Preview Changes V GWS

VB said he would be ready this week for GWS, is tracking ahead of schedule with his recovery.

I reckon it'll be:
VB for Lyons
Hendo for Tambling/Mackay

I reckon one of Tambling or Mackay will survive and will probably be the sub against GWS. Wouldn't be surprised to see Matty Wright going out for Crouchy if he's fit.

Who comes in for the Porpoise? LJ might get his chance, but haven't seen his SANFL stats. The cupboard is fairly bare after that...
LJ only played a quarter and 5 minutes before hurting his knee. Don't think it's that bad but we don't know anything officially.

And dropping Lyons is lunacy.

Why is dropping him lunacy? Mackay had much better stats and played a good 2nd half, Lyons did bloody nothing. And this is coming from someone who wanted Mackay gone at half time today, but he redeemed himself. Why does a young player get a pass mark for 10 touches? If VB is fit, he should come in for Lyons.

Mackay had 22 touches, 6 marks and 4 tackles and provided good run in the 2nd half. Exactly what did Lyons do that screamed 'pick me' for next week? He was no better than Tambling today.

Because Mackay has had 6 average to poor games in a row and Lyons has only had one average to poor game.

People wanted Kerridge dropped after last week and look at what a little faith and confidence from the selectors did for him this week.

I don't think Tambling or Porp were as bad as people are making out. Pretty evident nearly all players need one game to readjust to the pace. We have to stick with Porp, too talented to not persist. Even Dmac was infinitely better than last week. Unchanged line-up for next week. Except if they want to rest Sauce. Hendo and Laird can come back via SANFL.

That was probably Mackay's best game for the season, and if you watch the 2nd half again he was actually pretty good. I'm not gonna lose sleep if Mackay is dropped over Lyons, as I think he probably deserves a spell to send him a message, but I'm also not gonna pretend Lyons deserves to keep his spot over him. Tambling showed more than Lyons today, but I knew people would be blinded by that one bad kick he had coming out of defense.

I know people would love to see DMac getting dropped, but it's not gonna happen. His 2nd half has definitely earned him another week.

Very hard to predict the changes for next week. So much depends upon the returning players, which is where the uncertainty comes in. Fingers crossed we could regain Henderson, VB, Crouch and Laird. I doubt any of us would have trouble finding 4 players to omit, making way for that lot.

Henderson replacing Tambling is a no-brainer. Tambling was only ever a last minute replacement anyway, when the selected player had to withdraw.

Wright, Mackay and Porplyzia all deserve a holiday. I know it's not going to be popular, but Lyons is probably on the chopping block too. He didn't do a whole lot tonight, before being subbed out, and we already have a very young & inexperienced team. I'd feel a whole lot worse about chopping him if Kerridge wasn't already in the team, with Crouch & Laird likely to resume. Which - and how many - of those four end up in the SANFL next week... well that is really the question, isn't it?

Curious thing about McKay for all his supposed speed, hes pretty slow

There should be a rule if you come in for your first game if you dont get injured your in for 2 games minimum. Its pretty unfair to expect a first gamer (or player who hasnt played for donkeys years) to be upto speed immediately. Hence why i feel a bit for tambling.
I thought Mckernan showed something to work with.
Changes for me if available Mckay for Crouch, Wright for Riley.

He's not slow, that goal he kicked against Freo last year shows the speed he can bring. He's just prone to making some awful decisions with the ball. I thought he was in our top half of players tonight though, so he's going nowhere.

Lyons has to stay in next week. It's GWS - gives VB another week, or rest someone.
I don't think we are in the position of resting anyone, especially considering what happened to Essendon today after resting a few guys against them.

He doesn't look quick when chasing, got caught on the turnover many times tonight.
Not sure 1/2 a reasonable game saves you after plenty of poor ones.
He may have speed but hes not showing it often enough.

Assuming all are fit, I think VB, Crouch & Henderson will all come straight back into the team. That's a minimum of 3 changes right there. Laird is a strong possibility of being a 4th inclusion, based on solid performances in his debut games.

The odds on Martin or Riley getting a gig next week, given the players we have returning from injury, would be very long indeed. Our injury list isn't so long that we're desperate enough to select either of these "break glass in case of emergency" players.

Anyhow, with 3-4 certain inclusions, we need to find 3-4 omissions. I don't disagree with your "minimum 2 game" policy, but the reality is that Lyons & Tambling were the last players selected (especially Tambling who wasn't even in the 22 named on Thursday) and neither did anything to justify the selectors giving them a 2nd game. They're "low hanging fruit" when it comes to making changes, given the players who are coming back in.

After a bad fumble that cost us a goal early Mackay was pretty good and will be playing next week. He's not super fast but is quick of mind and can break lines. Will really help us if he can build into some form.
Couldn't tackle a dead donkey though nd fell over at a crucial stage.

FFS I have missed 3 games in 2 years. Where is this crap about me not watching games coming from?

To be fair there is lot that isn't evident on the box.

But there are a lot of things you see better watching it on TV too.

Those two comments completely cancelled each other out - this post was therefore a total waste of space.

Not quite sold on henderson, hes too up and down for my liking, agree though, that he'd probably come straight back in along with VB and crouch.

You could almost liken it to a new draftee signs for a minium of 2 years and not just 1, too hard for them to show something in their first year.

Am I the only person that thinks Dangerfield is a good chance to be rested?

GWS are nothing to worry about, Essendon have toyed with them today but over four quarters they're no threat with the fitness base.

If we don't get games into Lyons, Laird etc. now, when will we?
