As I mentioned in another thread. Over the past 12 years - we have played a new draftee in round 1 only twice (Vince 2006, Smith 2011).

We had absolutely no reason not throw in Matt Crouch. With our midfield group missing Douglas/Vince/VB from last years starters - we could have forced him in.

Makes you wonder how much talent we have squandered because we didn't give them a taste of AFL football.

It's unfair to drop him after one game, but we're in the unique position of not knowing if he has what it takes. A double whammy of incompetence.
Yep. It's been happening for years. Drip feeding games to fringe players, rotating them in and out of the side, finishing each season with the whole lot of them not progressing, not having gained any meaningful experience, and us still not knowing enough about them to make a list management decision on them.

It's called going nowhere.

I don't like the idea of Martin being scrap-heaped without a few games in a row. But in terms of putting the best fit and available on the park this week, those changes make sense. Couple on notice though;
Thommo - Matt crouch/Lyons combo
Pods - Jenkins

Could argue shaw - Reilly, but that's opposite to my 'out with the old' premise.
I agree, would like to see him get a few games.

Can't think of who makes way though. My real concern is they drop Lyons and keep Porps.

Exactly.. Clubs right across the league have new players in their first line ups of the year, almost never do we..
Seeing as we're playing Port this week, again last week they play Impey and Clurey as examples..

Brodie Martin will be 26 this year, has been on the list since 2009 and has played 19 games.

Somebody, somwhere, has ****ed up. No two ways about it.

Hartigan facing a 1 game ban at SANFL Tribunal tonight, for those calling for his inclusion
Suspension stands.

Crows players don't get reported.

Funnily, I'm really starting to like this guy.

Sorry to nit pick but Clurrey was drafted in 2012 not last year.

I expect that Sam Shaw will play every game this year if he doesn't get injured (and that sure is a big fat IF).
In his other short stints between injuries he has steadily improved his disposal and effectiveness once he has a few games under his belt.

I would bring in M Crouch and Laird.

Out - Porps and Martin.

If Dougy passes the fitness test (will it be televised?) then Bob will probably miss out. I fear that they may drop Jarryd which I would argue is plain dumb. I would like to see a new more adventurous selection policy but I don't expect to see it. I do not believe that we can afford to play both Podz and LJ and we need to increase our tackling in the F50. Charlie come on down.

If LJ does play (and on balance he deserves to play) and he marks the ball with 90 seconds to go and we are 9 points up, DON"T PLAY ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dropping Pods will reduce the tackling pressure I50. He was poor in most other areas last week, but his tackling pressure is fantastic for a big bloke.

Sando said on Triple M earlier that we will definitely make a couple of changes... I reckon all signs are looking like Dougie and Laird in, Porpoise and Martin out.
Except Porps will cash in the gold pass, Lyons will be dropped, and Thompson will get 25 ineffective possessions while the Port mids run forward with no opponent.

Id say 2 changes are enough and given Laird and Douglas are first 22 locks they come in. I dont reckon Martin and Porps aside anyone was drop worthy although some will want to pull the digit out this week.

Crouch will play no doubt, but hes a pure mid at this stage so unless we lose faith in Thommo he may need to wait a couple more weeks. Wouldn't play him as sub either, has to be in the starting side and bring him off if/when he runs outta gas.

Not really that simple if Dougie is fit.
I'd be happy for any of Podsiadly, Jaensch, Brown, Martin or Porplyzia to be squeezed out of the team for M Crouch to sneak in. Yes most aren't exactly like for like but all teams have enough flexibility now to cover this. And you can't tell me any of those players will have more impact on our football club from now on than Crouch, therefore he should be picked ahead of them every time.

Nobody now. He should've played last week.
That bit I agree with. To be fair we picked guys fit and in form so he missed out, it's just we shouldn't have been fooled by the PS form of some, although some others worked out ok.

Pods no, although ineffective he needs to play currently. Brown is still young and came off a ripper year but the rest I wholeheartedly agree with
