An early election is Malcolm Turnbull’s only real option

Still smarting from the Australian public’s rejection of his 2014 austerity budget, Mr Abbott and his boosters in the media have begun to argue that the true test of economic leadership – that which Mr Turnbull claimed to have when he challenged Mr Abbott – would be to cut budget spending as hard as his predecessor had tried to do.

Why would Turnbull cut hard when all reports today have been about the unexpected revenue windfall. If Turnbull can buy up some votes while still leaving enough money to pay down debt, that would be the wisest course. Cutting hard and in an unpopular way, when it's not needed, just to show 'leadership' would actually show you up to be a fecking moron.

The two party preferred have been consistent over recent polls.

If the Coalition loses the Victorian state election, then the knives will be sharpened for Malcolm Turnbull's removal as PM. And it will give Tony Abbott the chance to come back as leader of the Liberals. Expect to see Abbott v Turnbull 3 happening by April/May 2019.

If the Coalition does well in the bi-elections, it will take a poor election result in Victoria to unseat Turdbull. You’re naive if you can’t see the ALP winning the Victorian election!

5 minutes after the By-Election results not going his way he is at Government House ;)

Any other PM in previous year's would've given Michealia Cash her marching orders as Jobs Minister by now. The longer Cash stays in her portfolio and continues to stuff things up, the greater the chance Bill Shorten has of getting the keys to the Lodge. Malcolm Turnbull has no choice now but to make a major cabinet reshuffle.

MORNING POST Editorial

"A look inside the Liberal Party" ( a long post)

Our man from Havana gives a look at the current state of the Liberal Party and its upcoming Election Campaign Strategy and a little back ground on Turnbull and others

The one thing Tony Abbott could be relied upon was to make a decision and stick to it right or wrong and mostly wrong . Abbott could never be accused of being confused by facts.

Despite what ever the evidence was , or how it was delivered. All Peta Credlin had to do was shake her head and Abbott would go his (her) own way .

It didn't matter what qualified Treasury , Defence or Trade Officials were saying at presentations of briefings . Abbott would start a conversation with Credlin on a unrelated subject and talk over them as if the Officials were not present . It was the height of disrespect and bad manners says our man who himself had been subjected to Abbott's arrogant behavior.

Turnbull on the other hand is the complete opposite . At almost every meeting or briefing Turnbull attends with his mind made up and at the end of the presentation he changes his mind . These days Turnbull is called "Turnstile" by his Backbench as he can never make up his mind and seems horrified that some Public Servants still give frank and fearless advice . Turnbulls ideas on the Public Service is it should be an arm of the Liberal Party just like the AFP are .

Many a time Turnbull is head to be mumbling I'll have to discuss or run this part Lucy or Sally.

Recently Treasury Officials gave a number of detailed briefings on a number of Labor Party policies , this included changes to Negative Gearing , Share Imputation Dividend payments . Without praising the Labor Party policies the Treasury says it makes sound economic sense to start reigning in free handouts to a large section of the Australian population .

Treasury also advised that large amounts of "Corporate Welfare" to the Mining Industry should also be reviewed ( Diesel Fuel Rebate) . Treasury says it makes no sense that Mining Companies earning huge profits should receive free Government money.

Both Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison are against sound economic policy and dispute the arguments put up by the Treasury about maintaining a sound revenue base and reigning in unwanted handouts and spending . Treasury have questioned the soundness of the policy of income tax cuts to Multi National Corporations , saying it will have a huge impact on Government revenues.

Its also reported Treasury is very concerned about the out of control spending of the Liberal Government

Scott Morrison advocates the following , a phased in rise of the GST from 10% to 12% to 15% . A sell off of the ABC as suggested by Mitch Fifield , who argues the Federal Government does not need to be in the Television production business . This discussion paper ( which has been taken into cabinet) includes a sell off of all the ABC ( AM and FM) radio channels excepting Radio National and the Parliamentary News Network and retaining ABC 24 Television News , the rest can be sold off to the highest bidder .

Morrison also wants to heavily invest in reverse mortgages where elderly couples borrow from the Commonwealth to fund their retirements. Once this principal amount is exhausted any pension paid will be refundable to the Government and after these people decease the Commonwealth will sell the home thus recouping their investment. Morrison and Turnbull think this is sound policy. As they think it will go a long way into solving the housing shortage.

Petrol excise increases have also been discussed as have further increases to cigarettes and alcohol.

Other ideas revolved increasing the minimum hours worked each week by Australians from 38 hours per week to 40 hours per week on the grounds of increased productivity and and combating the effect of the increasing aging population . This " Fair Days Work" policy would be first visited on the Federal Public Service as its Union membership is at a all time low . Other changes relate to overtime payments being reduced to time and one half for all extra hours worked , all employment conditions are on the table according to Scott Morrison

The Minimum wage is another matter up for review as are all Centrelink payments being rolled into one payment except for the Newstart Allowance . The privatization of Centrelink is also high on the Liberal Governments reform agenda.

Career Treasury Officials have described these radical policies as courageous to say the least

But the Liberals have to win the election first and win it well to implement this right wing agenda .

To achieve this, the Liberals have taken a number of things for granted , they include the following :-

1. The Media will back the Liberals 100% during the Election campaign , Newspoll will be adjusted to reflect positive Liberal results as will other polls
2. The Liberals though their party polling know they will receive more than 60% of the Pensioner and Self Funded Retirees vote as they will be swayed by the scare campaign that will mounted against the Labor Party.
3. The Liberal will not enter into any debate with the Labor Party about policy , they will play a campaign of personality assassination which will be aided by the media , Bill Shorten will be their main target, all the Liberals will do is play the man.
4. Its been said that Turnbull ( net worth Two Hundred Million Dollars ) will tip in up to Two Million Dollars of his own money as donations to the Liberal Party which will result in the further donations of One Hundred Thousands Dollars to 20 Backbenchers who are in danger of losing their seats.
5. Liberal Election Policies will be light on detail as they will be technically unfunded , the Liberal Party line will be to run a campaign "Standing on their record" the One Million jobs created figure will be used as the linchpin of their campaign , despite the job figures being a manufactured ones
