nash who is a pure midfielder).

Hit outs hardly matter. It matters more what the ruck can do when the ball hits the ground plus contribution around the ground.
The opposition rucks were probably best players for their teams in our last two games, both contributing strongly in general play.

That argument doesn’t hold up when the oppo has the first 9 centre clearance of the game and goals from 5 of them.

Im glad this forum has settled on JOM being better than Erasmus. I was going insane the last couple weeks reading some opinions.

Debating about Erasmus/JOM/Johnson just shows how poor our midfield depth is. They are all very limited players. JOM is slow and past it and Raz/Johnno either haven’t taken the next step, or perhaps were never good enough.

There is a sharp drop-off after Brayshaw/Serong/Young that is glaring with Young out and either Serong or Brayshaw regularly under clamps now. Bolton has been a good injection through there at times and Wagner/NOD a little bit but it’s not enough
