Letter from the President: Brand research project​

President Dave Barham provides an update on the club's brand research project.

To all our Fans and Members,

The Essendon Football Club has a proud history as one of the oldest clubs in the AFL and we have a strong recognisable brand.

We are conducting a preliminary research project which centres around the Essendon brand and its elements.

The research project is in its early phase. Members and supporters have been and will continue to be canvassed as part of this process, in addition to the engagement of multiple Essendon Football Club stakeholders.

We have a proud history of more than 150 years and a deep connection to our members and supporters. This is and will always be respected and embraced.

There is no immediate action to change the club logo or any elements of the club brand. This is a longer-term project with significant work to be completed.

We proudly recognise that our future legacy begins with our proud history.

We will always be called the Bombers.

Ive never had a probelm with the current one, but gees it has some style about it.

Stlye like Geelongs upgraded logo, making themselves look much more professional.

Yeah, i like that too. It looks like a badge/logo, and has the plane pointing UP, as well as the bomb blast blood red destroying everything....as it should be doing.

Trolling is such a finite word. I would use the term "promotional aid" for the upcoming season's rivalry match.

We've already got the "They Know We're Waiting" pomotional aid. But hey, it couldn't hurt.

You can never have enough promotional aids. Just in case they find a way to not get irked by one of them.

One of the best things about football is rivalry matches. I look at trolling like someone just constantly angling for trouble, constantly stirring and just being overall facetious.

But in the week of a rivalry match, it's custom to get out there and promote the duel. *The clubs do it, the AFL does, so why not the fans?*

Anyway, that's my excuse lol.

Honestly, Essendon fans are the only good ones of the successful Vic teams (Carlton, Cwood, Essendon, Hawthorn). There are of course always a few really cool people from the other teams.

if you look at the essendon website we have shirts that are bagging collingwood and carlton

maybe we need more artistic shirts with air force planes attacking a flock of magpies or a bunch of.... blue... stuff

But I agree, you need more destructive fearsome promotional imagery. The whole "do the math" thing seems a bit nerdy. Instead, you need to send clear badass imagery...as this thread has alluded to.

it needs improvement. but i dunno about the worst. i hate the port fist w/lightning bolt. it's face-covering bad.


the GC lifesaver dude will be up there with the worst.
all the others are pretty standard fare.

i dont mind freos logo seeing as the person who made it had to follow such a bad criteria, the GC logo also had a bad criteria but i dont think thats a good enough excuse for what they came up with.

as for our logo. i think the plane looks cool but doesnt look enough like a bomber. its definetly not the worst though
