This is going to be unpopular but I was watching Lewis and I don’t think he was as bad as people made out. The handball flub was ridiculous but every player has a moment like that. Even though he’s older he’s been parachuted into the AFL into a team in crisis.

I think he’s the kind of player who if left in a whole season would kick 25 goals and do a job. Miles behind what our other candidates can do but handy to have if you have injuries.

A very valid opinion.

My only differing take is if Lobb is fit he can play the forward ruck role significantly better Lewis, and Buss can take his pace back there and not be a massive drop off down back. With JOD also out I am not sure that still stands with Gards or Coffield replacing JOD or just Leave Lobb back.

I am actually more concerned to see both Bramble and Williams much higher up the field, much much higher

Is Arty still unavailable? I'd like to see him and Dolan back in the side. We went in too tall last week imo
Agree and with Croft and Emmett being 2 of those we are understrength, underdeveloped and inexperienced. You can develop one at a time but 2 .....

He kicks low, flat drop punts into the forward 50 a lot more effectively than you'd think for a player of his position and size, and because opponents have no idea who he is and that he's a left footer, they're always shading onto his right foot by default too.

I know this isn't really the point of your post, but I think Emmett would have a higher standing reach than Smith. Long neck syndrome for Smith.
You are probably right.

I do like the long term look of Emmett, but based on the last couple of weeks evidence I think it’s time to give Smith a run in the Ruck. He may struggle too but I expect him to body up better against Grundy around the ground.

I bet a lot on lines and I was having this discussion. The stat models love WB. They rated them very highly last year as well when they were smashing weak teams and losing badly to top 8 teams.

Another guy uses a different model than me and has been backing them in last couple of weeks. Likes them this week because of "system" instead of players. I'm on Syd and this looks an absolute horror spot for you guys. 3 games with 6 day breaks in a row with young or banged up players. I would argue you have no system with 2 key backs likely out, no ruckman and now missing your key forward.

Libba missing and even if Bont plays it's likely he's hampered and probably get the Jordon blanket anyway.

I think the stat only models have their advantages but in cases like this they are simply too slow to react.
It's the very fact that by definition one of you and the other guy, despite both being thoughtful about the game, are backing opposite sides, that means one of you has to be the mug punter. And that's all that the bookmakers need to make money out of this game. If you both wager an identical amount on the line, it doesn't matter that one of you got it right, it only matters that another bloke gets it wrong.

As a lockdown defender.
Back up ruck to Lobb....Back up key defender.
Lobb rucks, Lachy on bench.
Lachy 2nd ruck, Lobb rests down back.
Lachy can at least compete against Grundy. Emmett just physically isn't ready, Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Rest Bont and get him right, 0 tackles, 0 marks is putrid for your captain and best player. If Bont plays we will still get flogged by 50 so what is the point in playing him underdone?

Sydney playing two debutants Thursday night is interesting. Maybe a few senior players being rested on the short week?

Also no training announcement or family video call would lead me to think no Lachie Smith debut this week? Potentially could still come at the Captain's run tomorrow I guess...

It's so funny how everyone has said that maybe we should tank this game because of all our injuries and reset for the rest of the year.

Say we do that, Sydney have gotten wind of how we're Bontempelli and Richards,

Sydney, now pushing for top 4/top/2, are thinking maybe the same thing - play strongest team in home games off 7+ day breaks, rest players in away games off (their own) 6 day break, who cares, wins or lose.

But then Sydney see how we're resting players, so they can see if they can pinch a win, see how those debutants "mysteriously" get an illness on Wednesday

But then because those players are playing, they might smash us and embarrass us, so we play Bontempelli and Richards again.

Then Sydney realise that we're playing a strong team and would be up for the reunion, so their strongest players that they magically were deciding to rest are late outs on Thursday

It's a weird sort of prisoner's dilemma game of chicken if both teams tried to do this

Might be tomorrow morning. Social media guy might be off sick.

There’s a multitude of options.

The problem for the coaches is that with things the way they are any way they go they’re robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Glad to see Smith getting a crack. I've been on this wagon after Emmetts first week. Like to see Davidson get dropped as he's been weak so far this year. Would be good to see more from West this weekend.
