Redden stinks. Let's not play this game where we pretend Priddis is magically turning players into spuds by virtue of him standing next to them

It is extremely unlikely that Redden suddenly becomes a gun through dropping Priddis.

I think he'd play better as the main inside mid but is still shit regardless, yes.

Looks like Parti will definitely debut. Article on him on the Eagles site. But for who will be the question.
Also a video with DV about how he wants to make his AFL debut. Actually was pretty enlightening- given he only really started running in February he's progressing well.

Make it happen eagles!

I'll be at the game next Thursday (my first in about 2 years- also get to run around on subi for a bit prior which will be fun) I'm yet to see a loss in the home and away games I've been to. Hoping that trend continues!

He might thrive being the main guy inside. That's what he was recruited for- you'd say he's at his fittest he's been since he got here.

We won't know unless we try, I suppose. I don't know why given all the chances he has had thus far, but I still have a hope he forms part of our best 22 in a successful side.

Darling is shit. Time to re-asses without him. He doesn't even play like a footballer. He makes bad decisions, plays for frees at the slightest contact, skills are average, doesn't apply any forward pressure anymore, doesn't know how to extend his arms to take a mark, doesn't work hard enough, is average below his knees and is generally a weak prick on the field. Who cares what position he's in so long as it's at East Perth.
Not to mention his mental fragility with set shots

Hes shown that he can only play as an inside mid. With all the rotations and requirement for flexibility, players like he are redundant. Look around the league. Priddis, thompson, swallow, watson are players who are waning or really on the outer due to being severely limited (and yes sure, aging) players. If all you can do is play that position you need to be able to transition back quickly to cover the defence and assist that way.

You've got to have another string in your bow these days, that's for sure.

Have we ever tried him in a negating role similar to the role Scooter plays at the cats? I think they can play similar roles- someone who can at least be physical at the contest but also play a negating role as well. I could live with that.

I think that's the role we've been trying him in but he's nowhere near quick enough to react to stop the explosive types.

I think this assumption that he was playing the Priddis role at Brisbane can get a bit overplayed. In his breakout year/s Redden was playing in a bottom side and still had Simon Black, Rockliff and a developing Zorko around him. I doubt many WC fans really watched enough Brisbane games in 2011-2013 to have a clear enough understanding of how he played back or what his role was.

One thing is for sure, watching old videos you can tell the guy has been beaten into submission at the Eagles. He plays afraid now. He has no flair and doesn't look like he wants to be there at all. I think he has lost the desire to play a bit and/or something isn't right with our coaching/player management. Not enough players look confident out there and we can't seem to get close to the best out of a lot of guys

The redden I remember was a tackling machine- but he'd rack up plenty of contested possessions, but also be capable of kicking a goal and be useful if not tidy on the outside.

In 2011 he kicked 14 goals, 11 in 2012, 9 in 2013- we haven't got that goal scoring output from any of our inside midfielders for years. (bar shuey, who is by far our best inside/outside mid)

A long time ago, yes, but shows he can do it with the right support- as you mentioned he had some decent midfielders around him.

With us, he isnt either inside or outside. Which makes me wonder if giving him a crack at the main inside role may encourage the other parts of his game to come out, rather than forcing him to develop into a role he isn't comfortable with.

Apart from a select few (Yeo, Gov & JK) it appears Simmo is not getting the best out of the players. Would love to know what the real problem is, for there's obviously something very wrong in the camp??

Re redden I rekon we need to to Jetta and play him in the 2s for an extended run and bring him back for Priddis a month or less after the by.

Whilst I generally agree, Im having flashbacks to that early 2015 final vs Hawks where Priddis was out and Hutchings and go played the game of their lives.

And the gold coast game a few years back when Hutch first came in while Priddis was out and we beat a team with a midfield of Abblett, Prestia, Bennell and i think JOM.

We beat a bottom five side at home by 17 points. I don't think that's quite on the same level as the 2015 QF win.

Never said it was, i just said we beat a midfield consisting of good players. By the way, that same bottom team beat us on the weekend...and i think they are lower this year then the other time i was talking about. ;)

But how many times have we beat that midfield and better ones with Priddis?

Not defending Priddis and I think he should be dropped and retire but I think there is too much of a small sample size without him to make an argument on the performances when he's not there.

Well if its the best performance our midfield has had, and it was without that player, then we can only go by those performances because our MC will not drop him to see if it would repeat itself more than those few times.

I'm not sure we beat their midfield that day. They won clearances, contested possessions and inside 50s despite Cox giving the mids an armchair ride (60 hitouts to 33).

So darling child was born on Friday before the game prematurely. Could there be a possibility he takes a week or two off? There's things in life that's way bigger than footy and you wouldn't blame him if he does.
