Exactly this. I was a huge fan of VDM early on and only as a defender unfortunately now even that looks beyond reach. Crippling repeated injuries coupled with failure to continue to improve on his early development has him up against it, especially being stacked in his preferred position.
I was one of the few who didn't mind him in defence last year. He isn't first picked but is okay cover.

We sign these depth players for one year too long

I'll put my opposition supporter's beany on for a minute and cast my eyes over this Bulldogs squad. I see a small number of stars, a slightly larger group of decent but often inconsistent players and a large group made up of cheap imports, chronic underachievers and players just trying to make their way in the big time. It's not a squad that sends shivers down my spine but hey, they have the Bont so anything is possible. What's that old saying? Beware the Ides of March.

I'm all for a shorter defence but it is to be opposition dependent. It's crazy to see the backflip from this time last year when we played three slow key tall defenders no matter the opposition to now only one no matter what.
3 key forwards vs our 1 key defender. What could possibly go wrong?!

Why get games into Bedendo who came into pre-season in ripping condition winning the time trial and was apparently very good in last week's VFL game, when you can give Vandermeer chance 41 to prove himself.

He clearly proved himself with the just 1 score involvement from 10 disposals, having as set shot from 35m out fail to register a score, 10 possessions that led to 3 clangers and only 130metres gained. I don't know what you're on about.

I'm okay with McNeil. He had some good showings in the practice matches. One more chance.

VDM is a no go for me, particularly up forward. He is not a forward's arseh*le.

GC have Casboult, Walter, King (who is in seriously good form). We have Jones as our only key defender. Buku is going to get mauled.

Some impact Matt Egan is having.

Keath,Gardner,JOD all injured or not ready.Who do we have to bring in? Croft? Buss? High risk there…

The key defender curse continues.Darcy to CHB?

Yeah when red and JJ were out he fit in nicely as a break glass type but now Bramble is ahead of him aswell. He certainly isn't a guy you need to squeeze in out of position because he can't be left out. Surely that small forward role is better suited to someone who is actually a natural forward Scott would be a welcome inclusion at this point if we don't want to see what Clarke can do.

I don’t think Luke Beverage is stable at the moment. Unfortunately the legend far outstrips the human now inhabiting his body.
This is a bit sad really. He is tempting the board to sack him to make himself the source of pity? There would hardly be a supporter backing him anymore.
Does he not have friends? Chris Grant tried but got cast aside. Luke Darcy is too conflicted to do anything. We don’t have an footy expert on the board without a conflict. We seem 2014 level basket case.
I am just astounded that Vandermeer and McNeill are anywhere near the 26, after 2 of the worst efforts I’ve ever seen in the red white and blue last Sunday.

High risk to bring say Buss in? Gold Coast are debuting a KPF drafted last year, prefect game to give him a run

Instead watch a Walter kick 5 on debut manned by Coffield, Dale and Richards all game

This is the absolute problem with beverage he values versatility to the detriment of players and the team. Rather than pick the best player for a position he picks 22 blokes he wants and then tries to fit them into unnatural positions.

Under him we have had multiple midfielders as small forwards (Libba, Dunkley, Smith, Garcia) small defenders as small forwards (JJ, VDM) our best intercept defender as a forward (Wood), not to mention Young as a Ruck.

He backs multiple blokes in regardless of form and the more they get criticised the more he sticks with them.

Honestly had a gut full of this bloke and him playing at coaching with this team without giving it a chance to succeed
