Universal Love Princes Park Update

I think, Southby is actually wanting to stop this argument and just get answers about what he is keen about, marching for our ground, based on his comment 'Thank you for all the positive responses regarding our home ground'. Guys just keep it peaceful. You are not forced to march, but I suggest you do and show support to Southby for all the time he is putting in. If you don't like it leave this thread or show your alternative to getting games at our beloved ground.

'If you don't like it leave this thread'.

Um for a '15yo newbie' you certainly are throwing your authority around.

This thread is open for discussion for all.

Couldn't have said it any better thanks for your support. When the time is right all will be revealed. See you in February
Ps. Yes you can ask questions
I've asked a couple...I'm interested in your answers.

Who mentioned that people might be arrested if they march?
What makes you think that Etihad will be demolished and replaced?

southby & Dadadadaaaaaa please stop quoting each other & backing up each other as if you don't know one another.

You are either one & the same or are related in some way.

No problem at all with your passion about getting games back at Princes Park.
It's obvious you are both pushing the same agenda.

Just play nice and respond accordingly in a positive manner without being condescending towards others.

Firstly to everyone out there I apologize for my comments last night. I just felt very wound up that no one is showing Southby support. I do not know Southby and I don't know why he replies to my messages. I just thought his comments were very motivating. It is clear you want answers to questions that he does not know the answer to, so to make it up I want you all to get your questions about the march/protest ready today and tonight after school I will give detailed answers to them. I would love to see the march go ahead, not just for the ground, but because it will be a chance for us unite together as Carlton. I know you are all keen Carlton fans and I will start by answering the one about an arrest. There was a comment at the start of page 16 that said this:

Rules of protests:
  1. Does it come with a complementary BBQ and/or alcoholic beverages?
  2. Will I get on telly?
  3. Am I unlikely to be arrested?
  4. Will there be many attractive people there?
I think that is what Southby was referring to.

Also I think we can all see that Southby is one of those people that says what he THINKS will happen, not what has been publicly said that has evidence behind it. Still I will be happy to prove his points right.
By the way Footy Geek if there shouldn't be a march, what do you think we should do?

The numbers are quite obvious, if it costs the AFL over a billion dollars to build an alternative stadium to replace the unsavory Etihad Stadium, a fraction of that cost could be better spent in on upgrading Carlton's facilities. Haven't you read the reports?

For someone wanting to get this up and for someone wanting to garner support, you're doing a very poor job of it, I'm sorry to say.

If you can't get through to fellow supporters, you'll have little hope getting through to the club/AFL/councils/residents etc etc.

It's a great idea in theory, however I think you may want to fight a few smaller battles first to win the war.
  • The VFL played a final there on the weekend, so hit them up to help bring the ground back to VFL level- a premium VFL venue.
  • The council, without their support, this won't even get off the ground, the venue has to serve other purposes not just a football ground.
  • If stage 1 and 2 get going then work on it to become a boutique stadium
  • The AFL alone will not support this, as then they will have every other club knocking on their door
  • Look at Geelong, council, state and AFL money, Moorabbin is heading in the same direction, the ground has been a dump since the Saints left now they are going to throw money at it to get it back up and running for VFL and local comps.
Start small and make it grow

If you're going to approach the AFL or even the CFC in regards to this matter, you have to have the answers and not just some questions. :)

southby wants support but won't even go 'out of his way' to answer the questions fellow supporters care to put up.

He's no leader of mine.........but I'll give him the chance to change that. Over to you southby.

As an aside but related to the use of PP, does anyone know if the Carlton Cafe is licensed? Could be good to rig it up with a proper big screen and throw it open for interstate games and serve up beers etc like the old days when the social club had the foxtel hook up. Would rather rock up there and put money back into the club than do it at the pub.

I agree that the club headquarters could become a hub for many things Carlton.

What you're suggesting makes perfect sense on face value.
There may be reasons for that not coming.....including council restrictions, but the idea has value.

Half the AFL pay, half Carlton, surly the AFL and Carlton have 50 million each to spend, as the government obiously won't help us out.

By the way http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...haw-slams-etihad-stadium-deal-20150319-1m2urf. James Bryashaw labeling Etihad stadium the worst deal in history and wanting the AFL to buy the stadium and invest in a new stadium.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-12/etihad-soon-to-be-bulldozed. Lord mayor of Melbourne says Etihad stadium will be demolished in 30 years.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-03-25/afls-boutique-push in 2013 Andrew Demetriou says Punt Road or Princes Park could replace Etihad.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-02-29/blues-aim-to-build-on-success-of-footys-ikon-park-return. It clearly states Carlton would be in a good position for funding from the AFL because they are prepared $2.5 Billion dollars on media rights money.

Finally Trigg says that AFL matches won't be played at the ground, based on his view. As Southby said about the community venue ect, Trigg says the ground is dead and will be opening it up to the community (which means demolishing stands). So the AFL do have an interest in demolishing Docklands and playing matches at the ground. Except our CEO doesn't.

Isn't Carlton already in debt? Where do all these millions come from?

It's a lot of "people says" regarding Etihad....but nothing is actually planned. How is that different to Trigg's 'view'? It's just varying people's opinions.

There's no facts or plans here that I can see.

Thank you all positive responses I have received in our march to princes park. Dadadadadaaaaa has already provided strong evidence of what I have been talking about. The detracting minority need to actually go back, read and comprehend my first 2 statements in full. I am not a person to repeat my self. I shall now try to make the picture a little clearer for some of you doubting Thomases. If we start with the premises that Etihad Stadium has not lived up to the AFL's own expectations then that opens the door for re considering playing at Carlton. The maths in simple. I would cost about 1 billion dollars to demolish Etihad Stadium it would also cost about 1 billion dollars to build another ground in a suitable location. For a fraction of than cost say 50 million dollars stand could be built at the Carlton ground to bring it up to AFL standered. If Carlton benefactors and sponsors chipped in half of this I am sure the AFL would come up with the balance. Other teams would be able to play at Carlton's venue as has happened previously as well as alloting Carlton's several home games each year. This maximize our revenue and reduce our debt in the long term. I will not be answering any more questions as I will be too busy amongst other things organizing the initial stages of the rally. Suffice you given further details in the due course. You are either with me or not. Regards Southby
