I wasn’t making the call to single out Jong as many will suggest it trying to and as I said I understand it’s a harsh call after him being far from our worst tonight BUT imo the year is cooked and I expect an absolute thrashing by the plastics next week, so honestly if we aren’t making the 8 I’d really like to finish very low.

I don’t think the list is that bad and adding Ugle Hagan and another really good kid I’d suggest we make a rapid recovery In a uninterrupted year.

This years setup just doesn’t suit us so I won’t mention the word “tank” but I’d be trying to fast track some kids development and limiting games to Suckers, Dicko, Jong, Wood and possibly Libba who shouldn’t be at the club next year for one reason or another. I’d much rather see Weightman come in next week than Dicko for example
Fair enough. I’m still hopeful of salvaging this year. A few more weeks may crush that hope.

We’re spoiled for choice on players to drop at the moment, so I’d let Jongy enjoy what might be his last moment in the sun for us.

People will jump on me like they always do but I fully expect a flogging next week which means we will be 4 games out of the 8 with 14 to go

This team isn’t close to good enough to win 10-11 of those 14 especially if the MC are consistent unfortunately

And don’t get me wrong if they did drop Jong and bring in Dicko or keep Suckers in I wouldn’t be happy with that either

Dale can look really poor when it’s not going our way. Very clean finisher but really needs our midfield on top.

Suspect he is a bit of a front runner. Obviously, being a forward he is dependant on whats happening further up the ground, but his bad games are terrible. When things aren't going well he needs to find a way to have some sort of impact, even if he isn't kicking goals.

Also don't think we can play more then 2 of Dale, Llloyd, Gowers and Dickson. Whilst, not big, they are all still marking forwards, we need some actual crumbers. Hopefully Weightman can be that guy.

Initial reaction selection changes.

B: Crozier Keath Richards
HB: JJ Cordy Suckling
C: Williams Libba Macrae
HF: McLean Bont Dunkley
F: Dickson Bruce English
R: Sweet Wallis Jong
Int: Smith, Dale, Gowers, Naughton
1st Emergency: Lynch

Out: Gardner, Lloyd, Vandermeer, Lipinski, Daniel
In: Cordy, Sweet, Dickson, Liberatore, McLean

In: Extra Composure, Aggression and effort.
Out: Less Anxiety and Self preservation behaviour.

Position Moves:
Richards to add some pace and skill in defence.
English: Back-up Ruck and marking target up forward.
Bont: Needs protection, so CHF to start, when he rotates on ball
Williams, and/or Gowers to come in off the wing and apply strong shepherd on Bont's opponent.
Wallis: Extra hardness in the middle.

Lynch seems to be a forgotten man at the club but has attributes that we are clearly lacking so very close to selection.

I've never been convinced about Dale although I must admit I sat up and took notice when he kicked about 20 goals in 5 games last year.

I agree we need players who don't go missing when most needed.

Gee I miss Liam Picken.

Out: Gardner, Gowers, Lloyd, Dale,

In: Lewis Young, Trengove, West, McLean.

If Gardner & Gowers play, we're going in without our best possible team, which is unfair to a lot of people.

I've never been someone to tear a player to shreds. But as a coach if you have someone who is slow, has poor disposal and makes poor decisions, playing him ahead of more accomplished players lowers morale and trust in the MC's judgement.

I'm sure there was something in the background like promising him 3 games to show his stuff, or a personal promise that if he worked his arse off the opportunities would come, but if you try only maintain the relationship with the one player, you may risk the relationship with the rest of the playing group, who are owed being given a chance to take the field with the best teammates available.

Psychologically, it's also a terrible mindset to be going in knowing you need to pick up the slack for someone not quite up to the standard.

He seems a lovely kid and should take the fact that had an opportunity that 99.99% of footy players never will get, with the wage and networking opportunities that it entails.

This - well said. Imagine how Cordy and Trengrove feel watching this bloke?

In the same vein Jong has to play. One of 2 or 3 who is genuinely hard at the man and footy on our list. If he gets dropped after last night Bevo may as well pull names out of a hat for selection (not beyond him).

Trenners, Yes. Cordy, No. Cordy deserves a massive rocket. Too many subpar performances that lack desire and hunger.
I’m a massive Cordy fan but have no issues with Gardner being picked before him. You can’t cruise through games in 2nd gear and just expect to hold your spot. PULL YOUR FINGER OUT CORDY!!

Would happily see Trenners replace Gards, but hope Cordy lingers for a bit and gets his shit together.

Out: Gardner, Gowers, Dale, Lloyd, Vandermeer
In: Trengove, Sweet, Libba, McLean, Wood

Look Vandermeer won’t get dropped and would be stiff, but Bevo needs to stop being a stubborn prick and pick our best 22.

Lipinski had 22 touches and was responsible for our 2 best kicks inside forward 50.

He’s our best forward half ball user IMO. Must play.

On Jong. Yep, effort is super important. I get that. And he always gives that. But I can’t stand watching his lack of skill and game awareness. Sorry. I just don’t want him in the team.

...Same can be said about McLean. He should be an auto in yet he’s missing out because of subpar performances and his 2nd gear efforts at times around the contest and his work rate between them. Plus there’s probably training issues as well which we aren’t privy to.

Libby’s another story altogether. Has pissed up a good chunk of his career and now injuries are getting the better of him. His last good season was 6 yrs ago ffs. He’s that far from an auto selection it isn’t funny.

The only people to blame for Gardner and Gowers and Jong and whoever for getting games are the people they’ve replaced. Make it hard for the coaches to drop you or you can **** off back to the 2’s. That goes for the shithouse players from last night too.

Lynch is as soft a pea heart as any on our list. He’s the last player we need lining up in the 22.

I'm off the Bailey Dale bandwagon.
He plays as a soft marking forward, well that's Schache who has twice the workrate, can play further up the ground and pinch hit in the ruck for 5 minutes a quarter.

Agreed. Has no more tricks to his bow. When we are on he looks fantastic and when we are off he doesn’t get near it and can’t impact on the game.

Much prefer Schache. However would prefer Dale over Lloyd. Due to having a higher ceiling and same level of current output.

Too many of our forwards depend on the midfield to create chances for them. Dale, Lloyd. At least someone like McLean can win a 1-on-1 contest in the forward line. I'd keep Lloyd in for now, but he doesn't have many more credits in the bank. I think we need Schache in for his accuracy and ability to lead hard up the ground and create space behind him for team mates. I think Naughton forward works better with him in the side. He plays like a leading flanker so I don't think it makes us too tall. Vandermeer had a good first game but just has to make way for better options. Could possibly come back in if Lloyd doesn't improve.

I personally would move Naughton back to defence with Cordy and let Keath play 3rd up but that's not going to happen. So in that case, to remedy a lack of leadership, defensive structure and ruck assistance Trenners must come in, even though I don't really rate him that highly. We need Wood back ASAP to help with the first two points as well.

JJ, Richards, Suckling all need to improve. Currently their positives are not outweighing their negatives and if they don't get better, we'd be better placed bringing in some hardness.

Main Training: The one handball rule, have to kick the ball after one handball start teaching the players to take ground and not
overuse the ball, lift their collective vision. 1st penalty for multiple handballs, place hands in a bucket of ice for two minutes.
2nd offence for multiple handballs taser the prick, only joking of course, but could explain my lack of exposure as a head coach.
Marcus Bontempelli to the wing to break the tag with the instruction to get creative and push forward, Johannisen as the sweeper
or wing defence, Patrick and Toby as the push up high half forwards leaving the forward diamond of English, Bruce, Lloyd and
Schache. Move the ball, kick the ball, take ground and score more simple !

Daniel holds the ball up .... by waiting for the best option to present itself, then 9 times out of 10 puts a perfectly weighted kick or handball into the bread basket of someone in space that opens the game up completely for us.

Yep, think I'll take that.

(I might have posted this in wrong thread, but whatever)

Daniel was very good last night. Was the only player on the field that remained composed.
Disappointing his teammates didn’t follow suit.

I’d imagine they’re already packed. Even if he comes in and helps turn us around like last year why would he stay?

Because he’d be sitting at home twiddling his thumbs if he left.
Players don’t just waltz in to another club and get games because they felt hard done by at their previous club.
Trenners isn’t that good.
