For just this week I'm going to tip us.

Matt Lloyd called us "soft" last night. If that doesn't fire us up then we might as well pack up for the year.

It does of course raise a follow-up question ... if we can be fired up by a media pundit calling us soft why can't we be fired up every week? Or even most weeks?

As I saw Brisbane players put our guys heads into the dirt without consequence I couldn't help but think of the GWS game. That's a tad of an extreme example, but I hate how we stood up in that game and for a couple of weeks after before retreating back into our shells.

I know discipline is a hallmark of Bevo's coaching, and it's why we used to (at least, as perceived by others) get the better of the umpiring. But it's so disheartening to watch. An acceptable level of physicality should be the norm for this team. Not just saved for when we play GWS.

I would argue Keath is in that group. Gets visibly frustrated by mistakes (without being obnoxious about it), always directing players and just seems so emotionally invested in the outcome of games. Probably the only other player who I've never seen put his head down or give up
I'd also add cordy to that has consistently saved goals in the last 3 weeks with third efforts and running down faster players

When I looked through our list, Cordy was the very next one I'd consider in that group. He makes mistakes (less and less often as time goes on) but you can never accuse him of not giving 110%

My theory on English;
Training restrictions mean he cant learn what he needs to learn by not playing senior footy, even still is rucking against Sweet or Trengove at training really going to prepare him for Gawn and Grundy? Playing a quarter in scratch match for a run wont either. He has a tank, he has the hands, he has the ground ball skills...He needs as many centre ruck contests against AFL ruckman as he can.

Yeah, he wont be as effective and yeah it might cost us right now, but I'd say they see it as short term loss for long term gain.
Have to argue with you about English 'having the hands'. I have never seen anyone fumble as much as he does in general play and doesn't hold anywhere near enough marks for a guy of his size. Would seriously consider him wearing gloves to try and get his confidence back.

That's not my impression of him at all, apart from his last 2-3 games. That's with regard to both marking and general ball handling.

Anyway, nearly ALL of the side has been fumbly in those recent games. (Daniel the most obvious exception)

I think it's another thing that we can put down to him just being burnt out

Cordy Keath Wood
Williams Naughton JJ
VDM Libba Richards
McRae Bruce Dicko
West. English . Wallis
Sweet. Bont. Daniel
Dunkley. Smith Cavarra Young
Don’t mind this lineup.
We are so predictable right now that challenging a few of them in different roles could be just what we need.
McLean plays ahead of Richards or Young tho.

I’ve stacked the half back and wings with speed so that’s why I have those boys there.

McLean I actually forgot so could be in there as you said but not at the cost of any speed

As much as I like this, they'll never play Naughton back and would probably play Bruce back before him.

Yeah I doubt they want to play a balanced team because that would make sense and why would we want to do that !!? 🤦🏼‍♂️

I like this line up. I particularly like English to the forward line and giving Sweet a go in the ruck. Well thought out.

Because instead, then you would get our worst nightmare and Schache comes into the team. Bev ain't going to play 2 rucks (as much as I want him to).

Naughton won't go back, nor should he.

More rotation of our midfielders. Round 11 stats aren't out yet but in round 10 we yet again used five players on-ball for the entire game. Port used seven through there. Macrae and Bont both attended 14 centre bounces - Port's top three only attended 12. We have the stock there to rotate this and it is madness that we refuse to do so.

Here are the centre bounce setups for R11...

Just saying a four week penalty for a second strike. Coincidence?

The biggest change from the previous policy was the naming of players who recorded a second strike, rather than their third.

A strike is issued to any player who possesses, uses or deals an illicit drug, returns a positive sample or refuses to submit a sample to AFL drug testers.

Under the new policy, a player will receive a $5000 fine for a first strike while also undergoing counselling and target testing.

On the second strike a player's name is made public and he serves a four-match suspension. A third strike incurs a 12-match suspension.
