Really liked porps game. Showed the composure and class under pressure that we really missed.

Some of his decision making was outstanding.

Also loved Luke Thomson's game. His ability to play on talls and Small's was invaluable. His run for a key defender is something we need more of. Would be losing nothing by keeping him instead of Reilly. He could easily play that 3rd tall better.

There were a few key plays in the last quarter that Lyons showed exactly what is great about him. Has the ability to slice though a contest and deliver cleanly. Exactly what we need.

Out: Reilly, Martin
In: hartigan, Cameron
Not sure I can like this post enough!

IN: Rutten, Laird, Kerridge

OUT: Pods, Reilly, Porp

Not sure of his injury status, would love to see Chuck Cameron come in and play the remainder of the season - the kid has talent.

Two factors to consider here.. Who do we have to come back in? Who do we have to match up in GWS' team?

Henderson - has only played a half of football since returning from a long break, will need at least another week in the SANFL before he has the match fitness to play at AFL level. Not this week.
Kerridge & Laird - Both were late omissions from yesterday's team and comments here indicate that neither are likely to be ready for next week.
Cameron - Hasn't played in a month and could probably do with a run in the SANFL to get himself back up to speed, before returning to the big league.
Mackay - Should (hopefully) be over his concussion and should come straight back into the side.
Rutten - Depends whether you choose to believe he was omitted, or "rested" against Port. Either way, he's available for selection. Depends on whether or not the selectors trust Thompson & Otten against the GWS tall forwards.
Hartigan - Has missed the last 5 games since falling out of favour with the selectors and didn't get any help with the SANFL bye last weekend. I can't see Otten being dropped and it's difficult to see him jumping ahead of Truck, which means he probably won't play against GWS.
M Crouch & M Grigg - Continue to ply their trade in the SANFL. Neither got to make a case for promotion this week, courtesy of the bye, so they'll both probably be back in the SANFL again next week.

In short, Mackay is the only certainty to return, with Rutten being the most likely of the others.

So, who comes out?

The popular answer here on BF is obviously Reilly. He had a shocker yesterday, repeatedly finding Port Adelaide players with his kicks. However, his previous two games were very good and that may be enough to save him (for one more week at least). Porplyzia was the player subbed out, despite having played well in the first half. He was also one of the last players selected, coming into the team when Laird & Kerridge dropped out. He's also clearly in his last season, so the motivation for selecting him against GWS won't be high.

The selectors will also mull over what to do with their tall defenders. GWS have three high quality tall forwards, who will all need to be guarded. Talia will take one of them - that's a no brainer. Otten will probably get another. That leaves Luke Thompson, who did nothing wrong against Port and deserves another game. This one could go either way, depending on whether Truck was really "rested" or omitted.

My guess..
IN: Mackay, possibly Rutten
OUT: Porplyzia, possibly L Thompson

Can't do it. Don't underestimate GWS at home. If it was at AO we could get away with it but not at their home ground. We absolutely must win this game. In fact every game we play from now on is critical. Can't rest players

Yeah, looking back on my post, I think resting both of Dangerfield and Walker in the same game is probably a bit much. There's absolutely no way Walker is going to play both the GWS and Hawks games though (2 consecutive 6 day breaks) so he simply has to have a spell. I know it's not ideal, but we need to put Tex's wellbeing first here. It has been flagged by the coach several weeks back, and I was pretty surprised he wasn't rested for the Bombers game to be honest.

Tex is a definite out this week. Bookmark it.

With this in mind, I'll adjust my changes to:

Out:
Walker (rest), Reilly (omitted), Lyons (omitted)

In:
Mackay, Laird*, Grigg

* If Laird and Kerridge are both deemed unfit, then Atkins or Hartigan get a run (depending on how we view the matchups)

** If Hartigan or Rutten are selected, Otten goes to the forward line to cover Tex's absence.

He's actually played 1 and a half games. I agree he needs another week in the twos though.

DMac Grigg Laird

Reilly Martin Porp

Wouldnt be shocked if Tex is rested as well.

people are requesting we make up to 5 changes to a team that just beat the side on top of the ladder by 4 goals..........craziness at its finest

Reilly - Out
Porps - Stays. We have been murdered due to poor foot skills this year and people want to drop the best kick/decision maker at the club.
Otten/L Thompson - One needs to go to make room for bigger defender, either Truck or Hartigan
One of Pods, Lynch or Walker out - Either Pods or Lynch (not sure why people thought he played well) dropped or Walker rested

Side should look something like;

F: Porps Jenkins Lynch
HF: Betts Pods Wright
C: Crouch Danger Sloane
HB: Smith Talia Jaensh
B: Brown Hartigan LT
R: Jacobs ST Douglas
IC: Mackay Martin Laird
Sub: Lyons

...even finer

Players don't deserve to be dropped after that. Rutten shouldn't be played, but he will come in because of his standing. One of kerridge of laird will play if fit.

In: Rutten, Laird/Kerridge, Makcay
Out: Thompson (Unfair, but truck...), Lyons, Porps

Its interesting we looked a much better midfield when we didn't have a tagger, and everyone was just hunting the ball. Crouch for Kerridge in the midfield made a big difference. Maybe Kerridge will find it hard to come back in?

Got those the wrong way around but I know where you're coming from.

I don't think Rutten will play personally. Hartigan is a real chance though. I seem to remember him destroying Patton last time.

The only certainty this week is Lyons making way for Mackay IMO. Everything else is guesswork.

What I'd like to see for the GWS game:

Lyons rotating through the centre, showed enough to warrant an extended period in the middle against GWS
Luke Thompson stays, and cements his spot in our defensive group
Hartigan in / Reilly out ... time has caught up with Reilly, it's time to gracefully retire and make way for youth
Mackay in / Martin out ... no contest for mine, Martin showed guts but has not done enough to keep out Mackay.
Porps to become our permanent sub for remainder of 2014, before retiring from AFL - I don't think the sub vest suits a young player mentality.

Loved having B. Crouch and Lynch back last week, looking forward to seeing them improve another notch.

Long term, Hartigan has to take Rutten's spot - so I suppose the question is how many games does Truck have left in him and which ones? I'm guessing they would want as many games as possible into Hartigan in case Truck cannot play out the season and we need a big defender at the pointy-ish end.

There was talk of Truck and Sando being in constant discussions and I think Big Ben would be very clear of his role for the remainder of his final season. (as a true champion he would be thinking of the team above his own needs)

Henderson must play when he is fit, and it should be Otten that he pushes out. I like Otten - but the upside of Henderson seems bigger to me ... it might be fanciful memories of Hendo breaking lines and HITTING TARGETS!! We'll see.

The fact that we have someone of M Crouch's potential easing himself into his career is a massive bonus - add in the likes of Grigg and Cameron sitting outside of the current 22 and we aren't looking too bad for the next phase of team development.

Something like:

B: Hartigan, Talia, Brown
HB: L.Thompson, Smith, Jaensch
C: Crouch, Dangerfield, Sloane
HF: Betts, Podsiadly, Lynch
F: Walker, Jenkins, Wright
RUCKS: Jacobs, S.Thompson, Douglas
INTERCHANGE: Lyons, Otten, Mackay
SUB: Porplyzia

Video above wasn't enough of a response to your post.

Your not sure why people thought he played well? By three quarter time he was third in our disposal tally, ended up equal sixth,....second in marks.....laid big tackles.....had four shots on goal.....Is almost our most important player (quote from sando)....runs harder than anyone else.....would have had 25+ if reilly could hit a target.....and it was his first game back after having three injuries this year...

But lets drop him......

Not sure if you have personal issues with the tank engine, or you just have absolutely no idea about footy. I hope its the former

You also want porps to stay.....wow. He only played because of late withdrawals, theres no spot in the forward line for him, and your reason for keeping him is because he is the best decision maker.....with a 53% disposal efficiency in the game. Would hate to see the disposal efficiency of players that aren't up to scratch with porps decision making and elite kick...

I want to see some selection rewards for us winning a game. Players should know that winning will result in little or no change at selection, so they do everything every week to make sure the team wins; instead of worrying about personal performance

If theres 3+ changes this week, very dissapointing

This is a brilliant video and is some of the best tackling I have seen ALL 22 players execute for god knows how many year.

We NEED to bring this sort of intensity to GWS. A young side that has been up and about lately, throw them around a bit and really put them under the pump. Cannot afford to get complacent and expect the result to take care of itself.

I know port had 90 odd tackles to our 60, did we have that much more of the ball than them.

Speaking of Otten and him not getting any love/being underated, he features 4 times with his tackles in that along with being the second one on top with that Sloane tackle on Gray to make sure the ball didn't come loose and another where Mitchell got a small kick in which he knocked out of bounce.

He's great defensively and I don't understand why so many want him out of the side for the likes of Hartigan/L.Thompson.

That's a really immature attitude. The best teams are ruthless at selection - no matter how good the team was last week, if it can be improved, then we need to do it.

I'd rest Paddy.

I'd drop Reilly for Hendo.
I'd drop Otten for Truck (structure - and I'd like LT to get a decent run).
I'd drop Porps for M Crouch.
I'd drop Pods for Mackay or Grigg.

An okay half and we're all back on the Porps bandwagon? He's had a year and a half of poor decision making, poor skills and butter fingers. He isn't what he was in 2009 and he's not getting back there. Keeping him in is a step backwards for the team.

Understand the sentiment here but that is all a bit over the top. I couldnt see any team or coach anywhere doing that after beating the top team.
