I know this is a "soft factor" that is intangible and therefore hard to analyse, but I genuinely think the crowd has a massive effect on some of these players in the sense that they when an ultra-partisan opposition crowd in a big final brings a roaring atmosphere and creates a cauldron-like intensity to the game, they freeze under the spotlight. They feel like heat of the performing in front of loud, frothing-at-the-mouth people who are all united in desiring them to screw up, and so all they can think about is how scared they are to fail.

I could practically hear Henry and Kolo's panicky racing hearts and "oh shit I hope the ball doesn't go near me" inner monologues through the television.

2nd and 3rd quarters told the story. We dominated the second and didn't capitalise. They dominated the third and did. Finals can be a game of moments and I felt when ours presented themselves, we mostly mucked it up. Hawkins missing, Kolo missing when a goal would have lifted spirits. Giving away a goal in the dying stages of the 2nd after finally getting one of our own just before. Parfitt passing to Ablett rather than having a set shot just before a siren. Mitch doing the same. We weren’t belted off the park and we had good intensity from the start but we just didn’t walk in whenever the door was open.

Collingwood or West Coast next week is a real chance of straight sets. Likely Richmond in a Prelim... not confident. Bloody flat after that. Thought we were a really good chance pre-match.

Yeah this 1000000%. Flat. Could have had it in the bag and just....fluffed it instead.

He lost us the game with sticking Atkins and Dalhaus in the middle. I knew before the ball was bounced they were gonna beat us in the clearances when it mattered most.

Surely that would be the midfield coach, Knights.

One positive was Hendo doesn't look finished.

Perhaps both come in. Clark needs to come in for either Kolo or Henry. Taylor is done though he battled manfully tonight. Rohan and Miers absolute failures. Completely ineffectual. I'd even consider bringing DeKoning in. He won't go any worse.

I think it is the other way around tbh. We red line the **** out of the H&A as we are well managed and then just don't have enough genuinely top class players to lift it up a gear in finals. Scott knows it too, hence some of the dumb arse moves he has pulled in finals to try and pull a rabbit out of the hat. This year the team was settled and just not good enough. The people setting the metrics for Scott have it wrong. Costa out and Carter in is when the rot started.

Port completely demolished us from half time. Clearly the far better team. We got a couple of arsey goals late, which made the score line seem respectable, and they were a bit unlucky going forward themselves. The whole team fell apart. It wasn't just a Hawkins issue.

A bit unlucky themselves? Wtf. They couldn’t miss. 17 scoring shots to 13. We won pretty much every stat.
