Round 9
Wazzas
v Sin City Swamprats at Van Cortlandt Park

474bb51f05a33360d70f18cbde9fd18c.gif

ND was in full flight on Saturday night! :D

The Rats have been a bogey side for us for as long as I can remember, perhaps most notably knocking us out of a prelim in S27 on their way to the flag. So hosting them coming off an ominous loss, our second in three matches, had a familiar feeling of inevitability about it heading in.

Off the field, the Rats have generally been as underwhelming as they've been dangerous on the field, with too much left to too few, with them often taking refuge in other threads when the going has got a bit too tough. That said, with the loss of Far Kern and a tiring philby, not to mention a more genial general approach with the likes of Gremos bloke softening their edge, and a tame week off the track ensued. A festive feel around the club saw many forego precious sleep heading into the match, some even losing all semblance of faculties as the game grew nearer, a sure sign of qooty success as we know.

On to the match, and after giving up a two goal half time lead after a seesawing first half, a Swamprats surge in the second half looked sure to happen, as has done on several occasions in the past, as we failed to capitalise on early chances. But instead it was us that responded in the third quarter, with a six goal to one blitz catching the Rats off guard, and we would go on to repeat the dose in the final stanza, a massive 11 goals to three second half wiping the Rats off the park as we cruised to an impressive 32 point win in front of an adoring Van Cortlandt crowd.

After accounting for a Swamprats side who've had our measure in recent times, we've opened up a handy buffer at the top of the ladder, with a win and a smidge of percentage separating us from the second placed Bombers. We have equalled our best start to a season across the first 9 games since S26, where we went 7-2 after a massive 7 game winning streak to kick off the season.

Dour in defence - RelaxMax was the pick of the defenders on Sunday, as another of our defenders in All-SFA form this season, she collected a handy 11 touches to go with two marks as she held her direct opponent goalless.

Midfield maestro - The Half Back led the engine room on Sunday, his 29 touches and two goals rivalling veteran forward zackah for best afield honours. Halfy's enjoying some season in his first in Warriors colours and Sunday was one of his best. While Tonga Bob goes from strength to strength in another All-SFA calibre display on the wing, his 30 touches and 5 marks giving us some much needed dash and carry in the second half demolition job.

Fearsome up front - zackah was the clear standout in attack, as he monstered a hapless Rats defence kicking 5 straight from as many touches. Kicked 3 to lead the fight back in the second half, but perhaps his most telling goals came early, his two in the first half when the game was up for grabs keeping us in the contest.

Been a while since Halfy gave a posting update so I'll give one.

Over the half way point and still getting over 15 contributors each weeks which is fantastic. DockerDen5215 and Tonga Bob have been our most prolific so far.

On the flip side, We would like to see our VC harry000 back up and posting again after a few inactive rounds, we also have no seen Raveneyes in a while.

@radroo, get a bit more involved this week and call some Demons flogs campaigners.

Last week was our least active week thus far, but it is no surprise considering the Rats are not the most engaging team in the comp, 16 posters and 479 posts is still solid.

Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of young toxic too, I like the cut of that man's jib.

Test Tickle - 100 Games

Time to lather up Wazzas, and get around our prized S31 recruit and rampaging ruckman here at Coney Island, Test Tickle, he's celebrating his 100th SFA match this week as we take on the Demons in a Match of the Round classic.

Having joined the club during a blockbuster off season for the club heading into Season 31, Testy has crossed over from the Bears and shown himself to be the consumate clubman, getting around the group and becoming a really important part of our mix this season. Having debuted in my rookie season back in S26 as part of the Spambears recruiting bonanza, including our very own kdavva74, Testy has gone on to become a household name in the competition, winning mutliple All-SFA selections, finishing a career high 4th in the beez trophy back in S28 to prove he not only has the qooty ability, but is also one of the league's great entertainers. He also went on to take the reigns as Bears skipper during a particularly tumultuous time in the club's history and has made a fantastic start to his time here at VCP as he looks to reignite his career here with the Wazzas.

To celebrate the occasion in style, despite the ever humble Testy asking me to keep things low key this week, I've got a nice little surprise planned to make the week a special one as we celebrate the great man in true Coney Island fashion, and yes, a big hot soapy shower after the game on Sunday!!!

To celebrate Testy's 100th SFA game, I figured rather than take a thread to the main board and take Testy's milestone to the league against his wishes, I'd just bring his best mates from across the league to him, so in honour of his incredibly popular '60 seconds with Test Tickle' interview series, I've invited some of the biggest names from the Sweet FA to pay tribute to the great man, in a week long series right here in our team thread for us all to enjoy!

Cue the office meme. :thumbsu:

60 seconds for Test Tickle with Barrybran - Gumbies skipper

1 - What season did Testy debut in the SFA and what clubs has he played with?
Season 26; Las Vegas Bears and Coney Island Warriors

2 - When was the first time he invited you into the showers after a game?
I'm fairly confident it was a preseason match leading into S26. Testy has never been the shy type.

3 - What has been your most memorable Test Tickle moment in your SFA career to date?
There are two that stand out for me. The entire season 26 was a fantastic experience and Testy was a huge part of that. Posting with the likes of Testy, kdavva74, JoshWoodenSpoon and Tandy has always been a highlight of my Sweet FA experience. On an individual level though, seeing Test Tickle place fourth in the S28 beez Trophy was fantastic recognition for a guy who has provided much enjoyment to people across the league in his time on the board.

4 - You are holding a luxurious dinner party in honour of Testy's 100th SFA match, which 4 other current SFA players would he want to be there?
Obviously Dav would come along. In keeping with the Bears' theme though I would invite Genghis Tron, MWPP and tony.

5 - You can only speak in movie quotes, what would you like to say to Testy for his milestone match?
I'm not that great with movies so I'll give this one a pass

6 - You're making your all time favourite SFA XX side, where does Testy play?
He's got to be the ruckman, surely. I'm sure Tigerturbulance will understand.

7 - If you had to describe Testy using food, what would be?
Spaghetti Bolognaise. Fairly simple but can be unique, full of flavour and you generally don't complain about having it regularly.

8 - You and Testy are drinking together in a bar, what's in your hand?
If I answer this question I'll get a day off. Love you Testy ;)

9 - If Testy made the front page of the SFA Times newspaper, what is the headline?
Spambears Reunite

10 - If you could have one piece of personally signed Test Tickle memorabilia, what would it be?
The towel Testy used after his first game
