That is some of the biggest crap I have ever read.

Garlett had opportunities that most people dream of and pissed them all up against the wall. It has nothing to do with his up bringing or larger issues in society, the bloke is just a loser and jail will probably save him from either an OD or killing someone. He has had so many people try and reach out and help him, not just Hawthorn, but those in the WAFL and he didn't care. So regardless of what his ancestry is the bloke is a loser and deserves nobodies sympathy.

bollocks. the kid is probably a dickhead and has certainly earnt his time in jail, but no one elects to be a dropkick by their own choosing. people are shaped by their upbringing and genetics. you can argue in what amounts, but either way there's a reason to feel sympathy for anyone. it doesn't mean you're excusing them of anything. 18 or so years of growing up tough, surrounded by negative role models isn't going to be undone by a few weeks living with Luke Hodge.

He didn't spend 18 years growing up tough, he was inside football clubs at 15 where they were trying to help him but he wanted none of it. He made his life choice and has to live with it, trying to make excuses for him is just ignoring the fact he didn't want to do the hard yards to make a better life because drugs and partying were more fun.

Grew up povo, homeless half the time, s**t family, no role models, drugs/alcohol, probably surrounded violence (tends to go with alcoholism), looks like his mates are a bunch of ********s as well.

AFL demands a hell of a lot from people- who are pretty much kids when they start. He wasn't capable of taking his opportunities. It's a sad story. No one actually wants to end up in jail and give up a million dollar career. People tried, they failed. Hopefully he comes out rehabilitated but really that's not going to happen is it.

Dont know where you're getting your facts from, had a pretty stable family life and lived in a decent neigbourhood. Where are you getting that s**t from?

He is a bloody talented footballer. He is still only 23 so if he gets out soon, has his personal life in order and can dominate WAFL for a year he'd be a great shot at a rookie spot.

A lot will depend on how his time in prison has affected him, so many unknowns. Anyone can turn their lives around, just depends if he wants to or not.
