... not too long ago in fact, where North would go into a final quarter five goals down and concede the first and it would take skyhooks powered by Andre the Giant to be able to lift the heads of the players in blue and white.

And not too long before that it didn't matter what position we were in and we could still win..

I reckon there's probably only two or three blokes running around at the moment that remember THAT feeling.

League-wide?

Ha.

In truth, tonight was quite simple. We were outclassed by one of the best at their fortress.

North two years ago would have turned into kittens and that would have been a blowout.

You could see that moment where they thought they had a sniff and I reckon most of us perked up halfway through that last quarter. If Nahas (no slight on his game, he is stepping up) nailed one of those goals, who knows? It was even more reachable.

The first three quarters were tripe but isn't it nice, in a way, to see we can serve up tripe and still be those few strokes of luck from winning? The Collingwood game was the same.

Still a lot of season to go, a lot of time to build that consistent run.

I just want the the 17 clubs arses badly and go on to win the 2014 premiership. 15 years is way too long.

The only thing that prevented us from being 10 goals down after three quarters was the fact Geelong were operating at about 60% capacity and couldn't kick straight.

God the first half was awful. Yeah Geelong are great and it's hard winning down there blah blah blah. But it looked like we deliberately decided to concede all possession through the midfield and only regain the ball by hoping they'd cough it up going forward so we could build from the backline. The intensity was sub-par for a practise match and the structures all over the ground looked abysmal (As it normally does when you can't get the ball from the opposition.) They were scoring at will and a 70+ hammering was short odds. A pathetic half of football.

Then we lost by 20 points. Yeah Geelong had a 6 day break coming back from Perth blah blah blah. But we were the better team and almost everything that was so bad about the first half was better. Did it matter? Not really, we still lost and never looked like winning. And I was hoping that this year we'd be better than that. But we're not. So as disappointing as that was, I think I can live with this one and look forward.

Nahas had two players on in front of goal...both had arms up waving.

One of his few mistakes, plus the timing was so critical, so it really stood out.

It's not good enough, and as Brad said in the press conference, only "loser clubs" walk away from a game like that at all pleased.

But as supporters it's reasonable to remember - when some people say there's been no progress - that it wasn't long ago we suffered through absolute pastings from a number of teams.

Yes I agree...he and LT were only goers down there.

Basti's one handed effort in front of goal as well in that last Q.

You could go on re the last Q, but its bullshit that we have to find ourselves coming home with wet sails...same as Dons/Pies/GC and last night...
