Yes id say it would add to small talent although who knows really what Ablett will bring or for how long he will bring it. And it will not solve our KPF issues.. so a continuation of us adding mature Pnp and reducing our load from the draft.

Draft quantity likely stays high. Maybe we get a pick for Mots, spin it into a first rounder somehow and can still get my boy (tm) Wooller. Three goals and in the bests again this week, I'm worried about how early he'll get taken.

As far as I know people at the club are quite happy with Buzza's rate of improvement and there is a fair chance he will get a senior game at some point this year. That's a good sign, cause as we all know kpf's take a long time to develop. Hopefully we can make a player out of him.

Having finally watched the VFL game V Footscray - Id like to keep pumping games into both Buzza and Sav. They are still raw and learning but there is potential there and improvement with Buzza on what ive seen year on year. Hipwood they aint, but if we can get the same from them over the next 18 months that Hawkins delivered in his first 3 years at the club... id take that.

Im also not suggesting that either project like Hawkins or Hipwood - but its what we have and we have to persevere and back them in. Its gonna take time, s let the development happen. And if that means getting them in and back out of the AFL side then so be it. I still cant see either getting a go this year - maybe Buzza for a 2 game tour like Oconnor got to shoe him how far he still has to go - but its worth the shot at some point I guess.

How could Collingwood afford anyone, they have bought so many players in on big money? And flag contenders they ain't. Would dogs have much salary cap room?

Geelong is the closest to Tasmania and with his brother here it would have to be his preferred team. But we have to give something big up for it to happen. And no doubt tony cockstain would be a nightmare to deal with.

I personally want us to still have an earlier pick to use at the draft, while I like players coming in from other clubs I also like a bit of balance and still some players coming in from the draft (and not just really late picks). You look at last years balance which I really liked, we got Tuohy in to fill a specific role and he's been fantastic, but then we also used an earlier pick at the draft to get Brandan Parfitt who has shown very good signs already.

Something like this could happen:
- Use 2nd Rounder for Kade Kolo.
- Use 2nd Rounder for Devon Smith.
- Use 3rd Rounder for Ablett.
- Get an early 2nd round pick in for Motlop as compensation if he leaves under free agency?

I don't expect the Suns or Giants to give up talent like Kade Kolo and Devon Smith for only 2nd round picks though. I also don't expect Motlop to leave so this is all hypothetical.

I think Devon Smith would be worth only a second rounder (albeit a high one), but yeah I can't see the Suns letting Kade Kolo go for anything less than a 1st rounder, and maybe a sweetener on top of that. Personally, I'd be happy to trade a future 1st rounder for Kade Kolo, but I think we'd be overpaying if we traded a 1st for Smith, whom I rate, but not for a pick that high. No doubt others would be happy to part with a 1st rounder for Smith though.. Ablett for a 3rd is bang on I reckon.

Other than a father son KPF we haven't developed one at all for 10 years.
I wouldn't be relying on buzza or rat at all. I'd be stocking up right now.
If we have too many 'good' KPF it's not very difficult to trade them.

Would love to know who we have that can roll through in Hawkins absence
Please don't say Henderson and Taylor.

Makes no sense. Wants to be closer to Tasmania but is happy to go to Sydney? Not buying it. 1 hour plane travel time makes no difference.
Same probably goes for Geelong. Have to drive up to Tulla for an hour before catching a flight to tassie.

A bit like Mitchell to WCoast, but for a reasonable draft pick e.g. second rounder (he is about 3 years younger).

Another scenario is we trade our Kolo to Suns to shore up their boy. They get what they desperately need (a big body cool headed defender). I would do it for a first rounder (I've been told I am dreaming before this - so get stuck in again if you feel so), but if Kade is getting edgy there is more chance now.

The only way I could see those multi player inbound would be if they changed the FA rules... geelong do seem sometimes to fall over themselves when good players make it known they would like to come here. The obvious brother link would be even more obvious to Scott id have thought , the way he and his brother were united at Brisbane. But surely after last year , a KK type would not be our highest priority. Suns would dig their heels in one would think over KK..... and Im not sure for value he is worth a R1 at this stage..is he really playing much better than a Stewart type. Be a good add but expensive.

Your logic is sound although Id not say it as strong as you have.

My issue with using just this approach is it relies on a player being available. Again , if the fa rules do change it would be a good tactical approach to look at 4 years FA for some players before they have really bloomed and are under paid , and there would be far more available. Id have thought most youngish KPF that show form early would very quickly get well remunerated for the same reasons that draft picks have to usually be early a low availability of quality KPF. So most FA KPF will be 8-10 year FA's in the system.

On trade... it would have to be an expensive exercise id have thought. I wonder if we look at the stats.. how often do KPF trade compare to other types of players. I guess a McCartin or 2MP are all possible , depending on what we are willing to cough up.

Agree with all that. Sure back them and support them... but Id still look at options and continue to try to add talent. The best player will push thru and if its one of them great. If not then we did the right thing in adding talent.
Just a question, just what sort of numbers that Hawkins did in 07,08,09 would you say they should be producing? Pretty sure Hawk was playing footy in Y1 and a regular by Y3. If they could match Hawkins , Id certainly be happy with that.

yep that would start to really irk especially as we play more of the bigger games , and probably finals etc. Id have to admit..id probably look at my options as well. The days of Robbie Flower are gone..players are very tactically aware and they will not be spending years at clubs they see as cellar dweller types.

I think it was Pure recently that made the point , that trading for GA would involve picks because none of our players would want to go there. The point is , this is not an american spot where players can just be shipped off to another club... sure JK may like to play with his brother , but he also may not really want to swap out of the GFC for GCS. If a player is lacking opportunity , but when they are playing regular best 22 and can see they will be for several years , id say it would have to be a huge offer to move him. Taylor too would have to want out.

Agree both players would have to want the trade for whatever reason. Taylor family and coaching chances post footy, Our Kolo a much fatter pay packet and a brother. Who knows? Speculation is just another form of daydreaming.
We should list all scenarios as they appear and then after trade season see how we went!!
