Oldmate's still in the lead at the halfway point of the season on 17 votes, but the challengers are certainly coming. Centreman and soon to be Ophidian Old Fart (OOF) VC Elton Johns Wig and porcine powerhouse Piggy Smalls are equal in second place on 15. The wing twins A Swallow & FootyGuy13 can't be split a couple of votes further back while after a slow start reigning Frankie TheInjuryFactory is on 12 after polling in the last three matches.

Coney Island Warriors 22.12 (144) defeated Mount Buller Demons 17.7 (109)​

What a difference a couple of weeks make! After round 7 we were stone motherless, we rose from the dead a week later against the Bears and were up against the Mount Buller Demons in round 9.

Led by eventual beez winner Headless, the Deez were looking for a big week on & off the field to celebrate Tarkyn_24 playing his 500th game. And for those playing at home of the four players to reach 500 Sweet FA games, three of them (Mobbs, iDon & Tarks) have played us in their milestone game with the record being 1-1 prior to this week (although the absolute flogging we were handed in Mobbs' 500th felt like three losses).

There was a flaw in the Demons' plan though, and it was one of their own making. While pantskyle was taking his gap year at Mount Buller, he played his 300th game which is kinda a big deal. Unfortunately for pants though, it came and went without as much as a whisper. Any milestone mojo that the Deez had stored up for Tarks' 500th quickly became bad juju, as the pantskyle 309th Game Spectacular quickly became the number one ticket in town.

The game itself started off like a typical milestone game, with the Deez kicking 4 of the first 5 goals. From there we managed to make it a pretty close contest until three quarter time, and that's when the magic happened. A 10 goal to 3 final stanza saw us finish the game off way stronger than our opponents to finish with a 35 point victory and our highest ever score against the Demons - 22.12 (144).

With other results going our way, we finished the round in the top 8 for the first time in ages and had built up a good head of steam as we entered the second half of the season.

The pick of the defenders this week was Freofalcon whose 18 disposals and 5 marks helped to stem the Demon tide, while in a round that wasn't kind to full backs NaturalDisaster did well to limit his opponent to only 8 goals.

The midfield again went to work and on the whole took the points over their opponents, with A Swallow (28 touches/4 marks/2 goals) Elton Johns Wig (21 touches/5 marks/2 goals) TheInjuryFactory (18 touches/8 tackles) & milestone monkey pantskyle (19 touches/5 tackles) the standouts.

Coach The Donald opted for a trident offense this week, with the trio of BEEG TubbsFarquhar & Ambrose Burnside sharing 13 goals between them in an even display, while Snuffaluphagus has continued his good form by linking the midfield and forward line thanks to his 17 touches, 6 marks, 5 tackles & a goal.

Fighting Furies 8.6 (54) lost to Coney Island Warriors 12.8 (80)​

In a week that felt like a month, we travelled to the hippodrome to face a Furies outfit that were still on their bullshit. It ended up being an even spread of contributions both on & off the field on our part, who stared down a core group of e-girls, a former teammate, a player stricken with the clap after a Seymour sojourn, and a pirate. It wasn't pretty, but it was a week. There were some positives out of it though, in particular the engagement of rookie Mesc was great to see. NaturalDisaster was up and about, and FootyGuy13 had some avatar takes that bordered on shithousery.

Our opponents were coming into this round on the bottom of the ladder, and after a three goals to one behind first quarter in rainy conditions it showed. By half time we pulled away to a five goal lead where it remained for the duration of the match, giving us our third win on the trot and a slight rise on the ladder to seventh. We're only a win & percentage out of the top four now, and although we're one of the form teams of the competition at the moment we have some tough opponents ahead of us.

In a season where we'd conceded the most points by the halfway point, keeping our opponents to 8.6 (54) was great to see. Former All-SFA fullback NaturalDisaster was instrumental here, keeping high-flying Furies full forward U2tigers to a solitary major although the back six as a whole (including Mesc Mofra toxic Volbeat & Freofalcon ) can all hold their heads high.

The centreline again did the business. Wingers FootyGuy13 & A Swallow (who led the league in disposals at this point) found plenty of it again in trying conditions, pantskyle & TheInjuryFactory did a lot of the grunt work along with Raveneyes & Elton Johns Wig who ended up going forward to kick 3 goals. And BEEG picked up his third consecutive Michelle Pfeiffer.

Coney Island Warriors 12.7 (79) lost to Roys FFC 15.9 (99)​

We were on a four game unbeaten run as the eventual premiers the Roys came to visit at a point where engagement began to drop, with 13 players posting - down from an average over the first ten weeks of 17.3. One of our bogey teams (we have several), scores were pretty even in the first quarter before a six goal to three second quarter had us behind at the big break. We pegged it back in the third but ran out of steam in the final quarter to eventually go down by 20 points. This left us clinging onto eighth place on the ladder with three teams a game above us and another three teams half a game below.

Onfield highlights included PhatBoy being moved to rover and having a career-best game with 13 disposals and a massive 12 tackles. pantskyle was BOG for us with 30 disposals and 6 tackles, A Swallow had 25 touches to go with 4 marks/3 tackles/1 goal, TubbsFarquhar was shoved up front and had 4 goals from 4 kicks, FootyGuy13 and Elton Johns Wig (23 & 20 touches respectively) found plenty of it and NaturalDisaster floated forward to kick a couple as well.

Coney Island Warriors 10.6 (66) defeated Gumbies FFC 8.7 (55)​

Now that we'd played every other team it was time for the double ups, so we were back to the Gumbies. It was our second week in a row with 13 posters (unlucky for some), and even though the numbers were below 200 it was pretty even between the two teams. We also copped some lousy weather on game day, but that didn't confront us as we put out wellies on and got to work, leading from go to whoa in an upset 11 point victory. This lifted us up one spot on the ladder to our eventual finishing point of seventh.

Pretty even performance across the board, but the highlights were versatile travel agent/pilot Mofra dominating the half back line with 22 disposals and 7 marks in a season-best performance, with FootyGuy13 joining him on 16 disposals and a whopping nine (9) marks, BEEG putting on a wet weather goal kicking clinic bagging five majors ably assisted by Ambrose Burnside who chimed in with two, Raveneyes being thrown in the ruck and beating his opponent around the ground with 17 disposals and 2 goals, TheInjuryFactory doing damage in the guts and A Swallow providing the outside run that we became accustomed to.

Gold City Royals 18.11 (119) lost to Coney Island Warriors 19.9 (123)​

The next round had us travel to the Golden Throne. An unfortunate name for a decent host, where thirteen of us ended up paying a visit during the week. On game day we gave up an 8 goal to 3 first quarter, only to John Farnham the sh*t out of the other three quarters and perform a massive comeback to end up winning by 4 points in a shootout. After the win we found ourselves in sixth spot on the ladder, a game plus a bucketload of percentage off the top 4. Would our rise continue?

This was the notorious game where TheInjuryFactory popped his tap cherry and gave me a chop out, or should I say hit out, in the ruck. BEEG was the star of the show with seven goals in a season best performance, the dynamic wing duo of FootyGuy13 (21 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) & A Swallow (18 disposals/3 marks/1 goal) did their stuff, pantskyle (19 disposals/6 tackles) & stand-in rover PhatBoy (15 disposals/5 tackles) cuddled their way through the opposition while the half forward line of TubbsFarquhar Dinsdale & Piggy Smalls revelled in the conditions. The other shout out in round 13 goes to Mesc who had a career-high 56 DT points from the half back line.

Coney Island Warriors 16.11 (107) defeated Sin City Swamprats 12.4 (76)​

We were back home in round fourteen and, despite the loss in round 11, we were the form team of the competition with 5 wins/1 draw/1 loss in our previous 7 matches. We hosted the Sin Citizens, where 15 of us got around the match thread before an even game of qooty lasted for three quarters. We then put the proverbial foot down and, thanks to a 7 goal to 2 final quarter, found ourselves 31 points to the good and firth on the ladder by the time the final siren went off. Either one more win, or the teams directly below us f*cking up, would guarantee us finals qooty. Guess which one of these things happened?

FootyGuy13 led a dominant midfield with 29 disposals & 6 marks, ably supported by Elton Johns Wig (18 disposals/9 marks/1 goal), and in-form PhatBoy (20 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) and TheInjuryFactory (18 disposals/2 goals). BEEG slotted another four goals with crumbing forwards Ambrose Burnside (3 goals) & Snuffaluphagus (2 goals) damaging in the pockets.

East Side Phoenix 17.10 (112) defeated Coney Island Warriors 13.11 (89)​

We were in some sh*t hot form coming into our trip to the Eyrie to face the TFKA the Whoreks, who were also flying (pun absolutely intended). Six wins and a draw in our previous eight games, knowing that one more win from our last three games would guarantee Qeptember action. The week was the quietest of the season though for both teams, so to say we were well rested for the game would be an understatement.

We took a quarter to get going, trailing by 4 goals to 1 at the opening break. In true English form, the opposition captain told us to mind the gap and unfortunately that's what we did, finishing with a 23 point loss. Thankfully most of the teams directly below us also lost, allowing us to retain fifth place on the ladder.

The centreline of FootyGuy13 (20 disposals/4 marks/3 goals), Elton Johns Wig (22 disposals/9 marks) & A Swallow (22 disposals/5 marks) along with pantskyle (21 disposals/5 tackles) were again industrious. Yours truly beat the all-SFA ruck, BEEG & Ambrose Burnside kicked three goals each and Piggy Smalls did a good job of quieting the Phoenix full forward after being moved to full back, keeping him goalless after a first half Michelle on NaturalDisaster.

Coney Island Warriors 7.6 (48) lost to Baghdad Bombers 12.5 (77)​

We were still in a good position to make finals as we headed into the penultimate round of season 33, where the Babylonians came to visit. They're normally a rowdy bunch which led to our busiest match thread since round 11. Probably wasn't as busy as the Baghdadis were used to, but they had a million people locked up in Stalag 69 so swings and roundabouts.

As for the game, well the first quarter was good. We kicked three goals and restricted them to one. It was 70 minutes however before we kicked our fourth goal, around 10 minutes into the final quarter. The Bombers put kicked nine in that time, and ended up winning by 29 points. Our final score of 7.6 was the third lowest in Warrior history, a result which saw us drop from 5th to 7th on the ladder. The good news though was that with the Demons, Swamprats & Wonders also losing we were 1.5 games ahead of 9th spot on the ladder and, with one game remaining, had booked our spot in the top 8.

The standout Wazza on the fired was anthropomorphic robot monkey pantskyle whose 17 disposal/12 tackle/2 goal effort gave him BOG honours. BEEG was the leading goal kicker on the ground with three, despite being somewhat wasteful in front of goal. The back six of toxic NaturalDisaster Volbeat TubbsFarquhar Mofra & Freofalcon did well to keep the normally high-scoring Bomber forwards to 12 goals, while midfielders A Swallow (12 disposals/6 marks/5 tackles), FootyGuy13 (18 disposals/5 marks/1 goal), TheInjuryFactory (14 disposals/6 tackles) & Elton Johns Wig (15 disposals/3 marks) also tried hard.

A Swallow thought he was doing well in the third quarter of the season when he nabbed 16 out of a maximum 20 votes. Well his partner in crime on the wing FootyGuy13 said "hold my beer or whatever I drink idk" and raised him with 17 out of a possible 20 votes in the next block of four games to take a three vote lead on 37 votes with one home & away game plus finals remaining. Elton Johns Wig continued his good form to keep in touch with the leaders, in third place with 32 votes. RuckBob is one vote further back in fourth while pantskyle rounds out our top five in the penultimate leaderboard and technically can still take out an unprecedented third Frankston Rover Medal.
