I ask the question to the people saying my post about dropping spud is stupid are you happy with a back man that burns the football so much? I'm not it's just not Sunday's game have a look straight after half time against the cats simple 20m kick n he missis the target and they go down and score

Basti was one of the positives for us. Kept Kerr to 12 possessions and got 18 himself.

A job a lesser player could have done instead of using one of our playmakers. Just dumb coaching.

Tarrant needs to come out and Warren to come in.

We can't be carrying players who aren't performing.
We know Warren can kick goals and Taz doesn't look close to it atm.

I pray Edwards can recapture his form against Geelong.
I also hope Petrie can return to his 2011 form. Our forward line was nonexistent today.

Gibson's outperforming LA?

I know Anthony is the new WattsBrownsThomassHales around here, but that, sir, is insane.

He's still top 5 B&F, and very comfortably so.

On the others, Grima's not ready; Edwards could maybe have a spell, because Warren need some reward; Goldstein yes; Speight couldn't hurt as the sub; and LH is a far better option than Tarrant.

I think Gibsons 40 touch 3 goal game warrants a chance if we are allowed to elevate him.

Anthony has to go purely on his not collecting man/ball in that 1 contest yesterday. NMFC must have 1 non negotiable, your turn/you go. He failed that test and a price must be paid. I don't think Levi deserves a spot, he did nothing as Sub and has not been better than anyone in the Reserves. I am not calling for Anthony's head for any other reason.

Grima is ready surely. I don't for a second believe that a full preseason and 3 VFL matches isn't preparation enough to play FB. Delaney can consider himself stiff, he has not been bad as a defender but our backline need all 6 to get touches and help clearing def50 and Grima will be better at this.

I don't think we can elevate Gibson at the moment can we? Curran's off the LTI and Fishy has taken the elevated rookie spot. Gibson will have to keep plugging away until mid year.

As for Grima, I haven't seen any VFL, but match reports suggest that he is still being nursed along. Until he can get through games then he can't be considered.

Yes, but I thought the same after round 1 where he simply refused to chase Lovett-Murray as he ran forward to kick a vital goal. Maybe LA has some incriminating photos of the coach?

The problem with the changes mentioned and also throughout the year is that they rarely address any of the problems on the field directly. Our forward line is rag tag at the moment so we need to come up with a forward strategy first then try and fill it with players capable of actually carrying it out.

We have compromised with Hamish, lets not continue. We need a forward in the goal square, one around the 50 and another who can lead up. 3 bigger guys. We need another medium sized player who can take a mark and a couple of quicks. fill that.

When will people learn to wait at least 12 hours after a loss before you post stupid comments.

A couple of points:
  1. We are still developing as a team and our current game plan and team selection is designed to accelerate that development.
  2. LA is frustrating with his turnovers and lack of physical intensity but he knows how to find the ball and should be retained.
  3. We lost the game because of our poor clearance work and Weagles drawing high free kicks. Losing the clearances stuffed up our forward structure and lead to the lopsided I50s.
  4. Tarrant is looking lost out there ... time for a change.
  5. Edwards is one dimensional so I'd prefer other options.
  6. We look 1 KPD short.
  7. Warren & Garlett deserve a go.
In: Goldstein, Hansen, Warren, Garlett
Out: Tarrant, Pedersen, Mullett, Edwards

Firrito L Delaney Thompson
Atley Hansen Wright

Bastinac Ziebell Wells
Goldstein Swallow Cunnington

Adams Petrie Harvey
Thomas McIntosh Warren

Macmillan Anthony Harper Garlett

out: Tarrant
in: Goldy/Warren

tempted to bring Brad McKenzie in this week but probably give him 1 more week in the VFL then bring him in

  1. Agree 100% with all that.

Great post, agree with pretty much all of it.

Warren definitely deserves a go and we need some firepower in the fwd line badly.

I think Hansen should come in too at CHB with doggies prob playing Jones, Cordy, Roughead down in their fwd line.

In fairness to our forwards yesterday the style of football we played basically made it impossible for them, especially in the first half. Edwards spent most of his time forward of the wing and when we got the fast break no one was forward to get the ball, Petrie has been down all year ( apart from GC ) and his marking hasn't been as good as last year and Tarrant I just can't see the upside of. People calling for Edwards to go are crazy and if you think Warren would have played better with that game style we played yesterday then you are crazy. At least Azza can win games, Warren will never do that!

Cant blame edwards for doing his job (first half anyway) that was asked from him by Brad Scott. The question should be, why in the hell was Edwards ask to do a defensive job on Hurn when Edwards is our leading goal scorer? From the outset seemed we worried about them instead of playing our own game.

I think we should try Edwards and Warren, drop Taz and run Petrie higher (as he has been lately)

Surely we have to reward Warren's bags of goals in the 2's and I would think it would be in the next 3 weeks rather than up against a top team.

Its a tough one at the moment because as some of you say, yesterday's game did nothing for our fwds so maybe its just a structural/ game plan change??

I'd be happy with a few changes this week - with coming back from perth
will assume that Scotty Mac wwont be right

Expected...
Out:
Tarrant (looked lost and down on confidence, esp when subbed off. Not seeing improvement like we have with Mullet)
In:
Goldy (was unlucky not to earn recal after last week's VFL effort)
McKenzie (has been close to selection, might as well try him against the dogs)

Potentials...
Out:
Anthony (wouldn't be opposed to him missing just to send a message about courage)
Pederson (did ok. enough to hold his spot though?)
Delaney (didn't have the best game, would be on the block when Grima is ready)
Harper (i'd like to keep him in, but could make way for someone else)
In:
Hansen (reports indicate he did well on the weekend, might be time for a look)
Milky (has been consistent. Could come in for Tarrant if Goldy is also in b/c we'd have H and Petrie fwd)

Safe:
Mullet - not entirely safe but would be unlucky to get dropped. Has done his job
Edwards - our top goalscorer is going no-where
Spud - has deficiencies that were more evident due to no McMahon, but still a general
Wright - doing a good job

I'd like to see Atley released to the midfield, with Hunter/spud taking his role. Hansen in to CHB with he and Delaney the key defenders. His pace, size and evasiveness around the stoppages are needed. Pedersen added nothing of value.

Out: Pedo - Mullett - Tarrant
In: Hansen - Goldy - McKenzie

B: Thompson - Delaney - Firitto
HB: Macmillan - Hansen - Wells
C: Atley - Swallow - Bastinac
HF: Adams - Petrie - Harper
F: Edwards - McIntosh - Thomas
R: Goldstein - Ziebell - Cunnington
Int: Harvey - Wright - Anthony
Sub: McKenzie

Warren – I say he, Thomas and Edwards can co-exist. This sort of application, form and improvement needs a go. Appears to no longer be a one trick pony (his words). All of the these 3 can work their way up the ground as avenues into the forward line and Warren has the capacity to bruise anyone in his path.

Petrie - .. is it time yet? Can we question Bambi? Love the big fella. Yes there are midfield issues, gameplan issues etc. Drew’s in shit form tho. I suggested giving him a spell for the GC game to freshen him up and wish we had. Things just aren’t clicking for Drew, there’s no value in dropping him to VFL but his poor form is a reality. But if he doesn’t turn it on v Dogs or Port then we’re in for some interesting reviews.

Anthony – do a post check. Been concerned about his approach to the contest and even his attack on the loose ball (waits for the easy bounce to him) for a long time. Yesterday no surprise at all. Does the side have any kind of non-negotiable playing standards? What do the leadership group spruik internally? Surely Anthony’s squibbing was at odds our values? Surely...?? Why wasn’t he locked in the VFL and only played when he addressed these things? Nothing’s changed. He’s got some decent attributes but the bloke is mid-20s and should be setting the standard for the kids. He isn’t.

Tarrant – f*** me. There’s gifting games for development – and there’s throwing games with stupidity. One of the slowest (both in mind and foot) players we’ve had going for a while. Little physical impact. Was never in any sort of consistent solid VFL form. That’s 2 games he was given as a treat. Time to go back and kick the door down. Can see the merit in the feeding games principle but there has to be some common sense applied.

McKenzie – flipside of Tarrant. While his form is decent rather than extraordinary and physically he’s a while off – what he does have is absolutely required right now. Without McMahon we have fk all effective long disposal out of the back half. Would like to see Brad given a taste and players block for and feed him the pill to let a kid with clearly outstanding vision and disposal set us up a bit. It’d be nice to give him longer but the position is vacant and his application has been accepted.

Black – see Tarrant. Is there a particular reason this kid isn’t getting spoon fed the games? Offers a lot more than Robbie imo and has actually shown glimpses.

Lachie – Glad he put up a bests performance. I have faith he’ll still make it with us. Not against him taking Tarrant’s spot.

Harper – looks shot at the moment. Absolute gem, gonna be the best but maybe time for a consolidating run in the VFL. Don’t think this will happen though.

Others: Greenwood, Garlett, Goldstein – happy for any of these to come straight in.

At the least:
OUT: Anthony, Tarrant, Harper
IN: Mckenzie, Goldstein, Warren

A quick point - we played all three in our two wins this year (the "massive" scalps of GWS & Melbourne) but Roughy spent most of his time in the back half for both of those games, and was subbed out at halftime against GWS as he was ineffectual.
Cordy was out with injury, not sure if he's back this week. Grant is also in the mix after one week out. Two weeks ago Cordy & Grant were no 1 & 2 in our tackle count

Petrie - .. is it time yet? Can we question Bambi? Love the big fella. Yes there are midfield issues, gameplan issues etc. Drew’s in shit form tho. I suggested giving him a spell for the GC game to freshen him up and wish we had. Things just aren’t clicking for Drew, there’s no value in dropping him to VFL but his poor form is a reality. Unfortunately for us, Petrie always seems to play well against the Bulldogs. At a guess he's going to get played back into form this week, at our expense.

Goldi > Pedo

Hansen > Tarrant

Straight easy swaps so lets make it happen & start settling the team.

I'd like to give Warren a go, but we would have to rest one of the younger fellas. Warren deserves it, and has the big body we need.
