Our turnovers trying to rebound out of D50 are just about the worst attribute of our game. We regularly butcher the ball in dangerous areas, never seem to have the run and overlap that the Pies did so well and outside of Gov there is no one in the D50 that I trust with ball in hand to make a good decision and hit a target. Duggo in flashes maybe when he’s kicking within himself. R50 is an absolute priority for drafting this year IMO. I tend to share your view with most of your posts but what are you seeing here that I’m not?
Is this because our guys butcher it or is it because our midfield doesn't provide options leaving defensive 50 .

Look at Collingwood they had so many guys running into space it was a raffle who to go too .

We end up kicking to a contest due to lack of free players

I don't think there's any chance we finish bottom 2. Richmond and North look like locks for those spots. Hawks, Saints and us will be the next three and I suspect it will be us that ends up 5th last.

North
R13 v West Coast (A)
R17 v Gold Coast (H)
R21 v Richmond (H)
R22 v West Coast (H)
R24 v Hawthorn (Tas)

Richmond
R14 v Hawthorn (H)
R21 v North (A)
R22 v Saints (A)
R23 v Hawthorn (H)
R24 v Gold Coast (H)

West Coast
R12 v St Kilda (H)
R13 v North (H)
R16 v Hawthorn (H)
R19 v St Kilda (A)
R21 v Gold Coast (H)
R22 v North (Tas)

Hawthorn
R12 v Adelaide (H)
R14 v Richmond (H)
R16 v West Coast (A)
R18 v Fremantle (Tas)
R23 v Richmond (H)
R24 v North (Tas)

They’re the winnable games for each of the bottom 4 teams

If we can win all 6 of those games we’d end up on 8 wins. More if we can cause an upset or two along the way like we did in the derby

I think we likely have North and Richmond covered and perhaps Hawthorn if we do win all those games, particularly Hawthorn at home

Suspect a lot would need to go right to catch St Kilda (or wrong for them)

Reality is we probably don’t win all those games so end up 16th, maybe 15th at best

“We need you to work on parts of your game Campbell”
“Like what”
“Running in a straight line for one”

I mean cmon. I believe that’s no more than buying what’s being sold. The club do push this narrative for sure but deep down we all know no one goes to the match committee table and is like “yeah he ran okay so I think we should select him”. A bit more to it than this. He can have running patterns that look like a combination of Mosart and Usain Bolt but until he learns how to get to contests and impact them it’s just hyperbole fluff

Who is Mosart?

Yeh nah.

The foot surgeon in Melbourne that they both consulted with is the best in his field which is why every club uses him for foot ankle injuries. There are just a few joint specialists that see most of the players of most of the teams. Shoulder - one. Knee - one. Little do you realise the amount of interstate players that fly into Melbourne for these consults/interventions.

The club physicians control the management of the player, but when surgery is an option these are the go to drs. The club dr is often in the surgery with that specialist and is then responsible for the player post op.

Surgeon is fine but seeking the same treatment and same opinions as those with no money is just leaving stones unturned.

Wouldn’t mind Daniel as a salary dump. He walks straight into the team on a HBF. In saying that, I’d still rather take Travaglia (who had 31 touches and 2 goals in the CTL) in the draft and Hopkins (27 touches and 7 R50s) in the MSD and build it from the ground up. There’s also some quality HBF free agents next year:

Ed Richards
Kane Farrell
Brandon Starcevich

I’ve also been very keen on Isaac Cumming but he’s just done a 6 week hammy first game back from a calf issue. May mean there’s less competition for him but the injury history is concerning.
Clearly you don’t watch us.

Starcevich is a low possession, lock down defender. He gets the lockdown role on the oppositions best medium or small forward.

He’s a safe kick, who plays within himself, definitely do not trust him to take or make an aggressive kick out of defence.

BC we don't have elite outside speed runners. We are pedestrian.

WTF are you talking about. Every AFL club has the same soft cap. Unfortunately, medical is still in the cap. We employ the best that the market provides for the rates available to pay. Now, we could bite the bullet and pay more for better, breaking the soft cap rules and suck up the fines that go with that. Some here have advocated for that for a while.

Not true at all. No soft cap exists for specialists. Nothing stopping us from sending players overseas for alternative opinions but ourselves you will find

I mean based on your logic if we are over the cap and McGovern needs to see a kidney specialist then he can’t go cos we can’t afford it? Is this how you think it works?

Hewetts injury management was a abomination. Not sure how we leave that one out. We have had a constant trickle of injuries still and key ones too.

Getting better is 1 thing, being good enough is another. Our injury list still isnt good enough, especially for the younger guys
If anyone hasn't, would really recommend going and reading up on the condition Hewett had given this keeps coming up. From everything I've seen it is not something they or anyone else caused or made worse, just a percentage of the population thing, and really the surgery is a decent outcome in the end given the problematic bone has literally been removed which also removed the risk of reoccurance.

The club managed it by the book and then sent him to surgery at the appropriate point when managing it didn't work. Seems fair enough that jumping straight to bone removal surgery isn't the first option. It sucks that he'll miss most of the year but better than him playing in pain/potentially missing huge chunks of games over his whole career.

He is Briz yes and Hough is playing that role perfectly for us at the moment but if getting Starcevich over as a FA freed Hough up to play more of an expanded role it’s something we should at least consider. I didn’t put it in the post you’re referring to but I’m certainly not comparing him to Lachie Whitfield.

Any chance of us getting Coleman after his ACL rehab is done?

Rumour on our board, from one of our legit insiders, is that we're making a play for Moyle.
Any team that can offer him regular games would be crazy not to make a play for him. The Crows should be first in line.

Probably our gassed midfield is a part of it but other than Gov there’s no one that can slice a game open by hitting a difficult kick regularly. It’s easier to see in person at Optus (as opposed to TV) where there’s an early option with a difficult kick. Duggo was trying it at the start of the year but soon realised he needs to play within himself to not make the turnover. Harley hit a beautiful one to Cripps on the weekend but we need that coming out of defence.

Maric is a good kick

You can probably get Jaxon Prior for free at the end of the season.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see McKenna pack it in either.

If Noah Long provides a MSD opportunity (29th May), who should we pick?
Barring monumental upsets in both of the next two weeks we will have pick 3 in the MSD. Upside is likely to be the biggest consideration but with our expected delistings positional need is hopefully also considered. I still think in order we should take if available:
  1. Ben Hopkins 18 190cm Dandenong HBF
  2. Noah Howes 18 196cm Sth Adelaide KPF
  3. Will McLachlan 19 185cm Geelong HFF
I expect Noah Howes to be taken by one of North or Richmond ahead of us but he could be available. Other players possibly in the conversation are:
  1. Wil Patton 19 192cm West Adelaide HBF
  2. Jacob Blight 22 196cm Peel KPD
  3. Jasper Scaife 19 197cm West Perth KPF
  4. Joe Pike 19 204cm Geelong Ruck
  5. Jack Hutchinson 22 190cm C’Wood HFF
There’s also a number of mids and mid/fwds that went undrafted last year that are a chance to be selected by other teams (and us if we’re set on taking a mid):

Tarkyn O’Leary 18 178cm Sandringham
Kade De La Rue 18 183cm Dandenong
Dayten Uerata 18 185cm Bendigo
Oskar Smartt 18 180cm Bendigo

In saying all this my opinion counts for SFA and we’ll probably take Trey Ruscoe.

Is that not what we did with Yeo and McGovern in the offseason, right before they’ve found AA form again?

Or is that an example of nothing changing at our club (apart from the CEO, list manager, high performance manager…)

Yeah i have Give him a chance. Couldn't be any worse than some who are gifted games. At least he has nouse, ticker and is an inside mid. Let him develop with Reid ginbey and co.
Growth together
It makes no sense to pick someone who isn’t knocking down the door at wafl level. Chesser was better in the afl than hall was in the wafl on the weekend. Hall behind trew and culley.

Hobbs who made it well known he didn’t want to leave Vic (he would have requested a trade back by now)
